It's the first week of the new Republican-led House, and what have they queued up? Essentially, a laundry list of pet Republican projects, that are largely symbolic, since they aren't going to go anywhere. Let's
have a look at some of them:
H.R. 23 - Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act: Revokes the increased budget for the IRS put in place by the Inflation Reduction Act
H.R. 27 - Prosecutors Need to Prosecute Act: The title alone tells you what THIS is.
H. Con. Res. 5 - Expressing support for the Nation’s law enforcement agencies and condemning any efforts to defund or dismantle law enforcement agencies: ditto
H.R. 26 - Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act: ditto
H. Con. Res. 3 - Expressing the sense of Congress condemning the recent attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches: ditto
H.R. 7 - No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2023: ditto (fyi: federal law already prohibits taxpayer funds from paying for abortions).
There are also a couple anti-China bills ("H. Res. 11 -
Establishing the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party" and "H.R. 22 -
Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act"). There are also a couple of anti-immigrant bills ("H.R. 29 -
Border Safety and Security Act of 2023" and "H.R. 28 -
Illegal Alien NICS Alert Act").
All of these have one thing in common: They address non-existent "problems", and are red meat for their conservative base. When these get shot down by Dems, they will be used in campaign adds to target Dems as "open-border child-killing communist-coddling tax-bloated libruls" who don't care about traditional American values.
In other words - it's business-as-usual for these lying venal anti-government power-mongering reactionaries who don't care about Americans.
Priorities, people!
