Holiday Musings

It's just a few more days until Christmas. I may have missed it, but it appears the RWers have given up on the fake "War on Christmas" trope. Maybe it's because of TFG and his NFTs and the Jan 06 committee and Hunter Biden's laptop have taken all the news cycles. There's also the realization that most of the "Christmas" traditions (like the trees, Santa, mistletoe, even the date) are pagan in origin. Hell - the name "Yule" is being used right there in the open - didn't anyone look into it to see what that meant?

We (along with a large portion of the country) are looking at a massive storm with various forms of frozen precipitation in the next 24-72 hours (the midwest has already been blanketed), followed by a bitterly cold temp drop. I hope the homeless (people and animals) can find shelter and warmth. It won't be a white Christmas here, but will certainly be icey.

Getting back to the Jan 06 committee, they've recommended TFG be indicted for his crimes against the country and the Constitution. While actual indicments would have been a good Christmas present, I'll take the recommendations as a stocking stuffer (also pagan).

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Starting tomorrow, the days start getting longer again. It starts off slowly then builds to the Vernal Equinox when the rate of change is the fastest, and then starts slowing again as we approach the summer solstice. It's a sine wave, essentially, one that's been occurring for eons, since long before man first walked upright.

The World Cup is over, American football is in the home stretch, and hockey is right in the middle of the season, as is basketball. It's time for indoor activities and winter sports. The short days and cold weather put me in a hibernation mood - larding up and laying down. Sports? I'll watch them from the comfort of my couch, thankyouverymuch.

Anyhoo - I hope that you all enjoy your winter holiday, whichever one you celebrate, and stay warm, safe, and happy through the new year.
