Hi out there!

I'm no longer a myth; Your Loyal TriSec does indeed still exist.

There's been a bit of a crackdown at work since the New Year...even as a newbie, it's very easy to get used to being online at will and streaming audio again, but that seems to have gone away for now. It does appear to be technical, not anti-internet. We've been having all sorts of bandwith issues and our system has been up and down far more than normal since we pulled 2010 off the calendar, so we'll see what shakes out as we go deeper into 2011.

In any case, I've been following the news just like you this week. The laundry list of things Bob wrote about yesterday throws something else into clarity this week; the piss-poor quality of our so-called media outlets. 2011 marks an anniversary for me; it's been 20 years since I've been going to the BBC as my primary international news source. Remember 1991? In August of that year, the Soviet Union started falling apart. During the coup attempt, the BBC had a reporter on the ground at their so-called "White House" with Boris Yeltsin. At the time, she didn't know if she would live or die, and the reporting that afternoon reflected that.

As I've said ever since, the Soviet Union fell apart and the world changed...and it's like I was there to see it. Such is the power of true journalism.

I'll throw a couple more stories out there...has anyone heard about what is going on in the Ivory Coast, or Tunisia this week? And did we all remember that it's the one-year anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti?

Some years ago, I believe it was George Carlin, did a satirical piece about the foreign exchange rate. It wasn't about currency; it was people. Specifically, how many foreigners needed to be killed or injured for a rough equivalency in Americans. For the Brazilians, it's running at least 500:1 before we've even paid attention. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Bravo TriSec - that's exactly what I was implying yesterday with the "missing white woman" snark.

My cable systems does offer EuroNews and BBC World in the digital tier which does give us some international news. FiOS has CNN International. In the DC area some of WNVC's digital sub-channels do include access to France 24 and Al-Jazeera English which gives those channels some limited US exposure even if the TV news race in the US focuses on the major news networks and CNN, Fox, and MSNBC which don't report much international news. CNN switched to simulcasting CNN International following the Haiti Earthquake last year since they gave better coverage than the main channel.

How about the election and the flaven in Sudan? The flooding in Australia and Brazil have been in the second or third segments on the national evening news shows. I have been watching the BBCA nightly news cast recently and they do a decent job with the news stories they cover worldwide, varied and typically quite interesting.

My biggest beef is the BREAKING NEWS thing. Can something truly be breaking news for three or four days? The same information over and over is not breaking. It's tiresome.

Hope the snow people are doing well. We are suffering through a bit of a heat wave. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Hi Izzy, During Winter I wish I was either in South Florida, Vegas, or SoCal where I wouldn't have to worry about digging out or driving in it.

Bobber, Raine, I don't know if you'd heard about this, but Neil Boortz's sidekick passed away today.
