It was hard to miss the news item yesterday, despite the 5 minutes it garnered before slipping away again. The DC Madam "committed suicide" in a shed behind her mother's house. This is the same DC madam that had names and dirt on a lot of powerful DC insiders according to news reports:
The so-called "D.C. Madam" vowed she would never go to federal prison for running a high-end Washington prostitution ring. Not even for a day.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey made good on that promise Thursday when she went to a shed outside her mother's mobile home and hanged herself from a rafter with nylon rope.

The 52-year-old Palfrey was convicted two weeks ago of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite, including Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican. She was free while she awaited sentencing on July 24.

Her 76-year-old mother, Blanche Palfrey, found the body in the tiny shed outside the pink and white mobile home in the community of mostly retirees in this Gulf Coast town 20 miles northwest of Tampa

The news spin on this is that she said "she'd never go to jail". What they're failing to report is that she also said she'd never commit suicide, and if it appeared she did, it wouldn't be true:
DC Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey predicted she would be "suicided" on several occasions both recently and as far back as 17 years ago - comments that now appear ominous in light of the announcement that the former head of a Washington escort service allegedly killed herself today.

"If taken into custody, my physical safety and most probably my very life would be jeopardized," she wrote in August 1991 following an attempt to bring her to trial, "Rape, beating, maiming, disfigurement and more than likely murder disguised in the form of just another jailhouse accident or suicide would await me," said Palfrey in a handwritten letter to the judge accusing the San Diego police vice squad of having a vendetta against her.

During several recent appearances on The Alex Jones Show, Palfrey also said that she was at risk of being killed and that authorities would make it look like suicide. She made it clear that she was not suicidal and if she was found dead it would be murder.

Palfrey had threatened to release the names of well-known clients of her upscale call girl ring in the nation’s capitol, and had indicated that Dick Cheney may be one of them.

(audio clips at the link)

But our government would never do that right?... right?...

There have been several reports of whistleblowers, reporters, and others killed in "muggings gone bad" over the last 6 years or so (although I wasn't able to quickly find the news items). However, there's another news item that seems rather serendipitous in juxtaposition with this one. It seems that there have been a lot of "burglaries" of targets of US Attorneys:
In two states where US attorneys are already under fire for serious allegations of political prosecutions, seven people associated with three federal cases have experienced 10 suspicious incidents including break-ins and arson.

These crimes raise serious questions about possible use of deliberate intimidation tactics not only because of who the victims are and the already wide criticism of the prosecutions to begin with, but also because of the suspicious nature of each incident individually as well as the pattern collectively. Typically burglars do not break-into an office or private residence only to rummage through documents, for example, as is the case with most of the burglaries in these two federal cases.

In Alabama, for instance, the home of former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman was burglarized twice during the period of his first indictment. Nothing of value was taken, however, and according to the Siegelman family, the only items of interest to the burglars were the files in Siegelman's home office.

Siegelman's attorney experienced the same type of break-in at her office.

(MUCH more at the link)

Perhaps these types of things have been going on for more than just Bush's presidency, and we only know about them now because of the power of the internet.

Perhaps...

But with this regime looking at a "drop dead" date, and the potential for all its dirty secrets being revealed by a Democratic president, combined with Blackwater that is looking to "increase business", I am more than a little concerned that there will be under-the-table contracts and even more dirty business to come.

The time for vigilance is now more than ever.

Whoa. Bobber with the tin foil squarely in place!

Well, I think that the "Madam" probably did commit suicide. However, in these times of lies and deception............ we may never know the truth and must always be suspicious.

If only we could have an HONEST President, one that inspires HOPE! A real SUPER HERO.

Good morning, bloggers!!

I hope that everyone is well. (I have a late start as a substitute teacher today, so I thought I would swing by.)

I think the points made by many here are important: we can no longer take what happens or is said at face value. In a time where political agendas trump responsible law enforcement in the Justice Department, no one knows what to believe.

Credibility is critical to honest government, and the Bush administration has less credibility than the chronic liar played by Jon Lovitz on Saturday Night Live. Even when they may be telling the truth, we tend to assume that the Bush administration is lying - as it has done ad nauseum.

By the way, the Daily Headlines are up over at UNN.

Sydney Biddle Barrows - she operated out of NY was probably a level or two above the DC Madam. Plus she came from a really upper class Philly family so if something happened to her there would have been lots of questions. I don't know that the Mayflower Madams client list ever got out though.

Morning Mala. Heidi Fleiss was largely show biz types since she was based in Hollywood. Although she might have also had some local politicos in the LA area.

Since Mayflower Madam was upscale I'm sure she had her share of politicians as well but she probably also had plenty of other upscale New York clients.

The fact that she might have faced a bigger sentence than the other two seems to think that the DC Madam was singled out.

Local radio host Doug McIntyre was talking about the Discovery Channel show this morning. It was filmed in an eco-friendly house and it seems it turned into a scene reminiscent of a really bad Christmas dinner with the in-laws. Tampers flared as the group ate vegetarian food and listened to Mary Lou Retton carry on about how people should be drinking orangutan milk, which I gather was only a minor blip in the idiotic chatter in the room. Is it any wonder that under all the pressure, Stephanie tried to strangle Doug. Not really. Now he is jokingly threatening to hire Gloria Allred and sue her. Little does he know he'll be inheriting a box wine collection and a defunct vacuum system.

Glen Greewald Agrees with me.

Play with O' Rielly, and you will get burned....

“Anything you do to try to help Fox will be turned against either or both of them,” said Brave New Films’ Robert Greenwald, who created the 2004 film “Outfoxed” and continues to uncover evidence of Fox News’ emphasis on Republican views.

In the first part of Clinton’s interview with O’Reilly, which aired Wednesday night, she said she “expects nothing less than fair and balanced” coverage from the network. This was a few minutes after the host accused her of advancing “socialist” tax proposals and said her healthcare plan would “bankrupt the country.”

Greenwald, MoveOn.org and others in the progressive blogosphere led an effort last year to encourage Democrats to boycott the network; they succeeded in getting candidates to refuse to participate in a Fox News sponsored debate that was eventually canceled.

A hot new talent competition....

Melanie Brown and Joey Fatone co-host "The Singing Office," a tongue-in-cheek singing competition for TLC that pits different groups of employees against each other.

In each episode, Brown and Fatone surprise employees at two separate workplaces with impromptu vocal auditions. They then pick the five best singers. The makeshift groups are trained by pros to perform a song-and-dance routine and compete in front of a studio audience.

Using Bread and Circuses to distract the crowd is even older than the Roman Empire, but it is a tested strategy. Unfortunately for the Emperor and the Senate, the city is burning.

Sorry Ms Jones' phone DIED!!

The event was GREAT, and I will give a full report after I have a quick bite to eat.

And.......... YES, I did do some shameless pandering and had Michelle autograph a shirt that I bought for Aunt Azalea. She is quite thrilled.

:P

The speech was fantastic! She had a ton of great things to say, and I will report more tomorrow - when there's more of ya'll around. Plus, Velveeta is having an alergy attack.

Police estimate the crowd at 3500! More than came out for Hillary!!

And .......... I got pushed by a secret service guy!

Evening, folks. Late-nite drive through....'twas a very long day.

We had our last Cub Scout den meetings tonight, pizza and record-keeping.

One more pack meeting to go!

I'm in the field tomorrow, I will open a blog but then I'm going *poof* for the duration.

Liv, I'm the Reds fan in these parts, or was that update meant for our friends in Atlanta?

Hey, Tri. I just let everyone know what I was doing.

You wouldn't like the outcome, Braves won 2-0.

I included the story in the early version of the Daily Headlines. He was a courageous man and I hope that his family and friends will be comforted in this sad hour. Rest in peace., Sergeant Merlin German.
