Rare storms struck this place.
Gusting winds, crashing thunder
Remember the dead.
We had a Midwest-style outbreak here. While Massachusetts gets one or two tornadoes per year on average, this was an "unusual event". The Globe has already posted a story by some 'expert' that denies a link to global climate change or any other weather patterns. It's not even 24 hours yet...jump the gun much?
For a visual reference, dial up a highway map of this Commonwealth...look out west, the block defined by the CT state line, I-91, I-90, and I-84 encloses where everything happened yesterday.
Then read this.
Dealing With Republicans

It doesn't matter what Jared Bernstein says. It doesn't matter what Paul Krugman says. Or the president. They aren't listening. They are not going to listen. They are going to crash the car into the ditch. And, you know, like it or not, we're all in the car.
Some of them believe their own bullshit about supply-side economics. Most of the rest are well-paid to pretend they believe it. A small remainder know better but are afraid to counter the party's position.
We can use all the statistics in the world, appeal to every historical parallel, bring out every expert, cite every non-partisan study, and it isn't going to matter. We will not convince them that their way lies destruction.
And there is no stopping them. When Reagan's tax cuts ballooned the deficit, they forgot it happened. When Poppy's tax hike fixed the problem, they were happy to see him go. The success of Bill Clinton's economic recovery act did not impress them. They learned nothing from Dubya's destruction of the global economy. They didn't change their beliefs or behavior after getting drubbed two straight times in 2006 and 2008. They just doubled-down on the obstruction and the propaganda and the poison, and repeated a now well-worn pattern of exploding the debt only to turn around and blame the Democrats and social programs for the deficit.
They can't be taught through reason nor through electoral defeat. They will not argue or negotiate in good faith. Science means nothing to them. College education is suspect and institutions of higher learning are teeming with un-American disloyalists, socialists, and atheists.
Minorities and gays are eating away at the fabric of our society. Food Stamps are consuming our entire budget. The Muslims are coming to impose Shariah Law.
Do you have a solution for dealing with these people? Because, I don't.
SPRINGFIELD — Tornadoes tore through Western and Central Massachusetts yesterday, killing at least four people, injuring an untold number, and reducing schools, churches, and homes to splinters along its destructive path.
Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency throughout Massachusetts and ordered up to 1,000 troops from the National Guard to help with rescue efforts. He said at least 19 communities had reported damage and he asked officials in those towns and cities to close schools and keep nonemergency personnel home today to allow work crews to clear streets.
“We are in an emergency situation,’’ said the governor in a news conference at the state’s emergency management headquarters in Framingham. He said there had been reports of looting in Springfield, and he described the damage from the storm as extensive.
“We are hoping and praying and working as hard as possible to keep the fatalities limited to those four’’ already confirmed, he said.
Two of the deaths occurred in West Springfield, one in Springfield, and one in Brimfield, officials said. State Police said 33 people were injured in Springfield alone, including five seriously, in a storm that rapidly spread darkened skies across the state.
In Monson, residents described widespread damage that made the Central Massachusetts town look like it had been bombed. On some streets there appeared to be as many trees fallen as were still standing.
“There’s got to be 10 to 20 houses that are just completely gone,’’ said Heather M. Dickinson, 39, a resident who waited out the storm on her porch.
She said two churches in the small town had their steeples blown off and roofs had been torn off municipal buildings. She said the supermarket on Main Street was “wiped out’’ and several cars had been flipped over by the strong winds.
When the tornado came by, “it sounded like a . . . train coming in,’’ she said. She saw hail the size of golf balls. “We didn’t realize that it was a tornado until it was too late,’’ she said. “Everything is gone.’’
Destructive, deadly tornadoes are uncommon, but not unprecedented, in Massachusetts, and are typically the product of warm, moist air at the surface colliding with colder air aloft. The result can be explosive, as residents of Great Barrington can attest. In 1995, a Memorial Day twister killed three people hunkered down in their car.
One of the nation’s most lethal single tornadoes took aim at Worcester in 1953, killing 94.

I can't see an image....did that work?
If not, here's the link.
House Republicans “postponed a Wednesday vote on Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s resolution to end U.S. involvement in the bombing of Libya because they were afraid it would pass.†The House GOP will hold a meeting today to discuss the Demcratic congressman’s resolution and may decide to bring it up in the future for a vote.
Yesterday, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said President Obama did not “technicially†violate the War Powers Act by involving U.S. troops in Libya. Boehner said GOP leaders pulled a bill to withdraw the troops because “the House wasn’t ready to decide the question†and will meet today in a “closed-door meeting†on the issue.

Mornin' all..
Just about 22 years ago we had a tornado incident in my hometown.. This thing literally touched down two blocks from where my mom worked at the time. The thing that I most remember was the sky - it got incredibly dark, then turned green and started hailing like crazy.

On a Glee note - where you disappointed with the finale? I kinda was, esp after seeing The FUneral
Quote by Raine:It was really disappointing. All that build up and I think it fell really flat. it would have been fine if it were not the finale, mind you. But I expected a hellova lot more.Quote by wickedpam:

And for the record, I want more Beastie next season. She sorta fell off the end of the earth the last half of the season.

Next year is the last year for a few of the kids, I wonder how they will be bringing in new members.
I also like that Mercedes has a squeeze! That did make me a little verklempt.

Loved that little hand hold at the end - was it me or did Kurt seem freaked out that his boyfriend said I love you?
Quote by Raine:I think he was terribly surprised. Sometimes, Kurt, for all his confidence seems to not be very confidant that he can truly be loved by others.Quote by wickedpam:

He often seems surprised when his father and stepmother stands up for him.
Quote by Raine:
Mala, I still don't see what Kurt sees in Rachel.
I will admit she had some redeeming moments this season, but she still annoys me. Brittany however, I just adore. I hope they explore that story more next season. They are breaking so many barriers, it's amazing to me. and I know I am an old fart compared to the many that watch the show, I can only believe this is a really good thing for the youth of our nation. JUST for that, I love Glee.

Palin on the Freedom Trail.
One would hope that she might actually learn something today, but since the story notes they piled into two SUVs, that would seem highly unlikely.
The Freedom Trail is meant to be walked, read, and pondered...not driven by in city traffic.
But, I digress.

You mean Finn right, cause I don't think Kurt sees anything in Rachel
I know I'm totally out of the demo too, but I don't care.
Love Brittany! And her internet show - esp love when she interviews her cat XD

Missed the big Glee discussion...
I thought the first half of the show was awful, especially the songs and performances (and contrived plot devices). It got better in the second half with the performances at the competition.
