For those that can't watch, here was the money quote:

Burr: “On average, how many Canadian patients on a waiting list die each year? Do you know?”

Dr. Danielle Martin, vice president of Medical Affairs at Toronto’s Women’s College Hospital: “I don’t, sir, but I know that there are 45,000 in America who die waiting because they don’t have insurance at all.”


Dr. Martin thouroughly schooled the anti-ACA senator, and I for one think more people should know about this.

The LA Times mentions:
(The reference to "Premier Williams" is to Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams, whose decision to have a heart valve procedure in Miami, near where he owns a condo, rather than Canada, is widely viewed in Canada as a rich man's failure to investigate the care available to him closer to home.)

I imagine that there is a lot that you want to say. As I said in my post last night, it is perhaps harder for the image you have of someone to die than for that person's actual death.

(Their neocons also are big into the Paul Ryan approach of cutting social programs and blaming the poor.) They have faced ridicule, anger, beatings, arrest and detention -- by their fellow Israelis They have had stones thrown at them by Palestinians even as they have advocated for Palestinians. Yet, they have seen legal victories in the court system, both for Palestinians and for the Israeli poor. (It took two years to restore one mentally ill Israeli woman's benefits )

Let us in the face of sorrow and human evil remember that there are still good people who take a stand in this world. Perhaps that is what will save us from going the way of the dinosaur.
