Let's see. A-Roid's coming to town. Tebow's hex on the Patriots may continue tonight and oh......wonder if RemDog will have anything to say on this tonight.

I see Waltham is trending on Twitter.

This is kinda sad for Red Sox Nation.

Seems as though his son was fired from the Sox a few years ago:
The major league inquiry began after State Police confiscated a vial of steroids from the car of Nicholas Alex Cyr, a securi ty staffer who was returning from a Red Sox-related event just before last year’s All-Star break in mid-July. Cyr told police he had bought the drug from Remy, the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy.

Jared Remy denied being the supplier, but acknowledged in interviews with the Globe that he has been a steroid user.

Before they were fired, both men were first suspended and questioned about whether the drug was being used by Red Sox players.

I drove by this scene on the way home from the store last night. Locally, it was only reported as a routine murder (if there is such a thing)...apparently the gory details have come out since I got to Worcester.

This is not a good thing, I'm afraid.

(And this is all my fault. Didn't I make an observation yesterday that the Sox were just starting to look like they had staying power? Lead down to 2 games, and now this. Friggin' baseball gods!!)

I am secretly rooting for the Yankees to get back into it, into the playoffs, maybe as far as the WS. Only to see A-Rod get suspended once his hearing comes up. MLB's massive black eye from that would be so amusing and well deserved.

So I've been trying to digest what I saw on the front page of WaPo today. It got me seriously depressed.

And then I read this from Bob Cesca. and I had a facepalm moment.

An internal Audit IS OVERSIGHT.
I agree that mistakes involving sensitive information like the communications of American citizens should be taken seriously and corrected. Clearly, based on the existence of this internal audit, NSA is doing precisely that: taking its errors seriously and repairing them. For the first time in the history of this story, we have the only evidence of actual wrongdoing within NSA (other than Snowden’s document theft), although the article doesn’t call out any deliberate or malicious violations of the rules. The infractions only appear to be unintentional, incidental glitches in the system, which could easily be discovered in any internal audit — be it within a large governmental agency that employs thousands of people, or a private corporation of the same size. We also have no frame of reference to determine whether 2,776 errors in a year is atypical for a large government agency. How many errors per year are generally discovered by internal audits at FBI, ATF, FAA or IRS? Gellman doesn’t say. Considering the size of each bureaucracy, I refuse to believe any government audit document is a slender volume.

And the final sentence in response to a tweet from Greenwald kinda says it all:

http://banter.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/greenwald_nsa_audit_tweet.jpg
Why would NSA whitewash a top secret internal audit? To presumably lie to itself?

That Snowden threw his own father and his lawyer under the bus, that GG has been accused by Snowden father as shopping the interview for 7 figures, that Snowden was working for Dell when he started stealing government documents tells me that this isn't about the NSA.

Does the NSA need to be reeled in? Sure -- but this story isn't what it portends to be.

You know, when you don't live in a big city and your town/county/area is featured in the news, it's a pretty scary thing. Last night, Rachel Maddow talked about North Carolina's voter restrictions and how it's affected two universities in the state. It opened with footage of Monday's electoral board meeting from Watauga County, but the end piece about a former student at an HBC in Elizabeth City being denied the opportunity to run for office in the town is even more of a jaw dropper.

Okay how awesome is this. My coworker and fellow nerd is an enrolled member of the Chippewa tribe and has the card to prove it. So, he can literally race-card you.

I heard that this morning. So a dude lives in town, pays his taxes there, registers to vote there, but because he's a student he doesn't exist?

I really got nuthin' on this. I love the Tarheel State, but this is crazy tawk.

(And I can only imagine if similar things happened in my neck of the woods....between Bentley and Brandeis, easily 1/3 of the total Waltham population is students. This really is institutional disenfranchisement on a grand scale, isn't it?)

Oh, and by the way.....he's BLACK!

I've got to take a friend to the doctor's this afternoon -- I am currently deep down a rabbit hole in writing the blog today.

It will happen -- even if it is later on.

A caller accused John of being a racist apologist for the rodeo incident.

(it a little more complicated than that -- but that's basically the gist of it.)

The weird thing about WGN America is how it tries to conceal its identity as a Chicago station except when they are simulcasting WGN's local newscasts or during Cubs, White Sox, and Bulls games where the Chicago identity is prevalent.

They seem to be realizing that they are only appealing to the most insane Americans. Especially if their idea of moderators are Limbaugh and Hannity.
