ReDeclaration of Independence

It's a new year. Time for a new government by re-examining an old classic...

IN CYBERWORLD, Jan 2, 2008.

The unanimous Declaration of the fifty United States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present President of the United States is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.


In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our American brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by our government to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our ancestors' emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the Bush Administration, and that all political connection between them and the Administration of George Bush, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

So perhaps some of the links aren't exact matches, and some don't pertain 100% to just the Bush Administration. However, there's no denying our current government is broken.

WOW!! Excellent blog!! Makes me wanna.................do something.

Except that I am hopelessly snowed in. We currently have more than "snowfall" its a virtual BLANKET of snow coming down, and its been steady since midnight last night. My little street never see's a snowplow, unless one of the neighbors brings his tractor out.

So, here I'll be all day-- maybe for the next couple of days!!

Snippets of my weekend:



I watched two wildly diverse movies this weekend..."Who Killed the Electric Car" and "Akira"...



My Aunt was complaining that home heating oil was over $3.50/gal this year, and it's costing about $500/month to keep the house warm.



With gas over $3 right now, nobody I know is buying a full tank anymore (myself included.) I'm putting in $20/week and hoping for the best.



My aged uncle and last living link to "The Greatest Generation" is in the hospital with CHF...don't know if it's the beginning of the end or not.



My wingnuts-in-law are having a hard time of it now...Mrs. TriSec's father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last summer, and he seems to be not responding to any treatments and continues to decline. Mum-in-law is not coping well, either.



We've got one more holiday to go through...Three Kings is this Sunday then we can finally take down our tree.



I apparently don't understand the power of addiction...I was wondering recently if I have increased my consumption of alcohol too much recently....but New Year's Day I found the thought of any more drink to be repulsive, I think choking down one glass of wine with dinner was probably too much. Still feel a little icky this morning...but I've lost count of how many 'alkies' I know. (All hail AA...they saved my friend who surely would be dead by now if it wasn't for them.)



The NH primary is next week, but you wouldn't really know it from the ads. We see Romney and McCain, and a couple of Obama's here and there, but nobody else.



Anyway, I digress.

TRISEC: I've made no mystery of the fact that I'm in recovery for drugs and alcohol and I go to AA. If you think you have a problem, just go to a few open meetings to listen. There's nothing for you to lose. (I'm sure you can figure out how to go about finding out where and when they are, if not, PM me and I'll tell you how).



At worst you'll lose a few hours of your life, at best you'll find your answer to whether you consume beyond "normal" use.

Breaking Classic Movie alert: For anyone else snowed in/bored. Great Robert Florey movie starting on TCM, The Beast with Five Fingers (1946). A silly horror film about a severed hand, starring Peter Lorre. Robert Florey was a very prolific and under-rated director. He did some great work. This one scared the bejesus out of many of us post- baby boomers when we were kids.

Getting my drivers seat replaced. Got a good price deal. May need wipers replaced too. It's 29 degrees and we just had some flurries. Supposed to be really cold tomorrow.

I think I've seen that thanks to UHF tv of the 70's. Zombie movies scare(d) the hell out of me. That and Vincent Price.

Heya tri... we went to an outdoors store yesterday, ran into a couple who dioes a lot of scouting... he told me that the Girl scouts of America no longer camp! So, he has offered to include the girls on his expeditions... (I thought that was very cool actually, he is going to have a co-ed rock climbing trip) Have you heard of anything like this up your way? For Myself, I was shocked to hear the the GSA no longer does camping. The woman said that they are choosing to focus on self esteem instead... WTF?

The Sun's come out here. But it is still 28 degrees here. Tomorrow, it's supposed to only be in the low 20's. That'll be a good day to curl up with some hot chocolate.



Jeeperes, 13 in North Carolina. Granted, it's not quite the sun belt, but I guess you guys aren't used to that there.

The Girl Scouts still own several fine woods facilities in this area, not the least of which is Cedar Hill Camp right here in Waltham.



We were out there in October with the Cub Scouts..we went by several active campsites on our night hike, so yes they are still camping around here.

Mrs. Baden-Powell (wife of the Founder) started the program not long after Baden-Powell himself started the boy scouts. She originally called it the "Girl Guides" and used just about everything there was in the original "Scouting for Boys" handbook.



In England the program is 100% co-ed, there is no separate boy and girl scouts. Scouts Canada toyed with this idea about 5 years ago, but it never went anywhere.

More reason for John Edwards I say. He took responsibility for that mistake. I didn't think he would run for president at the time, and I found his apology heartfelt.

Edwards on on the Early Show last week and Harry was questioning him about a group that was "supporting" him with ads in Iowa. Edwards told Harry that there was nothing he could do about the group expect tell them to stop and he had several times, but Harry kept asking about it and Edwards again asked them to stop with the ads. It was like Harry was trying to connect him with talking money from groups that he said he wouldn't.

Edwards said that he would like to tell them to stop, but he can't becuase of the way the law is, it would make it look like he was trying to influence them. Here's what happened to on her first day back to work. . .

My nephew will turn 11 tomorrow, so I went to Walgreen's this morning to get a card and picked up a $20 FYE Gift Card. I brought it to the mailroom where I work, asked them to weigh it, put my postage on it and off I went.

Well a few hours later, this guy I used to work for calls me and says "Hey, something with your return address on it, came mixed up with some contracts that I just got from the mailroom."

So, I went to his desk and picked up the card. It was open and the contents were missing.

I asked him about it and he said "That's how it was. It was stuck in the middle of this pile of contracts." I know this guy. He wouldn't lie.

So, some DOUCHEBAG, in the mail room, stole a gift card out of a little kid's birthday card which led me to have to go get another one and, because it was then so late in the day, that I had to overnight it to him. . .

A $20 gift card, when all was said and done, cost me $56.

Karma is a bitch...I feel bad for what that person will encounter.

Hmm...I sort of did that. I sent an email to the director of that department, informing her of the incident and asking that she perform an inquiry.
