I can't write about it today.

I have not and will not give up, but today, please forgive me, I can't.

Actually posting this on Monday eve - going to be a busy Tuesday am, and won't necessarily have the time to do this.

These are horribly dark times. Don't give up. They want you to give up. Don't give up.

What a GREAT Time to be Alive!
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 06/17/2018 16:52:24

Congrats to everyone for living during this exciting time period! Look at how we are making America Great Again, from crying over raccoons scaling tall buildings to the sweet, sweet sounds of little children ripped from their parents! Oh, and a happy Fathers day to them. (As well as to our President).

Still Alive
Author: TriSec    Date: 06/16/2018 09:41:00

Good Morning.

This past week, a childhood friend of mine lost her husband to the "Big C". She was the youngest of our 'posse' in those days - the baby sister of my then best friend, and the youngest one in the neighborhood.

She's perhaps the most serendipitous of those Facebook connections. I saw her name pop up in a feed belonging to one of my Scouter friends in another city. I wasn't sure it was her, but then I saw her brother on the mutual friend list. Cornering my scouter friend, I discovered that they were next door neighbors. Of all things.

Fluffy Friday

Holy Crap this has been a epic week of, well, crap. Take a breather for a tiny kitten cam or puppies, or whatever other cam you find that brings you a bit of joy this Friday.

To Hell in a Handbasket
Author: BobR    Date: 06/14/2018 14:37:50

We have a common saying around here that every day seems like a week and every week seems like a month with this administration. This past week has been no different. Every day seems like the country is descending further into a fascist dictatorship, as congressional Republicans seem content to let tRump freely trample on everything this country has stood for. There are 3 major areas that have dominated my conscious observations.

The G-7 summit is supposed to be easy. We get together with our allies and discuss how to move trading and human rights forward for everyone. The occupant of the White House seems to take a special joy in pissing in everyone's corn flakes, and so he called for punitive tariffs on all of them. Once there (showing up late, of course), he warned them all not to retaliate. Of course they will, and Canada said so after tRump had ducked out early. Naturally, tRump had some nasty words for Trudeau and Canada, our longest and closest ally. To add a moldy cherry to the rancid whipped cream on top of the shit sundae, he called for Russia to be added back into the G-7, seemingly completely unaware as to why they were booted out in the first place.

Biggest audience ever. PERIOD.
Author: Raine    Date: 06/13/2018 13:13:16

So, yesterday we went to the DC Capitals Stanley cup parade and it was incredible.

Of course, jokes were overhead about the size of the crowd comparing to a certain squatter in the White House. It really did seem much larger than the 100,000+ people that were estimated to be there. The people of the region were electrified, providing a joyful release from the swampy bubble we have had to endure since January 2016.

Good Morning.

Since I'm a day late and a dollar short here in the AAV offices, I was reading the Sunday Globe yesterday afternoon. I ran across an interesting take on the role of the military in modern society.

Consider for a moment the ongoing schism between red and blue states. I don't think we can call it an ideological divide anymore - this is becoming a vast fissure dividing communities, families, and businesses. Reversing the trend seems to be beyond the efforts of mere citizens like you and me.
