Pass it on. Right now there are glitches. There are problems with the ACA website. There is no getting around that. Until then, remind people of this phone number:

1-800-318-2596

And send them this video:
In just 75 seconds, Mika Brzezinski, live on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, was able to dispel conservative anti-Obamacare lies and connect with an Obamacare agent — live on national television.

Although website glitches have marred the roll-out of Obamacare’s online exchanges, President Obama is encouraging Americans to call the hotline to sign-up, but some critics say that isn’t working either.

1-800-318-2596

ObamaCare is more than just a website. It's the law of the land -- once upon a time there was no internets and we still had the old timey thing called a telephone.

1-800-318-2596

I won't deny that we are a technology fueled culture in this day and age, but there are ways to get affordable health care. Speaking of fueled, it really could be worse, considering who the Republicans talked to about implementing ObamaCare
According to emails obtained by CNBC, House Republicans asked the founder of McAfee Associates to “guide our oversight and review” of the Affordable Care Act website.

In 2012, McAfee went on the run from Belize authorities. He was later detained in Guatemala and deported to the United States, but has not been charged with a crime.
This is the same man who was asked about his anti-virus product “I take it off,” he said. “It’s too annoying.”

1-800-318-2596

There are bumps in the road, yes, but I'm glad we didn't hire a (allegedly) meth addled murder suspect 'person of interest' in a Belize murder to implement the online exchanges.

Way to go House GOP!

This was the lead story on TRMS last night. I almost drove my car into a tree this morning listening to the podcast. "The Gospel of Rachel" carries much weight in these parts, but I actually shook my head and said to my ipod, "You made that up" at the end of the segment.

A final word on our former Scout brethren in Utah (Asshat Council).

They were members of the LDS wing of Scouting, and therefore violate TriSec's own Scout Proverb:

"Never trust a Scout leader that doesn't drink coffee."

There was just one more question, though: “Do you have McAfee antivirus on your computer?” He looked at me and put down his cigarette. “I take it off,” he said. “It’s too annoying.”

Interesting observation. Of course, the BBC's "Witness" podcast was about this today. They were interviewing a Marine survivor....and he sounded wistful when he pondered that this was the first time the US "turned and ran" after being attacked, and he quietly speculated that maybe we wouldn't have opened ourselves up to ongoing terrorism if we had stood firm.

But that is a soldier's point of view. Worth thinking about, though.

(I was a Senior in High School when this happened, so certainly not in tune with the geopolitical situation of those days.)

Exactly, written all the php, integrated the SQL, debugged the site, configured all the servers, did the software installs, created the CRM tool for the call center, debugged that as well and did the integration of the CRM into the VOIP phone system for the call center. Oh yeah he would have done all the hiring for the call center himself.

Comment by TriSec on 10/23/2013 14:13:26
Actually, the website scandal is this:

It was offshored. Some Canadian company with a questionable reputation got the bid, and of course they screwed it up.

I'm sure that somebody like The Google, or Apple, or even Amazon, that gets more hits and purchases than the exchanges on any given day could have coded that to work perfectly, but probably at a higher bid than what actually came in.

Thanks GOP, our government at "work".

Shit is starting to piss me off. I've been listening more and more to WNEW in the car.

Some phucking Romney guy writing BA for Forbes as a *blogger* and hired by National Review makes shit up and then the GOP repeats it like truth.

Pisses me off.

There is NO evidence that that ACA is under-estimating insurance quotes.

I think she's a bit more confused than before. I don't know if that's an effect from what they're doing to her, waiting to talk to a doctor. She's sleeping now, I don't think this place is conducive to sleep.

Looks like she suffered two strokes, fairly mild. One affected her vision in her left eye, the other affects memory. The neurologist feels there will be some improvement as the brain rewires itself. First thing is to get her blood pressure under control, that appears to be the cause.

I'm starting to get the feeling that in a year or two from now we will see that this was overblown. Like I said in the blog, there are problems -- that is to be expected, but everyone is running around all hair on fire.

A few of the questions were confusing. But, in my defense, I was listening to Steph and she makes me dumber.

I feel the need to jump in here since I deal with quite a few SCA-oriented organizations as part of my work.. it's has a much larger basis in historical information than LARPing does. I'm talking about places like Plimoth Plantation, the Tea Party Ship Museum, Old Sturbridge Village..

Although... then there's festivals up here like King Richards Faire and the CT Renaissance Faire that straddle the fence between re-enactment and pure roleplay. And of course those attending take it to that next level.

Actually... the REAL difference is SCA is a job instead of a hobby.

Lots of acting (roleplay), having to wear heavy-ass clothing all day, and usually there's LOTS of pre-industrial manual labor involved especially if it's a place like Sturbridge or WIlliamsburg. Not to mention you need to be overly-educated about the history of the place so you can properly interact with visitors.

Oh Chris, please do! Please, please, please. I am a geek and all but there are some thing that I find too geeky.

aw, but they are having the fun, I'm not gonna crush anyone's enjoyment. Technically isn't SCA similar to the LARP but without the "fantasy" element?

:mighty inhaler huff: Not at all we a respectable historical reenactment group, no gaming geeks!

(Wait for it)

SCA not geeks!

To everyone: This is geek level 12.

Yuuup!

Say now, I feel like gloating. (Not about ACA.)

Remember last year, my incessant whining about our selected Scout Unit? After summer camp, we transferred to a unit across town.

Javi has friends there from soccer and school, so this was just fine.

The second week there, I got a personal invite from the Chairman to join the unit committee. (A point of contention with those other guys.)

Within a month, Javi has joined a patrol, created a patrol flag, and has re-energized himself as a Den Chief for my new pack (205). All points of contention with those other guys.

I haven't heard a peep out of our old unit - nobody has contacted me one way or the other to find out what happened to us. Javi has gotten more out of this troop in a month than he did in 18 months with the other one.

Of course, being a District guy, I have to maintain friendly relations, so I put out invites to our old unit for some training I had scheduled for last weekend. Nobody came. And the Committee Chairman just sent me a tersely-worded email that he's having problems finding volunteers to be Den Chiefs - they have some "thinking" to do about the direction of the unit.

HA!

(And I'm running some citywide adult training again next weekend...I pointedly left them off my leader's inventory....they didn't want my help last year, so they don't get it this year - they can organize this themselves.)

Please read this article from last May. I know you are all tired of me posting about the ACA, but this garbage is important.
After Congress rejected a request in March for nearly $1 billion in additional spending for fiscal 2013, the White House asked for $1.5 billion for fiscal 2015 to set up and run dozens of exchanges that will provide Americans options for health insurance. The new marketplaces will launch in October for open enrollment.

"We requested additional money . . . but we didn't receive any additional funding for the exchanges," Ellen Murray, HHS's assistant secretary for financial resources, said last month at a budget briefing. "So we've had to come up with a Plan B. We've been working very hard to develop that."

They are bitching about the rollout when they could have not only provided the funding  -- it might have given them more oversight.

Radicalism 91.25
Socialism 50
Tenderness 62.5

These scores indicate that you are a tender-minded progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a centrist with several strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

After having done some research, and talking to my advisors ... It appears that this cover was done in 2008. It happened before I took office of the Presidency of the United States of America.

I apologize for not informing you then or now. I also apologize for the splinter in your hand.

Now I will say this, I deeply regret that Mick Fleetwood is a womanizing tool, although, let me say, that doesn't diminish the effectiveness of Fleetwood Mac's music. It doesn't make the legacy of the band any less important, and in fact, as you can see by this cover song, the music has reached an entirely new generation. This is a good thing.

So let me reiterate, this was a cover song. It was not a cover up.

Your scores indicate that you're quite the fascist bastard, aren't you?

Actually, I made that up. It's blocked here; I'll have to do this later and post the results when nobody will see them.

I'll scope out the blog tonite. I'm curious as to what your score is going to be.

One day, I would love to hear POTUS say these words:
I also apologize for the splinter in your hand.

My question is this, when in a family moment, POTUS does something kinda dorky do the kids say thanks Obama!?

I would NOT want the look of Momma Michelle after one of those interchanges.

Especially during the shutdown...

Sasha: Thanks Obama!

Malia: Shhh, quiet Sasha.

Michelle: Oh? you wanna go there? Let's go there. See that garden out there? The one outside? the one that the squirrels are pillaging? You. (points finger) go weed it. Let's Move.

You can thank me.

On the other hand, I can totally see Michelle saying that when POTUS is in the dog house.

Very bizarre all around.

It is. This wasn't a kid just snapping, I think.

Likewise. Just F5ing for now.

Does your facebook tell you when there's new comments to your posts? Because it uses the same type of programming hook. Just wondering if FireFox rolled out a patch that is breaking this

I am getting those.

While I was out, I was listening to Thom Hartmann in the car but WWRL's signal really starts to turn to crap once I am east of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. But, WBAI is now also airing the third hour live which means I can listen on FM instead of the crappy AM signal that it's carried on. In the last half-hour, A half-hour ago, Thom was debating this wingnut who as a venture capitalist was arguing that there should be no tax on capital gains and it sounded like the typical Randian ethos of selfishness and me, me, me. I really just want to rip these assholes apart myself and say what selfish pricks they are.

OK I finally have internet back.

Went home from the hospital so I could receive what I THOUGHT would be a new DSL modem. Thought the package was rather light, only things in it were some DSL filters (I gots enough of them). Another call to Despison and their voice menu hell.

Ah...wife told them we had a modem....OOOOK. Ah, but wait, Verizon tech person (actually she was very nice so I won't use the other name) says that modem is not supported, it will take 7 days for a new one. I said why can't I use the old one since I can connect with it now then install the new one when it comes in? So after about an hour things seem to be working.

As luck would have it, Anne's brother from MS was in the area on business, so he stopped by to visit her tonight. I'm sure that made her day.

She has another test tomorrow (trans esophageal cardiac ultrasound) and then she will be moved to a rehab center as they wean her onto Coumadin and work on her memory.

I have been getting so many words of support and offers of help from family and friends it's really touching
I find it really difficult to ask for anything, if you want to do that Anne and I will certainly appreciate it and enjoy it. Really at this point, I'm still processing what's going on.

As promised:

Political Values

Radicalism 77.5
Socialism 75
Tenderness 40.625

These scores indicate that you are a moderate progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a liberated atheist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as left-wing.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a centrist with several strong opinions.

Interesting. I suppose my near-death experience last year may have altered some of my worldview recently.
