It's a Miracle!
Author: BobR    Date: 11/30/2022 13:36:41

When the clock struck midnight on Thursday, after a full day of turkey feasting, the 2022 Christmas season officially began. All the "lesser" fall holidays are in the rear-view mirror as we forge headlong into the season of conspicuous consumption. Political ads are replaced with ads showing people giving loved ones cars as a gift, something that can only happen in commercials.

It's the season of miracles, where legends of virgin births and lanterns burning for 8 days with one day's worth of oil are believed to have occurred (by their respective religious adherents). In the modern world, we don't really see miracles any more...

... or do we?

Yesterday, the Senate (yes, the Senate) passed a same-sex marriage protection bill, on a 61-48 vote . Twelve Republicans joined the Democrats to ensure passage. It's not 100% of what progressives wanted, but it will do the job. Fucker Carlson is likely not very happy.

Speaking of the Senate, early voting began in the GA runoff election between incumbent Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Herschel Walker (R-TX). The turnout has been record-breaking, with more than a quarter-million people voting on the first day:
“Just…WOW! GA voters, facilitated through the hard work of county election & poll workers, have shattered the old Early Vote turnout, with 300,438 Georgians casting their votes today,” said top Georgia elections official Gabriel Sterling in a Twitter update.

The previous record for an early voting day was around 233,000, a spokesperson for Georgia’s secretary of state told The Hill.

[...]

Georgia saw record voter turnout throughout November’s midterm election and has been seeing similarly staggering figures since the runoff’s early voting period started over the weekend.

More Georgians voted on Sunday than on any Sunday in the 2021 Senate runoff — or in the 2018, 2020 and 2022 general elections, a spokesperson for the Georgia secretary of state confirmed to The Hill on Monday.

How Walker can even run for a Senate seat from GA is under question, since new evidence shows he may never have lived in the state (legally):
According to The Daily Beast, Walker has been living in Texas for decades. He has said, however, that he has maintained residence in Atlanta for over a decade.

It turns out that the residency he claims to have isn’t actually his. According to Fulton County tax and property records, Walker’s wife, Julie Blanchard, is the sole owner of the residence. Rental income data also shows that Blanchard collected anywhere between $15,000 to $50,000 from the home.

Walker deemed Blanchard’s Georgia home as his when he first announced his senatorial bid last August.

[...]

This information suggests that Walker may have never lived in the Atlanta residence. He certainly did not live at the home before his campaign. It appears as though the residence was only used as a means of passive income.

In an unrelated Christmas miracle, the head of the Oath Keepers and several other senior officers within the group will be going to jail for a very long time for their role in the Jan 06 insurrection. Here's hoping others who goosed this gross stain on our Democracy into existence face similar fates.

That would certainly be a miracle - Christmas or not.
