Mixed messages from CPAC

I am so confused.

One of the panelists on a discussion conservative women in politics had a message for men within the party: no dumb comments this cycle and let women talk about contraception.

"We cannot have any stupid comments this year. No stupid comments," conservative author Kate Obenshain said Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference. "Please think before you make pithy, obnoxious comments."

and then... at the close of the panel:
"White men stay behind, let the women talk about this issue. We love white men. We love all the white men," Obenshain said before adding that it's important for women to talk about those issues.

and people wonder why this happened at the minority outreach nontraditional voting blocs
I add “meaningful” because there was something of an effort at trying to address the Republican Party’s problem with race. To wit, the main attraction for Thursday afternoon was a panel on outreach to “nontraditional voting blocs,” featuring Ed Gillespie, the former RNC head turned Senate candidate in Virginia, and two black conservatives: Robert Woodson, president of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, and Elroy Sailor, a close partner of former Rep. J.C. Watts.

It wasn’t a bad lineup. But there were two big problems. First, no one cared. The event—held on the main stage of the conference—was nearly empty. The CPAC crowd, it seemed, had better things to do than think about its relationship with black and brown Americans.

And second? Judging from the description, the panel was designed for disappointment. Billed as a discussion on “how to bring conservative ideas of liberty, opportunity, and prosperity to nontraditional voting blocs and teach party and movement leaders how to embrace them,” the hourlong panel was a rote restatement of the GOP boilerplate on outreach.

The conservative women at CPAC2014 made it clear, they love white men.

Before CPAC2014, with the ongoing drama of Ukraine, Russia and Crimea, Sister Sarah of the Holy High Church of the State of Red Meat, had this to say about President Obama in comparison to President for Life, Vladimir Putin:
“People are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans,” Palin said “Anyone who carries the commonsense gene would know that Putin doesn’t change his stripes,” she said. “He wants to exert huge power and dominance, so he has to get to those border areas and he has to capture them.”
Saturday night, Ms. Palin gave the closing speech to CPAC attendees. I'm sure everyone heard about her amazing adaption of Dr. Suess' Green Eggs and Ham, but they may have missed this:
Failing to show peace through strength has allowed some “very, very, very bad dudes (to) gain ground”, said Palin, who remains a darling of the far-right.

Obama “would gut our arsenal while he allows others — enemies — to enrich theirs”, she said.

“Mr President, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke.”
Putin is a really bad dude, but may they be damned to hell should they show one drop of support for our President and this country. Perhaps there is another angle here. Maybe Sister Sarah of the Holy High Church of the State of Red Meat just wants a no-holds-barred cage match between the two leaders to highlight on her newest reality show: Amazing America. That's not a parody link, BTW.

I clearly am confused by conservative women. Then again perhaps I'm not; they love the white men, love nukes, hate abortion, are indifferent to people of color and love to rewrite Dr. Seuss so clearly they'll be really responsible with handling those other lady issues like contraception in the coming election cycle.

I never knew myself, but I can tell you it has whipped cream and nearly a pound of marzipan...

Here you go.

I can't wait to try the part that we got to keep at home. (he made this for a fundraiser at his job. I hope he can show up and explain it all.)

Mornin' all.. ugh the time change hit me hard this year.

I just don't understand how anyone could possibly take Sarah Palin seriously at all, much less find her tolerable enough to watch anything televised or otherwise she appears in.

It's actually a pound and a half of marzipan, along with 5 cups of whipping cream and nearly a dozen eggs. Oh and some other stuff like sugar and flour, and a jar of raspberry jam.

They don't care about "serious" - they treat politics like WWF.

Something else I heard at CPAC. Did The Donald really complain about job growth and how slow it's been under Obama, when he is supposed to be one of the "job creators"? I mean.... Come ON!

Comment by Raine on 03/10/2014 14:49:31
Oh, this article from Ron Suskind blew me away.

Reaching my Autistic son through Disney.

It's long, but whatever one thinks of Disney, this is a good thing.

Oh yes, that would be another one of the mixed messages.

between Trump, lyin' Ryan, and Sister Sarah, I think they have turned serious politics into a dark comedy of performance art.

You know, considering they are only working 113 days this year, I honestly don't see how they can whip this enough to get this passed.

In order for legislation to get passed, they have to BE IN DC to talk the shit out.

PhuckBoner

Hello, bloggers!! I hope that everyone is well. (I got to visit friends yesterday after getting over my cold.)

Raine, I don't think that the conservatives get how deeply they are disconnected from the concerns of many Americans. It is as if we have two groups who speak mutually unintelligible languages.

I just had this mental image of someone touching her face and the "skin" sloughing off like the funeral home corpses in last night's "Walking Dead".

Hey Raine - check out the InsideNova thread on Facebook - there is craziness starting to go on in the post about the Manassas land usage/city council being sneaky about our only women's clinic that provides abortions

I found that fluids and lots of rest helped. Also, warm compresses helped with the eyes.

This week, I am finding a lot of jobs in the Boston area. So, I may be in a position soon to start bugging you, TriSec, and Scoopster for some advice on things in Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, we had a major accident on the Bishop Ford Highway that turned a half hour trip to a full hour and a half. (Naturally, I had an errand to run to Chicago.)
