To this observer, ABC's coverage seemed slanted against Obama. The director cut several times to reaction shots of such Clinton supporters as her daughter, Chelsea, who sat in the audience at the Kimmel Theater in Philly's National Constitution Center. Obama supporters did not get equal screen time, giving the impression that there weren't any in the hall. The director also clumsily chose to pan the audience at the very start of the debate, when the candidates made their opening statements, so Obama and Clinton were barely seen before the first commercial break.
At the end, Gibson pompously thanked the candidates -- or was he really patting himself on the back? -- for "what I think has been a fascinating debate." He's entitled to his opinion, but the most fascinating aspect was waiting to see how low he and Stephanopoulos would go, and then being appalled at the answer.

That wasn't a debate last night, it was a debacle. With one of the most important elections in our lifetime approaching, and *important* issues facing every American (such as the economy, the war in Iraq, Corporatism, etc.), close to 3/4 of the time was spent on non-issues like reverends, flag pins, Bosnia tales, and the "bitter" comments.
We deserved better. We *needed* better.
Shame.

That was exactly why when you refer to the media....as 'mainstream media' you're playing into the hands of the corporatocracy....
They aren't 'mainstream'....they are the CM, CORPORATE MEDIA. 5 companies that do nothing but wax poetic about the evil driven machinations of the uber wealthy ruling class and castigate those who would dare oppose the wealthy aristocracy and and endlessly broadcast their propaganda. They do this to further the wealth gap and create a permanent 'me society' or as Busheviks/'free marketists' refer to it an 'ownership society'....
That's very amusing coming from the man who has displayed no talent other than running his pyramid scheme corporations into bankruptcy and abrogation.

Wassup with the CafePress shop? Do you make money from the stuff?
I have a couple of t-shirts, but I am always nervouse to sell them because of Intellectual Property stuff.
Like the IHelen Thomas tee is awesome, but am I allowed to use her name???
"Screw 'em," she told her husband. "You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them."
The statement -- which author Benjamin Barber witnessed and wrote about in his book, "The Truth of Power: Intellectual Affairs in the Clinton White House" -- was prompted by another speaker raising the difficulties of reaching "Reagan Democrats." It stands in stark contrast to the attitude the New York Democrat has recently taken on the campaign trail, in which she has presented herself as the one candidate who understands the working-class needs.
"I don't think [Obama] really gets it that people are looking for a president who stands up for you and not looks down on you," she said this week.
But those who were at the event say the 1995 episode fits into her larger viewpoint. As Harry Boyte, the director of the University of Minnesota's Center for Democracy and Citizenship who was at the retreat, told The Huffington Post: "[Hillary Clinton] sees herself as the champion of the oppressed, but there is always a kind of good guy versus bad guy mentality. The comment before that was that 'the Reagan Democrats are our enemies and they weren't on our side,' and she was agreeing with that comment. She said we should write them off: screw them."
Quote by livingonli:
I have had a problem with the Clintons even when Bill was President because of the whole centrist DLC things which meant there was no real undoing of the Reagan/Bush I policies and then we had the disaster that was Bush II which will hopefully discredit conservative policies for at least another generation.
We need another FDR.

Sarge also seemed to hint that NovaM would like to lure Sam over as well. I want to see either Sam get Randi's slot or if they don't give him a daily show again that he is able to jump over to NovaM

But with the bidding, you can sometimes get more money through eBay. I really can't believe what some people will buy. And this is from a guy who has TV Guides going back to the 1950's. Even my comics only go back to the mid-1960's. Then again even the early 1960's books are too expensive for me.

If you have 1960's comics I wouldn't do them on ebay, I'd go to a reputable dealer or two to get estimates on there worth.
Granted sometimes you get more money on ebay. Ebay has fees you have to pay though so they take a cut of what you earn. You just have to watch those so they don't take advantage. I think there are other auction sites that are better about that you just have to research them.

Nice opening, Raine. I think I mentioned the giant messy pant-load nature of the 280,000 debates thus far this year. I also mentioned that there hasn't been a real, substantive debate since the farcical Debate Commission came into being and booting the League of Woman Voters out of the picture.
All of the debates this year have been shallow Roman bread & circus info-tainment that don't and will not provide any intelligent discussion of the real issues. So, my question is this: why put yourself through the agony of watching these farces

No, they're probably not. But, they are paying attention to FlagPinGate, etc. And, after 1 weekend of not watching, reading I had no clue about BitterGate and would have been rendered somewhat defenseless had someone pressed me on that.
Of course, I could just bring it back to "Does Obama not saying bitter put food on the table? No. Okay, than let's move on."

Q: Dave, will you protect my right as a Floridian to own and operate Russian military helicopters with full missile, cannon and bomb capabilities?
A: As I read the Constitution, all of these items are specifically mentioned in the second amendment.

Q: Dave, as an elitist man of the people, is it wise to call a small-town crowd of gun-toting, religious zealots "bitter?"
Submitted by Chuck Ben-Hur from Altoona, PA
A: I can totally relate to the residents of small mill towns. When the mill in my town closed down, I was devastated, because up to that point I didn't even realize we had a mill. "What the hell were we milling?" I asked. But by then it was too late. So I became bitter and turned to crack guns and religion.

Q: As a normal woman of the female gender, I wear a Size 8. When shopping lately, I have found, to my dismay that the jeans have zippers that are so short as to have only 1 tooth, and the sizes go from 0 to sub-atomic. When you are president, will you please send the so-called fashion designers to a place where they will be forced to make real-sized clothes for real women with waists at the waist and not at the private area line. Will you make them design clothes in REAL sizes? I will send you a sample of one of the pair of jeans I saw on the rack. Look for a post card, the postage stamp is the jeans.
Submitted by Size 8 from JC Penneys
A: I know what you mean. In Miami, where I live, women are wearing their jeans basically at knee level. It is wonderful very alarming.

Study: 300,000 US troops from Iraq, Afghanistan have mental problems, 320,000 brain injuries

Some 300,000 U.S. troops are suffering from major depression or post traumatic stress from serving in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and 320,000 received brain injuries, a new study estimates.
Only about half have sought treatment, said the study released Thursday by the RAND Corporation.
"There is a major health crisis facing those men and women who have served our nation in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Terri Tanielian, the project's co-leader and a researcher at the nonprofit RAND.
"Unless they receive appropriate and effective care for these mental health conditions, there will be long-term consequences for them and for the nation," she said in an interview with The Associated Press.
The 500-page study is the first large-scale, private assessment of its kind — including a survey of 1,965 service members across the country, from all branches of the armed forces and including those still in the military as well veterans who have left the services.
