FLOTUS doesn't suffer hecklers lightly:
“One of the things that I don’t do well is this,” she said to applause from most of the guests, according to a White House transcript. “Do you understand?”

A pool report from a reporter in the room said Obama “left the lectern and moved over to the protester.” The pool report quoted Obama as saying: “Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

The proposed executive order that prompted Sturtz’s outburst would prohibit federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

LGBT activists, many of whom hailed Obama for his vocal support for same-sex marriage rights in the months leading up to his reelection in 2012, have been increasingly dismayed that the White House has not yet acted on the proposed order.
With a DOMA decision from SCOTUS only a few days away, there is no way President Obama will sign an executive order granting rights to people that could be taken away the first day of a republican presidency.

I'll be back with more.

Way to go WaPo! At the bottom of the story you posted Raine, there is a slide show of Michelle Obama fashion icon.

I found that strange and uncomfortable.

Morning

As soon as FLOTUS said "Do you understand me" I bet that lady shrank to 2 inches tall in her seat.

But seriously, heckling the First Lady, any First Lady, is rather rude and over the line

Good morning, bloggers!!

Raine, I fear that we long ago rejected civility in our public dialog. The First Lady may have more influence on the President than almost anyone else, but she is not a political figure.

To be honest I did find it sexist -- and thought perhaps I was being too sensitive -- so I left it as strange and uncomfortable.

I am glad to see it wasn't me. They could have had a slide show of Michelle and her 'Let's Move' campaign -- her gardening, works with shelters, vets, etc...

It is also not lost on me that there are a lot of people out there who have declared her as wrong for taking down said heckler -- I suspect these are the same people that Just LOVE when shit like this happens: Just google the phrase Things like this:

"You're a real big shot," Christie shouted at the man. "You're a real big shot shooting your mouth off."

"Just take care of the teachers," the man responded.

Christie then marched towards the man, yelling at him to "keep walkin' away ... keep walkin'."
he celebrates his assholery:

THIS:
It was the determined tone of a woman who, swear to God, will turn this car around RIGHT NOW if you can’t control yourselves. I don’t know where Sturtz went after her tussle, but I’d have instinctively gone straight to my room.
Was what I thought as well.

That was Momma Michelle dealing with petulance.

I do however disagree with this part of that article:
We see it again and again, and never satisfyingly. Last summer, a comedy club patron enticed Daniel Tosh to make some very unfortunate remarks about rape – an event that was set in motion the woman decided, “I felt that sitting there and saying nothing, or leaving quietly, would have been against my values as a person and as a woman.” In other words, much like Sturtz, she decided that her values should be made known to everyone in the audience, because they were more important than anything anybody else was saying or doing. Certainly more important than what the person the rest of the assembly had paid their money to see was saying and doing.
Perhaps I am being a hypocrite here, but advocating rape -- and protesting it is a hellova lot different than what happened here.

A woman paid to see Tosh -- she didn't pay to listen to rape jokes. and to be honest, while I believe the author of the salon article is writing from an honest perspective, it is a bad comparison.

What happened here was a 500 dollar private fundraising event -- private. It wasn't a campaign rally -- and she wasn't arrested.
The mother of a soldier killed in Iraq was arrested Thursday after interrupting a campaign speech by first lady Laura Bush. As police hauled her away, she shouted, "Police brutality."

Wearing a T-shirt with the message "President Bush You Killed My Son," Sue Niederer of nearby Hopewell screamed questions at the first lady as the audience tried to drown her out by chanting, "Four more years! Four more years!"

She pressed on, refused to leave and eventually police removed her from the firehouse rally.
Interestingly:
Outside the hall, she said she had a ticket and asked why she was being arrested. She was told by police she had entered a private event and had refused to leave, the Trenton Times reported.

The Tosh comparison is a bit labored. I do like the I'll turn this fund-raiser around if you kids don't stop acting up idea is very apt.

A building in Philadephia has collapsed. At the moment, 11 people have been rescued, two more remain trapped. Coverage here.

When I clicked the link, I recognized the Salvation Army store as one the family and I visited in 2011. We were all there for a conference Mrs. C was attending, and Ian and I visited the shop as we were walking about. He left his pug toy in the SA while we were looking around, and when I realized he had forgotten it, we had to race ten blocks back to retrieve it before it closed for the day.

It depends on if the producer made sure the skyper's mic levels are correct.

I know it's hard to tell that Bernie Sanders actually calls in on Skype. His and Thom's staff made sure things we sounding correctly. This caller on Pap is pretty bad.

My company has gone thermo-nuclear on the minority that smokes. They were asked nicely to smoke in the only designated area that Facilities set up (half of the back "porch") did they stay there? No they invaded the non-smoking half of the porch. I saw two women there last week under the NO SMOKING SIGNS, smoking. So, as of Monday this week they are out by the standby generator, in the parking lot with no cover from the elements. Take away here is follow the rules and play nice.

They will be power washing the porch area to remove the fine film of tar and smoke particles too.
