Thank A Vet

Today is Veterans Day.
Mr Jon Soltz, Chairperson of VoteVets.org wrote this yesterday
[..] On the 11th Day of the 11th month on the 11th hour, in 1918, World War I ended. Armistice Day was celebrated until 1954, when it became a day to remember everyone who had served this great nation, honorably.

As America 's 21st Century Patriots, we Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are the newest to this community, but also among the proudest. We are not just proud of our service, but proud to be joining some of the greatest Americans who ever lived. From those who served in battle, from World War II through Operation Desert Storm, and to those who served during peacetime, we are now a part of an extraordinary community.

On this day, we ask that politics be put aside, and everyone come together to honor those who have come back recently, and those who served before us. Take the time to ask a veteran in your community how they are doing. Take the time to listen to them, and hear their wisdom. [..]
Seemed fairly common sense for the day. straightforward, not too emotional. I figured he is saying it better than I could, and he has a lot more right to say it than I do. Then I saw this.
WASHINGTON, DC - In an email to the over 100,000 supporters of VoteVets.org, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of the group, Jon Soltz, announced he is taking a one-year leave of absence from the organization to deploy to Iraq, as part of Operation New Dawn. He will reassume his position upon his return.
[snip]

"I'm proud of Jon for going back to lead the Soldiers in his unit in Iraq, and just as proud of what he's built and will leave behind," said retired General Wesley Clark. "VoteVets.org has cemented its place in the veterans community, and the organization that Jon started from nothing now has over 100,000 members, and an infrastructure that will allow it to continue its strong work, while Jon is in Iraq. I look forward to my continued involvement with VoteVets.org in the coming year, and well into the future."

"Jon has provided tremendous leadership for VoteVets.org, starting the group from scratch, but what's most impressive to me is how he's grown it into a movement that will thrive, even when he is gone," said former Senator Bob Kerrey. "There is no doubt in my mind that VoteVets.org will continue to be a force - a strong voice of the veteran - for a long time to come, and why I'm proud to continue my affiliation with them."

Since returning from Iraq in 2003, Soltz has served in the U.S. Army Reserves, and was promoted to the rank of Major. From May to September 2003, Soltz served as a Captain during Operation Iraqi Freedom, deploying logistics convoys with the 1st Armored Division. During 2005, Soltz was mobilized for 365 days at Fort Dix New Jersey, training soldiers for combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served his country with distinction in the Kosovo Campaign as a Tank Platoon Leader between June and December 2000.
This is the vet I would like to thank today, altho there are many more out there who deserve our gratitude. This is a man who has tirelessly given to our nation and it's veterans. Here he is returning to the front - again. Get back soon sir, get back safe, and thank you for your service to our nation.

Thank you all.

and
Raine

I'm kinda glad I decided not to go with the Tax cuts story this morning.

Today it seems the WH is denying altogether that they are caving on the Bush Tax cuts.

White House denies giving in on Bush tax cuts: The White House is sharply denying the Huffington Post story I noted below claiming that David Axelrod signaled a willingness to accept a temporary extension of all the Bush tax cuts, claiming that their position remains unchanged.

Axelrod emails:
There is not one bit of news here. I simply re-stated what POTUS and Robert have been saying. Our two strong principles are that we need to extend the tax cuts for the middle class, but we can't afford a permanent extension of the tax cuts for the wealthy.

And White House comm director Dan Pfeiffer adds:
The story is overwritten. Nothing has changed from what the President said last week. We believe we need to extend the middle class tax cuts, we cannot afford to borrow 700 billion to pay for extending the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and we are open to compromise and are looking forward to talking to the Congressional leadership next week to discuss how to move forward. Full Stop, period, end of sentence.

For those that are wondering what I am talking about -- it's this POS story. Maybe sam Stein should stay far far away from Howard Fineman.

Morning, folks. Our billing system has been down for over an hour now. Can't do much EDI without the E part.

And I came in early this morning too...

2 or three things would make it more perfect:
Rach
Randi

and Stephanie.

I suppose I could thank my brother, but he's been kind of a douche, so I guess I'll pass.

I love that! 'Wait until Boehner is reminded that you can;t smoke on commercial flights!!! '

Well, cruise ships almost never hit icebergs and go down anymore. Engine fires, though...

My thought on DWTS and Bristol is I thought with all that dancing she would thin out but it looks more like she's eating her feelings

Good morning all.

If I could go on a cruise, the one with Mike Malloy, Hal Sparks and Lizz Winstead might be a hoot.

Ya know I heard this BS yesterday about Boehner taking commercial flights instead of military ones.. and the first thing I thought was "What a load of BS there's no way it costs less on a commercial aircraft (and you KNOW His Orangeness flies first class only) than it would on a military plane. Plus, you KNOW that he's being reimbursed for his travel expenses, which means he's wasting tax dollars.

Raine and I had this discussion yesterday - he's 3rd in line for the Presidency. I suspect those tasked with maintaining his security will have something to say about this.

Heads up: Ask a Vet is already written for Tuesday. Better stock up on tissues. There's one story I bookmarked because I couldn't finish it. Yes, it's about freakin' Arlington, but not for the reasons you think.

Bush and Hitler are going to have to fight it out one day over who is going to be Lucifer's second, methinks.

Time Magazine's Person of The Year page is up - go vote!

Glenn Beck is on the list and somehow his rating is over 50% - you know what to do!

Person of the Year is for the person that has dominated the news the most - it's not necessarily a postive thing.
