The Plopsters! (tm)
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 03/07/2010 15:16:41

As you know, it's Oscar's night, but the day belongs to the (first and last) annual Plopsters Awards™ (pending). The award that goes to the dumbest and/or most deceiving of our Politicians and Pundits.

Here is the nominee's for Best Direction of Deceit:

Nominee - Sarah Palin and her use of "Death Panels" on, of all things, her Facebook:

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's ‘death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

A brilliant scam that made use of the casual social networking site - so "it must be true", right?

Nominee - Teabagger/model/Senator Scott Brown with his claim that the stimulus is flaccid. On Feb 4 he told ABC news:

The last stimulus bill didn’t create one new job, and in some states the money that was actually released hasn’t even been used yet,

This was said with a straight face! A fabulous job of acting on his part. He'll soon be following up with his own sitcom when his stint as politician ends.

Nominee - Rudy Guiliani as told to ABC's inflatable "that's all the time we have" man, George Steponoponolosisosis:

We had no domestic attacks under Bush.

This one may have been too over the top for our judges. But good luck, Rudy.

But the winner is:
Jay Leno and the Tonight Show Director for sweetening (adding laughter, giggling and applause) to Sarah Palin and her very lame jokes on the show.

Here's a sample of the stuff they pumped up:
Hello. Thank you, Jay. Thank you. I'm so happy to get to be here. This is a thrill of a lifetime really. And Alaska, being so different from Los Angeles. Here when people have a frozen look on their face, I find out it's Botox. (Laughter.)
It is so beautiful here, though, so warm and beautiful. Back home, ooh, it was freezing. It was 5 degrees below Congress' approval rating.....

Shaun White on the show. Oh, what an amazing athlete. I watched him do a double McTwist 1260, and the only other people to do a double McTwist 1260 was last week: the White House on healthcare.

Congratulations guys!! Your Plop Award is in the mail. Keep your eyes out for it.

Lastly, this year we want to pay tribute to Sen. John McCain, who has given us so many inaccurate, implausible, or downright horrifying statements; remember the woman who gets raped by the gorilla joke? There is just not enough room on the internet to name all of his faux pas', bad puns, lies or mean spirited remarks aimed at minorities, but recently he outdid himself by pointing out a letter that was supposedly signed by 1,000 “distinguished retired military leaders” who all say they oppose DADT repeal.

Opps! Seems some of the names are of dead people. And still others did not sign it at all. Shocking. I know. Here are some of the other names signed on the letter that have not been confirmed as to their accuracy:

Mike Hunt
General Peter Johnson
Mr. Dick Trickle
Amanda Lick
Major Lee Hung
Heywood Jiblomy
Edith D. Dick
Colonel M. T. Sack
Seaman Guzzler
and
Mr. Hugh Janus.

Great one!!! "I see dead people....."

Rather ironic that the Republicans who demand voter ID to prevent "dead people" from voting are using dead people's fake signatures on a letter to kill legislative reform.

Hello, bloggers!! Excellent post, VJ!!!

Once again, John McCain lowers my opinion of him. There was a time when, even if I disagreed with him, I thought he stood on principles. Now, he has shown himself to be capable of doing anything for a political win. He may have to in the face of his challenge from J.D. Haywood.

Amd DirecTV has been without Versus for 6 months. How will the sports leader maintain that image if they can't see most of the NHL playoff coverage.

The trend in the biz looks like it will be more missing pissing contents between programmers and providers over pricing.

Of course if ABC really wanted to go hardline they could have pulled the ESPN and Disney networks along with ABC Family and SoapNet but they obviously don't want to lose the money Cablevision is paying for those channels.

So if you have Cablevision in NY you don't get to see the Oscars tonight?

Neat.

I'm sure the advertisers are happy about that.

Channel 7 is running an ad campaign actively encouraging viewers to switch to FiOS or DirecTV except how many people can call and get their service provider changed in less than 24 hours? At least the CT Cablevision subscribers can still view ABC through WTNH since it is not an ABC O&O.

I guess in that case your only options are a quick trip to the Shack for an antenna (hopefully you know what to do with it) or elsewhere for a USB TV dongle. Better hurry though, it probably takes forever to install the software.

Wonder if Mama has Cablevision?

If she's in Manhattan she most likely has Time Warner although some buildings may have RCN or FiOS as well. Cablevision is in the Bronx and most of Brooklyn and the rest of the city has Time Warner.

I know Cablevision had a number of systems in the Boston area including the city of Boston and Brookline but they were sold to what was then Media One (now Comcast). I remember it was Continental Cable before that.

Steph has stated that her cable provider sounds like Slime Porner, so I guess we can figure out who provides Momma with cable service.

Well, it looks like we got progress. Apparently, ABC popped back on Cablevision during the Oscars.
