Say, is anyone keeping up with the Pistorius trial in SA? I listen to the BBC every day, so I get it by default. In any case, his whole defence is based on mistaken identity. Question for those sharing a bed... You hear a noise in the night, and get up to investigate. How do you not notice your partner alongside you?

Recession Not Over for Poor: Families Stretch Food to Last
BY MIRANDA LEITSINGER
Aer Jaime Grimes found out in January that her monthly food stamps would be cut again, this time by $40, the single mother of four broke down into sobs — then she took action.
The former high school teacher made a plan to stretch her family’s meager food stores even further. She used oatmeal and ground beans as filler in meatloaf and tacos. She watered down juice and low-fat milk to make it last longer. And she limited herself to one meal a day so her kids — ages 3, 4, 13, and 16 — would have enough to eat.
“I just want my kids to be fed," said Grimes, 38, of Lincoln, Neb., who suffers from chronic back problems, arthritis and muscle pain that make it difficult for her to stand. She is applying for disability but in the meantime has $950 a month — $500 in child support and $450 in food stamps — to feed and house her family. "I just want my kids to have the basics of life that, unfortunately, I can't give them right now," she added.
Grimes and her children are among the estimated 49 million Americans who have limited — or uncertain — access to enough food to meet their daily needs. The numbers of people living in such hardship initially spiked during the Great Recession to around 15 percent of Americans, and has hovered there, failing to return to pre-recession figures of 11- to 12-percent though the economic slump ended nearly five years ago in June 2009, according to a new report by Feeding America, a national hunger relief charity.

what! is Ed playing a joke Randi's ending her show 5/16?! WTF
Quote by Will in Chicago:
NO! Ed Schultz is reading a press release that Randi Rhodes is retiring as of May 16th! I tend to listen to Thom Hartmann but I will listen to her today. I think that we must reform the radio industry so that we do not have 90 percent of the stations owned by a handful of corporations.

It sounds like Randi doesn't have enough affiliates to keep the show going thanks to the shutdown of so many talk stations. I can rarely listen to her since I can only get her online since she is no longer on satellite radio and New York no longer has a progressive talk station.

This is not good news. As my sister in law is ill today AND my brother is home, I am streaming WCPT and using my laptop's headphones. Norman Goldman did a brief commercial stating that another progressive talk station -- NOT WCPT -- is going to change formats soon. This is sad, as I think that there are listeners for progressive talk.

I wonder if she is being forced out. I am not sure if Nicole Sandler can or will say anything on this situation.

She hasn't. I think that Nicole would leave Randi to say something.
I am also worried about Stephanie Miller's show. A lot of affiliates have vanished.
Me neither

Randi Rhodes Calls it Quits. Progressive talk show host Randi Rhodes, according to a press statement from syndicator Premiere Networks, “has decided to end her show†as of May 16. The presser says, “We wish Randi well and thank her for her years of incredible creativity and unique voice.†Rhodes – a native New Yorker – was a very successful, longtime local talk host at WJNO, in West Palm Beach who went into syndication with Air America during the early 2000s and moved over to Premiere after Air America’s demise. Last November it was reported that Premiere would be dropping the Randi Rhodes show but two days later that was reversed. There’s been no official statement about today’s news from Rhodes herself.
