One More Day, One Day More 2010
Author: Raine    Date: 11/01/2010 12:51:45

On the Morning of November 4, 2008, our dear friend Clintster wrote the following:
[...]We talked about the 2000 election, and she made a startling confession to me.

“I didn’t vote”, she confessed.

I looked at her in shock and surprise. “What happened?” I asked, sure that the answer would have something to do with being kidnapped by ruthless pirates, shanghaied to… well, Shanghai, and forced to work in a sweatshop turning out counterfeit Bush-Cheney bumper stickers. If only it were that simple.

“I didn’t think it was that important”, she protested, “and I was trying to get my Master’s degree.”

I teased her for weeks afterwards for being responsible for Bush-Cheney, even though North Carolina was not in play that year. However we should all take note that NC and many other states are in play, and regardless of how crucial your state is to the national election, you should take the time and vote for the local candidates you see as fitting to your interests. A good house is only as solid as its foundation. Vote early, vote well, and enjoy the thrill of tomorrow.
Every election and every vote is important.

Unlike 2008, EVERY state is in play this year. Every member of the House of Representatives is up for debate. It is important. The media has been pushing the meme that there is an enthusiasm gap, the media is basically calling for the demise of the Democratic party -- I just don't know, I am nervous, but I know that this can all be avoided if registered Democrats just get up and vote. if 215,000 + people can travel to the National Mall on an October afternoon, they can vote.

So today, friends, please take some time to Help get out the vote in whatever way you can. This election is important. If the GOP -- the party of "No" once again regains the majority, the strides that have been made will stop altogether, and some will be repealed. DADT? Won't have a chance of happening. DOMA? Forget it altogether. Repealing the Bush Tax Cuts? Nope. Jobs packages? No again. Bringing manufacturing jobs back to America? Dream on. Changing the filibuster? NO. Whatever you think could be achieved will NOT happen if the GOP becomes the majority party. It's that simple.

Let's not forget that many have promised to bring forth a slew of indictments against the President. They have told you what they will bring to DC, this wasn't hyperbole.

But the biggest reason why Elections matter? Say this out loud: House Leader John Boehner. Just like 2008, 2000 and all other elections -- it matters. One More day and one day more --

Vote -- elections matter. Elections are important.

and
Raine

Governors DO matter, as well in a goo number of states I believe they have a big say in redistricting.

I have been trying to find the stats saying that when it rains that more Dems stay home.

I think people stay home in general. I worry about the Dems staying home --

I was completely bonked yesterday. I went to bed fairly early, and I'm still tired.

Comment by TriSec on 11/01/2010 14:16:15
I must admit, at the beginning of this whole thing, I was contemplating skipping this year, or at best showing up to turn in a blank ballot.

With 24 hours to go no, no such thoughts are being entertained by your loyal TriSec.

We just can't afford anything else. Like the Pres says: D to go forward, R to go back. I don't want to go back.

'nuff said.

I'm not sure I agree with Chris's saying "why doesn't he just shut up and act?" about Jon Voight. I don't like it when the Right says that about actors supporting Democrats.

I would miss the crazy Jon Voight stuff if he just acted - where's the fun in that - okay so there was Anaconda

Remember this: 1994 gave a GOP majority -- thus allowing them to repeal Glass/Steagal.

Good morning, bloggers!!

This is a rare morning when I am at home, so let me thank Raine for an excellent blog. I hope that everyone is doing well today.

I am voting tomorrow, even if the statewide Democratic candidates and the candidate for the U.S. Senate have little chance. I even volunteered for Alexi Giannoulias in Illinois yesterday. (I went to a location that MoveOn.org was supposed to have something at in the morning, but they screwed up. Let's say I was not the only person upset at standing around in a ward office. So, this sadly will be the first election since 2006 where I have not worked for a candidate. Next time, I will go to a candidate's office and volunteer.) Even if I believe that there has not been enough positive change and that the Democrats have failed to stress their achievements and the differences between themselves and the Republicans, I prefer the Dems over the Republicans. (After the election, I think that we need to press for a more progressive party. I think that it was Harry Truman who said that in a race between a Republican and a would be Republican, the people pick the Republican.)

There has been no word on a recent interview, so I will e-mail the woman I interviewed to ask if she can at least give me any feedback.

Well, I have to run some errands but I will try to be back later. (Things seem to slow down in the afternoon.)

Morning all & Happy Mondee!

Ooof my back & knees still ache.. feet are ok tho I guess.

Pictures are still coming along as I edit them down.. sleep and the Pats game were the priorities yesterday!

Comment by TriSec on 11/01/2010 15:22:19
Scoop, you are rather complex in the sports realm. Patriots and Yankees? These would normally be mutually exclusive....

What say you regarding the Green? (We already know about the Whalers. My heart pumps black and gold blood, but I miss them, too; they were my second team.)

If I could figure out how to get the damn pix that Stan took off my laptop, I could bring them over to my MAc and do the same.

And before you all ask -- YES, I did.

Good morning everyone.

I think I'm just passing through right now since I have to be at work at 1:30 today. Putting in a lot of hours because I need the money to get the car straightened out.

Have to like how Cablevision put out a statement saying how they mostly caved in to Fox to end the dispute but considering how cheap Charlie Ergen is I wonder what terms Dish Network got when they settled with Fox on Friday.

Actually my loyalties are split between the Pats and the NY Giants - of the three "local" NFL teams I'll take anyone over the Jets.

Never really been much of a NBA fan, but since I grew up in the era of Bird vs. Magic, and since the Celtics sometimes play home games in Hartford, I have to say they're my team. Ray Allen coming to the Celts is what got me interested in them again tho - he was the man who led UConn to that first title when I was there!

And heh hockey.. my first team was the New Haven Nighthawks! My idol when I played youth hockey tho was Rejean Lemelin, so that automatically made me a B's fan. I never really had much of an attachment to the Whalers until after the Nighthawks left, and not too long after that the Whalers went too. :(

If the agreement hadn't been reached you would have lost channels 5 and 20 today.

I've always liked hockey. I used to have one of those table games with the rods and springs and the teams you could change out by pulling off the players and putting in a different team. I was usually the Broons or the Maple Leafs (occasionally the Fliers).

In Atlanta, hockey was kind of a disappointment. The Flames left, then we got a minor league team (the Knights) that ended up leaving too. Finally, we got the Thrashers, but for some reason I never really connected with them (even though I bought a jersey). I finally connected with a minor league team in an Atlanta suburb, and went to numerous games.

Moving to DC, I did not have a favorite NHL team, and the Capitals are a fun team to watch, so I now consider myself a Caps fan. I'm still a Falcons fan and Ga Tech is my college team, regardless of the sport.

Baseball doesn't interest me, nor does the NBA, so no favorites there...

I went to Northeastern briefly, but my college loyalties lie with BC for Hockey and Football (Mrs. TriSec prefers BU) and a number of ACC teams in roundball. (Not the Eagles or the Terps, though.)

I believe you know my long angst over baseball. After the Sox, in no particular order I have the Reds, Cards, Dodgers, and Cubs.

Listening to Sarah Palin's soundbites, I finally have something nice I can say about her.

As a wind instrument player myself, I admire her lungpower and circular breathing ability; some of those phrases are astonishingly long. She'd have made a helluva brass player, if she chose that path.

But like a certain "Mr. G"...one wonders what kind of notes would be coming out, despite the technical skills.
