Shut Down Monday
Author: BobR    Date: 09/30/2013 11:22:16

Sorry folks - I was under the weather yesterday and neglected to write a blog. Just help yourselves to some donuts and coffee from the blog commissary, and I'll be sure to have something better on Thursday.

Good Morning! Speaking of shutdown -- I may add these two articles to the blog.

The first is an interesting piece from The Atlantic: Why This is not just 'Washington Breakdown'

But the second article is what really grasps the dysfunction in DC.

I think our own rabbit was on of the first people to start galling the GOP economic terrorists, and now he is far from alone.

The frauds on the Hill target Obama -- This was written by Roger Simon, of all people. (Not PJMedia Simon, Politico's Simon -- ) Not some radical crazy lefty...

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) leaves the floor of the House in the wee hours of Sunday morning, having taken action that will probably shut down the government, and releases a statement saying, “It’s time for President Obama to rise above stubborn partisanship.”

Which is like an arsonist telling others not to play with matches.

Boom.

Spoiler Alert if you haven't seen it!
I was happy to see it END. I'm sick of wimpy endings. Walt is an evil person that destroyed everything he touched; every person he encountered suffered from meeting him! And to have him go out proud of what he did and how many lives he destroyed -- well, it was satisfying to see him go, but I'd have loved for him to atone at the last minute. Instead he loving fondled the vat the was used to make a drug that destroys the lives of thousands of people.

I have to admit I haven't watched one episode, but I have read every spoiler and learned who the characters were. The Buzzfeed article makes a good -- great point:
Of the shows we all talk about these days as new classics, there are few truly great series finales. The Shield has one; Six Feet Under had another. When I feel like weeping — it happens! — I go to this link to say goodbye to that show again. There are plenty of very good finales: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Wire, ER, and [insert your own here]. And we all know which ones caused people to freak out (Lost, The Sopranos, and, as of last week, Dexter).

Ending a television show is as hard as hell to do. But if one new business model for television is binging, it’s actually imperative that the show end well. Or all of that Netflix/Amazon/iTunes action the show was seeing during its life will fall off a cliff. Who in their right mind would tell someone now to begin watching Dexter? Better never to start. With The Shield, on the other hand, you could easily and truthfully say, “It is terrific the entire time and the ending is perfect.”
That said I am one of the people that really liked the ending of the Sopranos.

Comment by Will in Chicago on 09/30/2013 14:25:33
The ending of Breaking Bad was fitting. It was good to see Walt admit that he did everything for himself. Had he lived, I think that Walt would have been forced to come to terms with all the harm and death that he caused. Instead, he died after eliminating people no less evil than he had become. I felt sorrow for someone who had wasted his life and destroyed lives.

I wish the Dems would pushback on this - shut down the FAA and Air Traffic Control and see how long this lasted.

I read it again.

He's a coward. Something is wrong with his entire screed.
I would have loved to explore all this. But when I approached people for interviews, I discovered that nobody, and I mean nobody, was interested in helping me make this film. Not Democrats, not Republicans -- and certainly nobody who works with the Clintons, wants access to the Clintons, or dreams of a position in a Hillary Clinton administration. Not even journalists who want access, which can easily be taken away. I even sensed potential difficulty in licensing archival footage from CBN (Pat Robertson) and from Fox. After approaching well over a hundred people, only two persons who had ever dealt with Mrs. Clinton would agree to an on-camera interview, and I suspected that even they would back out.

Takeaway: The Clintons wield SO MUCH POWER that even the GOP is afraid of them?

(I smell a future meme -- a PAC funded meme. )
