Today is Election Day
Author: Raine    Date: 02/18/2008 13:32:06

Big election today. It may have been easy to forget about it. It hasn't really been on the news, at least not in America. Approximately a thousand people are in Pakistan to monitor the elections. Europe has sent 112 Union obseververs to monitor the elections. America is being represented as well, by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Sen. Joseph Biden, Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Chuck Hagel. Sadly, one would think that after sending more than 10 billion dollars in Aid to fight the Waronterra™, we would have more than 4 representatives from America. Even that almost did not happen.

In just the past week, there have been some voter intimidation issues...
Voting is underway in Pakistan's legislative elections, in a tense climate marked by fears of violence and fraud. The ballot should have taken place last month but was delayed after the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The country is still reeling from her murder and campaigning has been low key because of concerns over security.

A suicide attack on supporters of Bhutto's party killed 47 people in a town near the Afghan border on Saturday. Overnight, five people, including an opposition candidate, were killed by gunmen in Lahore.
And yes, Bhutto's assassination was the ultimate in Voter intimidation.

Will Musharaff Play fair? Will the Administration do anything about it if he doesn't? These are very important questions that must be asked. We here in America ask the very same question every primary or caucus nowadays. It may not have been widely reported at the time, but the day that Benazir Bhutto was murdered, she was set to announce that she had proof of election rigging.

America has done little to nothing to prevent a rigged election (here OR abroad). It simply does not benefit this administration's foriegn policy. That is a sad indictment of America. As we march around the world touting Freedom and Democracy, we show it little or nothing more than lip service.

So, there will be no watching the returns tonite on American TV, there will be no talk of Pakistani superdelegates. We won't be hearing about precinct returns. There will be no fancy studios, with pundits trading barbs. But, I for one, will be praying that the will of the people of Pakistan get the freedom and democracy that they truly deserve. I pray thay have clean & fair elections.

They have given so much in their fight for freedom from dictatorship. If they win, we win and Musharaff's stranglehold on a country can be released. I do not like America enabling a dictator. It is antithetical to everything we as a nation should be standing for. Freedom can be achieved, I still believe that.

:peace: and

Mornin' Raine,

Thank you for expanding our myopic self absorbed political view beyond our shores this morning and helping us to remember that America is not the center of the universe. I am sending good thoughts to the people of Pakistan today for a safe, fair and honest election. Hope you are having a good morning - did you escape the bad weather that hit the southern part of the country yesterday? Hope all is well.

Take care.

Cheers,

mfaye

Rush Limpballs said the same thing. Glenn Beck has gotten on Media Matters hit list a few times for sexually harrasing his on-air guests. He also used to flirt with anchor Erica Hill. I wonder if that's why she moved over to the main network?

Hey VJ - congrats on the paycheck and health insurance! My temp agency has an insurance plan too. Good thing is that after I hit 40 hours (which I did last week) it kicks in and, whether I'm working for them or not, I can still pay for it. Not overly pricey - about $100ish a month.

btw, if you need an actress for your films, I'll send you my res and head shot!

Since it's been on the list for about a month and a half, do I have dickering space? He was asking for $175 - I was thinking of trying to get him down to around $125. Should I start the dickering at $100?

I really would like for them to be on the ground and meeting the people at this point.

The debates while I have found them informative, make me a little ill as they are nothing more than a capitalistic money making issue for the news channels.

Debates tkae time that could be better utilized by having the candidates on the ground and in town hall meetings.

I don't mind having a few more, but I am, I am truly debated out.

Raine,

I just sent the following e-mail into Producer Chris - don't hink he'll refer to it on the air, but I think it is a point worth considering...

Christopher,

You know that I lurve you (you are on my mythical future husbands list), but I've got to go with Momma on the debate issue. Doesn't it strike you as odd that the Hillary Camp is clamouring for more debates (ie free publicity as their coffers are drying up)? It would be a skosh more convincing if this had been a concern of the Clintons all along, rather than a recent response to their lack of cash. I'm just saying...

Cheers,

I agree with that very much Faye. At one point we need to realize that a lot of what the Clinton campaign is doing is becuase they are now not leading in the polls.

When a campaign manager quits like Doyle did and says it is becuase she didn't plan on still managing after supertuesday, it tells me that there are a lot bigger issues going on in that campaign, and all a debate is, is indeed free publicity.

I find it suspect.

The Nova pheonix stream is fine here.

I can't figure out how to get NovaM stream to work - they seem to want me to pay for it. I just switched to WCPT back in Chicago.

Weird feeling that.

PAY?!?! That doesn't sound right. you have clicked on the link we have down in the link section?

From there you should be able to pick the stream that fits your media player.

They keep asking me to sign in as a member of the founders club which costs money.

Do they stream Thom or air him delayed? I usually stream via AAR, but I'd use a different one if I had a choice.

No argument from me on this. As I've been envisioning the potential startup of a Pittsburgh progressive station, one of the items on my list is a Noon to three radio show. Since Thom is already booked up on station and has been there for many years - even before his affiliation with AAR - the only radio show I'm aware of for that slot would be Schlitz.

Good evening, folks!

Your Loyal TriSec and crew back here in lovely Waltham, MA.

Mrs. TriSec did not run screaming from the small towns of Belfast and Camden, Maine...and we found things like a brand-new elementary school, lovely new housing (as well as some cool-looking older places), important stuff like the hospital and doctors and dentist, and "ordinary" things like the Rite-Aid, Hannaford, and the all-important Dunkin' Donuts...

All in a tiny little fishing village that brought a wee tear to my eye, since it was vaguely reminiscent of my favorite place on Earth, that being Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

I'll be checking in with HR tomorrow to see where the process stands, and I have advised Mrs. TriSec to switch her classic TV viewing habits...from "I Love Lucy" to "Green Acres".

This is really looking possible.

I remember Thom Hartmann saying back during Iowa that the camps seemed to be divided between those who supported Hillary and those who opposed Hillary. It was interesting that the people supporting any of the other candidates (Obama, Edwards, Kucinich, Dodd, Richardson, etc.) did not have Hillary as their second, third, or even fourth choice. With all the other candidates (except Gravel who no one notices) out of the race, it seems like anyone who supported someone other than Hillary has gravitated to Obama.

I believe you are totally politically incorrect INCORRECT. She does not have children (I think) so that would make her a "cougar" not a MILF.

details include Bill wrapping his arms arond Dick in the WH kitchen and pushing dick to thefloor....

Hillary coming in and saying that Bill only acts that way to people he cares about.

Hillary pulling the two apart, adn hillary walking Dick around the white house lawn talking him down.

Take from it what you will, this is what dick said.

OMg... NOW, I ma really going to bed... When Hillary Clinton becomes a satire of the Cup Chicks... it it over, man.

End game... And please, do not ask me how I know.

This video when Satire is removed is a response to the Hillary for you and Me video that I posted last week.

However, I suspect this video is entirely laden with satire. Or, I am the biggest perv you have EVER met in your life.

You may google for any more information, I know nothing more. That is my sotry, and I am sticking to it.
