Oh The Thoughts I Think
Author: clintster    Date: 08/06/2010 10:40:08

A few thoughts that have occupied my mind over the past couple of weeks:

How soon do you think it'll be before "The Simpsons" do a Glenn Beck reference on the blackboard in the opening credits?

It's quite a thing to hear the decision striking down Prop 8 in California, then turning the channel and seeing one Georgia GOP gubernatorial candidate attack another for supporting a center for gay youth.

It's still another to hear that supposedly gay friendly candidate totally dismiss her earlier support as just politics.

It's always an odd thing to hear conservative pundits poo-pooh the idea of environmentally conscious vehicles and other Earth-saving solutions for the home, road, and air. Seems like, in addition to the ecological benefits, it could create many, many new jobs here in the US and make beaucoup bucks for the people who institute these technologies. Shouldn't we be encouraging American know-how to solve these problems instead of figuring out how to put an extra large cup holder in next year's Ford Expedition?

I think we are reaching a saturation point of conservatives calling the Obama administration and Congress "socialists" "communists" "subversives" and "Bolsheviks". You can only throw charges like that around for so long before people start to tire of it, and I think that unless GOP congressional leaders present actual alternatives to Democratic proposals, they're going to be rather shocked come November.

The leak has been capped. Hooray! Now, can we clean up the oil on the beaches and honestly determine what's happening to all the spillage at sea?

That's all I've got. Gotta get back to work; have fun and remember to tip your servers!

I guess I will start off this bloggie on a warm, happy note.

As I am heading into "forced relocation" mode, I probably won't be around much at all for a while, until things stabilize. This was probably inevitable ever since both of us started having employment problems starting 5 or so years ago. But don't for a second feel too sorry, because 99.9% of this is on me.

I MIGHT be on with Kenny Pick tonight, we got in touch last week, but I haven't heard anything else yet.

My work visitors are here for the day, so I won't be back until they're gone. Sorry to dump and run. I just feel everything is falling apart around me.

Morning

There really does seem to be something in the air right now

Morning

We're still without power this morning. I came into the office early so I could pick up some breakfast on the way. Our neighborhood is a mess. I haven't heard "official" reports, but it sure looks like a tornado hit. Branches torn loose and twisted... light poles bent... trees down...

A couple streets over, the utility pole is broken in two places and the transformer is laying in the street. A little further south of us got it even worse. The Mayor declared a "state of emergency" for Alexandria and asked people to stay off the streets.

All in all - we're lucky that our only problem is the power is off.

have to run out for work back in a few

Morning, comrades.

We had our share of weather yesterday...parts of Storrow Drive were under deep water, and another section of highway south of town was closed due to flooding, too.

A few summers back, we had a "gustnado" strike our neighborhood. Lots of trees down, but no power outages.

It's day one of the birthday triad this weekend...my neice is 12 today.

Morning all & Happy Fridee!

Here's a little nugget of outrage to munch on while you enjoy that first cup of office coffee..

Hang in there TR! Something will come along.. And hey you can always move to Providence and sign up with Schilling's company.

I've got another friend to worry over. I think I may be watching her marriage fall apart.

The hell of it is; they aren't *actually* married....they've been together for 18 years and finally decided to make it official this year. They were planning a Thanksgiving wedding, but they've been fighting about it ever since. She's on the verge of calling it off.

I don't know that I can help matters any, other than being the sympathetic ear right now, but she's miserable.

They should be reminded that the marriage is not as important as the relationship itself. The marriage should be a celebration of their relationship, not a definition of it

Good morning, bloggers!

Trojanrabbit, hang in there. I have learned that if one thing does not work, try another. Remember, that you are not alone.

I will be busy with a few things around the house, as well as doing some job hunting and prepping for my interview on Monday.

Good morning folks.

That was a rough one in DC. It was threatening to rain here all day yesterday but I don't think we have gotten anything. So far this summer, we have more threats of rain than actual rain. I had a blast last night since Lizz was a hoot at her show last night and everyone sang Happy Birthday to her at the end.

Listening to caller, Wanda Sykes did a whole routine about this (having to come out as "gay" is harder than being black, because she never had to come out as "black")

At LEAST I know where we're going. The same apt complex we spent our first 17 years in, and we can start moving in next week. Those 17 years are the reason they're not bothering checking on us.

And now they allow cats.

That at least is good because kitties need a good place.

Has gone? Nay, Tri, TSA went insane a long, long time ago. This is but a symptom of the insanity.

Yeah. We just reloaded the freezer with meat on Thursday. If the power's not on by the time I head home from work, I'll be buying several bags of ice.

Well, you could always have a massive cook-off for a certain blog admin's birthday. It is only 8 hours on the road now, much more convenient than Georgia.

I wonder if the old layout will be familiar to Lucky (it's not the same apt). Probably not, he was a kitten.

Just finished reading the 18meg incident report doc released by BP about the events leading up to the explosion of the drilling rig.. really technical stuff but interesting. According to the timeline they were just about to plug the thing with cement too.
