While the GOP fights to protect these people:

The top 10% wealthiest Americans -- the ones who hold 2/3 of the money:

Not to mention the very top 1%:

... It should be mentioned what the consequences of not raising the Debt Ceiling will be...

Cut $125 Billion Per Month - Right now, the federal government must borrow an additional $125 billion each month to finance all of its commitments. If the Treasury chooses to continue to pay creditors but stop all other federal spending, the government will have to begin reducing its spending by $125 billion every 30 days--mmediately. These cuts could affect everything from NASA and the FBI to congressional salaries and White House operating expenses.

Treasury Bonds Collapse - If the government defaults on its debt, economists say that prices for Treasury bonds would collapse and interest rates would probably soar to record highs. The centrist Democratic think tank Third Way estimates that the bond rate increases alone would eliminate nearly 650,000 jobs in the United States.

Cut Medicare and Social Security - To reduce spending by $125 billion a month, the government would have to make deep cuts to the two giant entitlement programs for the elderly, Medicare and Social Security.

Stock Market Plunge - Wall Street generally agrees with Geithner that it would be a disaster if the U.S. defaulted on its debt. In addition to damaging the nation's creditworthiness in global markets, most experts agree it would torpedo the stock market and very possibly trigger a double-dip recession.

Government Furloughs or Mass Layoffs - The federal government would most likely turn to furloughs or mass layoffs to immediately cut spending, possibly including the salaries earned by the approximately 2,000 people who work at the Bureau of Public Debt, the department that borrows the money to keep the federal government running. This could drain even more money from local economies and the states' tax bases.

Sky-High Mortgage and Interest Rates - If the government defaults, interest rates on mortgages would shoot up and homebuyers and small businesses would have trouble getting loans even if they could afford the higher interest.
Good thing the GOP is hell bent on protecting the wealthiest of Americans from having to pay a little more in Taxes. This is what they want to do to America. They are so blinded by power that they are willing to let this country default on the bills it owes.

Something is very wrong here. For today, I don't know what else to say.

Morning, comrades!

Hell, I wouldn't want the Koch Boys to have to pay for their Citation X. After all, I would like something pretty to look at while we're living under the bridge by the airport eating cat food.

It really pisses me off what the GOP is willing to do to this nation in order to protect the wealthiest among us. I just don't know what more to say to people who are still willing to support this.

Paul Ryan had to actually PAY for a 350 dollar bottle of wine... I'm just shaking my head...

In case you missed it, This is the story.
As TPM reported Friday, Ryan says he decided to pay for one of the bottles of wine after being confronted by Feinberg out of an abundance of caution. Ryan's office provided TPM with a copy of his credit card receipt. Congressional ethics rules bar congressman from receiving gifts from lobbyists and gifts of over $100 from anyone.
Let me put this out there. 350 multiplied by 52 (weeks in a year) is 18,200 dollars.

Ryan's medicare plan wants to give seniors an 8 Thousand Dollar medicaid voucher per year.

Such a program averages out to about $153.50 dollars a week for seniors afford healthcare. He spent more than that on a bottle of wine -- and that is because he was caught.

That story got me really pissed too, Mala. HE was with LOBBYISTS.

OK now, listening to TRMS. Is it just me, or is the GOP channeling President Hoover?

Everything they are doing, everything they have proposed...is making things worse.

But I'm with Raine on this one; there are people out there that still believe in this stuff? I really have nothing more to say, other than the obvious.

Speaking of the Koch Brothers. Georgia Pacfic (yeah owned by them) wants to run an effluent pipe from their papermill in Baker County right into the middle of the St Johns river. This instead of doing mitigation of the polution the plant creates at about the same cost as the pipeline. You see dilution of their dixon laden waste water into a heritage river is better than treating the waste water. For more infromation check out The St Johns River Keeper

Ok, caller -- DEAP BREATH --

Has anyone been able to find when EXACTLY the President said Social Security is on the table wrt budget talks?

No I am not joking here. WHERE did he say that?

Comment by TriSec on 07/11/2011 14:58:01
Lovely.

My friends in Nova Scotia depend on the Bowater mill for their livelihoods. (Liverpool, NS.) I've been there; it's right on the Mersey River at the bay. All their Dioxin is stored on-site in trailers...until they figure out what to do with it.

But hey, like you said, if it costs the same to treat it or dump it, let's do the easier of the two. And they'll probably get a tax break to build the outflow pipe, too.

I am trying to refrain from what I see will be some very typical responses.

I am pretty sure that What I just heard from POTUS is that the can not get what he wants due to political restraints. *sigh*

Good day everyone. I've really wish at this point that people would wake up and throw these GOP scum-suckers out of office, they have declared class warfare on us and they shouldn't be in power if they only represent the top 1%.

Comment by Raine on 07/11/2011 15:55:13
This is why POTUS is saying such nice things about Boehner.

Ever see what lions do to the heard of Antelope?

Comment by Raine on 07/11/2011 16:03:41
What I find amazing is that POTUS basically said -- if we are going to do this, let's go big, let's go long.

In this idea, he is calling the GOP's bluff, and they just don;t know how the hell to govern at all.

It will be interesting to see what the Dem Leadership has to say this afternoon.

I will admit, there was a lot of Triangulation in this presser, but I appreciate the fact that he has laid the gauntlet down.

Someone just pointed interview to me on Facebook: At 4:53 mark:
"With respect to Social Security and Medicare, my core principle is anything that strengthens Social Security and Medicare and makes sure that it's there for the next generation, I'm for. Anything that dismantles it, weakens it, hurts current beneficiaries, in ways that are fundamentally unfair, that's not something I will accept. But what we do have to make sure of is as the population's getting older and more people are going into Social Security and Medicare, that those programs are preserved and intact and that they're fully paid for."

Hello, bloggers!!

I hope that there is no reduction in benefits, as I know people who need those programs. If Obama does not support Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security -- the three great social program achievements of the Democratic Party in the last 80 years -- many people will have little desire to do much in 2012.

TriSec, can you contact me on Facebook? I have a few questions on possibly teaching in your state.

Don't confuse Sikhs with Muslims

Look, I realize that sounds terrible the way I've posted it...so just read the story. "Collateral Damage" springs readily to mind, alas.

I've had the pleasure of knowing but one Sikh; I have never met anyone more dignified and honorable than he.

Of course he's going to support them. The current meme that he won't has been ginned up by RW operatives posing as LW "progressive" firebrands, and repeated ad nauseum by people addicted to outrage.

I wonder if we will see some more traffic here from the Alexandria-Citizens Daily link. Is there a way to check tomorrow if traffic is up here?
