We Are the Change
Author: BobR    Date: 02/01/2008 13:08:21

Everybody deals with bad situations in different ways. Some people lash out, some people withdraw. When I heard about Edwards suspending his campaign on Wed., I didn't know what to do with my feelings. I suggested to my love that she channel her feelings into her art. I decided to take my own advice, and channel it into music.

Understand that I studiously avoid trying to write political music. There are very few that can do that and make it work. There are SO many bad political songs out there...

But - I fell asleep Wednesday night with the beginnings of a song in my head, and woke up yesterday with it nearly finished. I haven't had a chance to really work out the music parts or record it, but I am sharing the lyrics (subject to change) with the blog today...

We Are The Change
Change....
Change is in the air
We can feel it in our bones
We can feel the need to care.

Now...
Now is the time
The journey of a thousand miles
Begins with a step - step by step we start to climb...

We - we are the ones
We can be the change we want to see in the lives of everyone
We - we are the ones
We can be the change we want to see, but we've only just
We've only just begun

Hope...
There's hope in our hearts
They can silence those who speak for us
But our voices won't be silenced - not when our singing starts

We - we are the ones
we can be the change we want to see in the lives of everyone
We - we are the ones
we can be the change we want to see, but we've only just
We've only just begun

As we chip away the mountain
and turn it into sand
As we face the mighty ocean on the shore
Our single voices join together
As we're standing hand in hand
Listen to that mighty roar
"We're not going to take it any more!"

Love...
Love is the way
Shine enlightenment into the night
To bring the light of day
We'll never go away

We - we are the ones
we can be the change we want to see in the lives of everyone
Yes we - we are the ones
we can be the change we want to see, but we've only just
We've only just begun

We are the change
We are the change
We are the change

BobR,

I can't wait to her those beautiful words set to music - great lyrics! I'm home from work this morning - sore throat, but my spirit is feeling feeling better. I am encouraged by the civility of the debate last night and even happier that Judge Robertson ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in the eleven year ongoing class action lawsuit (Cobell v. Kempthorne) that is seeking to resolve the mismanagement of the federal gov't's trust responsibility to individual Indian account holders. During the summer of 2006 I had the pleasure of meeting and hosting Elouise Cobell (the Lead Plaintiff in the lawsuit). She is a very inspirational woman who is dedicated to making sure that Indians finally receive justice from the U.S. gov't. That is a question I would like to ask every remaining candidate - "Where do you stand on resolving the Cobell litigation?" Just my mornin' thoughts - nothing as inspirational as a song, but what's rattling around in my pea brain ;)

McCain nearly abandoned the GOP!

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was close to leaving the Republican Party in 2001, weeks before then-Sen. Jim Jeffords (Vt.) famously announced his decision to become an Independent, according to former Democratic lawmakers who say they were involved in the discussions.

In interviews with The Hill this month, former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) and ex-Rep. Tom Downey (D-N.Y.) said there were nearly two months of talks with the maverick lawmaker following an approach by John Weaver, McCain’s chief political strategist.

Democrats had contacted Jeffords and then-Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-R.I.) in the early months of 2001 about switching parties, but in McCain’s case, they said, it was McCain’s top strategist who came to them.

Any one special? I can look to see if there's are special exhibits going on that require a ticket.

We have the whole Smithsonian system (well except American history it's closed for renovations) which includes, Air & Space, Natural, Industry, Textile, and Native American, there's a medical one too but I've never seen it.

There's the National Gallery, the Corcoran, the Hirshorn, Portrait, Women in Art, and the Sackler.

There's the Holocust Museum it requires tickets and I have never been in, I know I'm just going cry all the way through.

There's the Spy Museum which requires tickets and I hear it's really cool.

There's also the National Archive to see and so many of the monuments.

I wonder if that goes with the theory that locals often don't go to the tourist attractions. Just like us New Yorkers. It wasn't until my teens that I went to the tall buildings and the Museum of Natural History.

MoveOn has never endorsed a candidate for President. Last cycle, it required a 50 percent threshold for its presidential endorsement, and Howard Dean fell 6 points short. But now MoveOn has raised the bar to 66 percent-- a supermajority that will be hard for either candidate to meet. MoveOn members were largely split between Obama, Edwards, Kucinich and Clinton during its three virtual town halls about public policy last year.

Comment by Raine on 02/01/2008 16:56:32
From MSNBC:NBC News has learned the MoveOn.org PAC and the California SEIU will endorse Obama.

The 600,000-member union had been behind Edwards and has now moved to Obama -- the second reported union to do so. NBC News reported yesterday afternoon that the 200,000-member Transportation Workers Union was set to switch from Edwards to Obama today as well, now that the former North Carolina Senator has suspended his campaign.

Didn't know it was 3 buildings, in fact the only thing I know of the place is that my grandfather has a paper or study or something like that in there as a document.

Indeed there are , Mala. The Jefferson(that is the building we all think of as the LoC), the Adams; it is tucking in behind the Jefferson building. The Adams looks like something out a fever dream of Albert Speer. The newest building is the Madison; there is a cafeteria on the top floor it has an AMAZING view of Southeast DC. Food is not bad either.

back when I was a young Mondo, I would get my daily assignments from John Richards who was/is one of Nader's long time lackeys. I would drag my but over to Madison building since that is where the periodical and the law libaries are. I got to know both of those rooms really well. Good times, good times!

We have the whole Smithsonian system (well except American history it's closed for renovations) which includes, Air & Space, Natural, Industry, Textile, and Native American, there's a medical one too but I've never seen it.

There's something telling there - American History under renovation. Shivers of 1984...

I think it's more likely they want to update the ventilation system then to edit the exhibits. I mean really, have you ever been in there when it's peak tourist season in the middle of July? :p

That's when it's time to use the hotel pool.

Speaking of which, I wonder if the hotel will still have the little bunny farm on the roof by the pool?

I've been to just about every major library in the DC metro area at one point. I used to work for a document delivery company.

So libaries in DC I've been to:

LoC

Georgetown Law

George Washington Law

American U Law

National Medical Library

NIH Library

MLK Library

HUD lyeberry

DOT lyebarry

EPA lyeberry

U MD engineering

I might be forgetting some, but you get the idea.

I could have sworn there was a whole separate building for the Health and Medical musuem. People would say it was dark and creepy, not really any bigger then the Industry Building.

Speaking of dark and creepy did you ever get the National Aquarium before it was redone?

Nah, did you see the mythbusters this week?

The myth was that if you put a can of shaving cream in the freezer, then cut it open and throw it inside a car, it would expand and fill it up.

Well, it didn't.

So, instead they filled up a Volvo (Ha!) with some kind of reactive polycarbon foam that expands and hardens up. It was oozing through all the door seals and had blown the sunroof...

EVERYTHING was gone and put in various rooms around the campus. Bed, furniture, bongs, books, clothing........ everything.

Turns out the interview was for a temp job. But it could be for a few months. That'd be a help right now.

On another front, my landlord is giving me a hard time about getting repairs taken care of. He wants his regular handyman, who is in San Diego right now, to do the work. Meantime, I can't put away my dishes, pots and pans, linens or even the cats' litter box because of various bits of work that need to be done.

Frustrating.

I had a little of it on the satellite radio when I was driving home last night and my reaction (and so was Thom's) was why not Single Payer? It is already a working model in every country where the quality of health care is better than ours.

This is how 28 years of right-wing propaganda has poisoned political debate and made people stupid enough to vote for policies that have been hurting them economically and politically.
