Caught in the moment, just following orders.

Not all Germans were Nazis. Those who weren't suffered by the regime. The entire world ultimately still bears the scars of the evil they forced upon the world. Those who say "I got caught up in the moment" last Wednesday, have no defense for the evil they thrusted upon this country and the world.
“I love America, I love the people, I didn’t hurt anyone and I didn’t cause any damage in the Chamber. I got caught up in the moment and when I saw the door to to the Chamber open, I walked in, hopped down, and sat on the chair. I said my peace then I helped a gentlemen get to safety that was injured then left.

While in the Chamber I told the other protesters that this is a sacred place and not to not do any damage. Some of them wanted to trash the place and steal stuff but I told them not to and to leave everything in it’s place. We’re still on sacred ground.

And sincerely apologize to the American people. I recognize my actions that have brought shame upon myself, my family, my friends, and my beautiful country. In the moment I thought I was doing the right thing. I realize now that my actions were in appropriate and I beg for forgiveness from America and my home state of Idaho.

My intention wasn’t to put a stain on our great Country’s Democratic process.”
Sorry, Josiah, you can't undo what you and thousands of other people did to our nation. You can be sorry, but I cannot forgive you until you and the people who did this are held to account. I'm sorry is a little too little and a lot too late after the hellacious 4 years we have been through. The damage, much like the damage of World War 2, is done. The bell cannot be unrung.

When Arnold spoke of the aftermath of Nazi Germany, it was a gut punch. I had family who was among that group. I never met them, and they are not spoken of in my family. I know very little about them.

My 4 grandparents were born in Germany. To the best of my knowledge, they came to the USA before the war. I can only definitely confirm that my grandparents on my mother's side came over in the teens. Those scars run deeper than Arnold speaks of. It became generational here on our shores as well. I'm a second-generation American and he's right about the damage done to families.

Trust me. Not all Americans were part of the deadly violence, but like post-WW2 Germany, we will suffer.

That said, we must hold people accountable before we can heal and reunite. Nixon being pardoned may have had a short term healing, but we are suffering the damage of that action. The people involved, the people who incited this need to be held to account.

Accountability is not vengeance.
