Monday Question -- About apologies.
Author: Raine    Date: 05/14/2012 13:05:08

Quick question for this Monday Morning -- Would you rather have a President who fessed up and said I am sorry for something really stupid in the past, or would you rather have a man say "I am sorry if I hurt anyone but I don't remember the incident"?

Who would you respect more? Who would you find more trustworthy? For example, from 2000:
Texas Gov. George W. Bush acknowledged Thursday that in 1976 he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his parents' home in Kennebunkport, Maine.Bush, who was 30 at the time, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and his driving privileges were temporarily suspended in Maine.

Compare to this:
“I’m not going to be too concerned about their piece they talk about the fact that I played a lot of pranks in high school and they describe some that well you just say to yourself, back in high school well I did some dumb things and if anybody was hurt by that or offended obviously I apologize but overall high school years were a long time ago,” said Romney in an interview on Kilmeade and Friends radio show about his years at the Cranbook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Is it apples and oranges? What do you think? Does one incident tell us that much about a person? Or does the way they handle the aftermath, and the apology tell us about the person? I am aware that people make mistakes, but at what point do we look at how they handle those mistakes and judge? These are people who ran for the most powerful office in the country -- do these things matter?

Or, is it a case where --as Maya Angelou once said, “The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.” ?...

Morning

Its the "if", to me that mean's I'm not sorry I did it, I'm sorry I got caught and you didn't like what I did.

Question - when you hear someone went to Liberty U do you dismiss (not the right word I think) what they are saying when it comes to them stating "facts"?

did that make sense?

it is - "Liberty University is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC) to award degrees at associate, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist and doctoral levels."

but Phoenix University also says its accredited and I don't especially trust that either

Liberty's athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are collectively known as the Liberty Flames.

Liberty was founded in 1971 and received Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation in 1980, which was most recently reaffirmed in 2006. In addition, it was accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) in September 1984, but resigned its TRACS accreditation on November 6, 2008. Liberty has 60 accredited degree granting programs. The law school, which opened in August 2004, gained provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association on February 13, 2006. On December 9, 2009, Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. announced that "Liberty University has received Level VI accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This is the highest classification from SACS and is reserved for colleges and universities that offer four or more doctoral degrees. The law school received ABA accreditation on August 5th 2010.

Wow...

This story comes from Miami-Dade County, where Trayvon Martin’s mom, Sybrina Fulton is a public employee. You know the “enemy” according to Rick Scott and Scott Walker? It seems that around Mothers Day, Fulton’s co-workers felt she needed time to mourn. It was then that they began collecting paid vacation time. And donate they did. According to the Miami Herald, 192 co-workers contributed vacation time allowing the county to give Fulton a gift: Eight months of paid vacation to mourn her son. Trayvon’s parents have already started a foundation, the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation aimed at repealing “Stand Your Ground” laws. The foundation has also stated they plan to seek repeal of “Castle Doctrine” laws, such as the one that lets Adam Kind run free after killing Bo Morrison in Wisconsin in a case equally as disgusting. Additionally they plan to teach conflict resolution in schools to help avoid violent situations altogether.

Character also shows us how people will likely perform during a crisis. There is perhaps no more stressful job than the President of the United States. Quite literally, the President's decision can impact our entire country and the world.

“We welcome the Obama campaign’s attempt to pivot back to jobs and a discussion of their failed record. Mitt Romney helped create more jobs in his private sector experience and more jobs as Governor of Massachusetts than President Obama has for the entire nation," she said. “President Obama has many questions to answer as to why his administration used the stimulus to reward wealthy campaign donors with taxpayer money for bad ideas like Solyndra, but 23 million Americans are still struggling to find jobs. If the Obama administration was less concerned about pleasing their wealthy donors and more concerned about creating jobs, America would be much better off. ”

Good day, folks. Yesterday was a brutal fest for me at work since I was doing Nationals-Reds for MASN 2 and first there was the lovely 3 and a half hour rain delay since he it seems like they were determined to get the game in so we finally had first pitch at 4:45 and then the game went over 3 and a half hours and just avoided extra innings with a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth (which was also how the Mets lost yesterday). So instead of getting out at 6:30 with a last hour, I got out at 9:15 but at least they bought me dinner. Speaking of MASN, they do show Liberty University games on that channel during the fall and winter months along with the other college games that they do. And let's not forget Pat Robertson's school in Virginia Beach which is like Liberty but without the competitive athletic program.

C-SPAN is running Romney's speech at Liberty before they show Obama giving the commencement at Barnard.

Found it!
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICH. (c. 1965) -- ARREST- CHARGE NOT KNOWN.
ROMNEY was arrested along with future wife Ann Davies for actions in connection with practical joke at Cranbrook Academy. Reportedly ROMNEY and several friends "bought huge blocks of ice from the local gas station, laid towels over them, and went sliding down the slopes of a nearby golf course."7

HUNTSVILLE, UTAH (2002) -- USE OF PROFANITY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT
On February 10, 2002, while overseeing 2002 Winter Olympics, ROMNEY became extremely angry upon encountering a traffic jam at a venue and proceeded to berate two persons authorized to direct traffic there, including with obscenity laced tirades, according to a police captain at the scene and a volunteer targeted by ROMNEY. The traffic volunteer Shaun Knopp stated that ROMNEY "asked me who the f___ I was and what the f___ I was doing. We got the Olympics going on we don't need this s___ down here."8 Weber County Sheriff's Office Capt. Terry Shaw, commander of the Snowbasin venue, stated that ROMNEY twice used the F-word while also berating one of his officers, Deputy Kodi Taggart. Capt. Shaw stated that ROMNEY "was abusive" to his officer and advised, unsuccessfully, that "he needs to apologize."9 ROMNEY denied part of the allegation, insisting he hadn't used the F-word since high school -- but admitted he used a word he described as "H-E-double hockey sticks." Disposition: The Utah Department of Safety advised it had decided against initiating a "profanity probe."

FABIAN, ALAN: Until August 2007, FABIAN was a national finance committee co-chair for ROMNEY. Now under federal indictment for mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury, obstruction of justice and defrauding companies of $32 million in Maryland.11

GARRITY, JAY (a/k/a "Trooper"): Until July 2007, GARRITY provided security and advance for ROMNEY whom he codenamed "LXX"; GARRITY now under investigation in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for impersonating a police officer and other charges.

Hey gang.

Close to home with this one....for all my current glory in Scouting, I harbor a dark secret.

Shortly before coming to Waltham and essentially starting over, I resigned from my position in my home unit in Saugus. I was the adult in charge of a trip that went south and we lost two scouts for about an hour. Fortunately, it was a canoe trip on the river, so there was only one way they could go, but they were separated from the fleet and nobody knew where they were.

As the adult in charge, I took the blame, apologized to the parents of the scouts, worked with the committee to ensure it never happened again, and then pretty much left at the end of the season.

So from first-hand experience....I'd rather believe that no matter how much of a tool GW is, he did at least do the right thing with this example.
