Perpetuating the racism.
Author: Raine    Date: 08/25/2014 13:12:06

Watch this today, if you watch nothing else.

It's from 2 years ago. The City is Chicago.
“We have long been worried about the ways in which the media helps perpetuate negative stereotypes of boys and men of color, but this appears to be overtly criminalizing a preschooler,” said Dori J. Maynard, President of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education. (snip)

CBS 2/WBBM television aired the story early the next morning and featured a short clip of the boy, whose name was not released.

CBS 2 anchor Steve Bartelstein said the two teens were standing on the sidewalk when they were shot.

“The male’s in good condition while the girl’s expected to recover and kids on the street as young as 4 were there to see it all unfold and had disturbing reactions.”

Boy: “I’m not scared of nothing.”

Reporter: “When you get older are you going to stay away from all these guns?”

Boy: “No.”

Reporter: “No? What are you going to do when you get older?”

Boy: “I’m going to have me a gun!”

Bartelstein ended the story saying, “that was scary indeed.”

Co-anchor Susan Carlson exclaimed, “hearing that little boy there, wow!”
Problem is, as shown in the video above -- the part they selectively cut was the last part:

Reporter: “Boy, you ain’t scared of nothing! Damn! When you get older are you going to stay away from all these guns?”
Boy: “No.”

Reporter: “No? What are you going to do when you get older?”

Boy: “I’m going to have me a gun!”

Reporter” “You are! Why do you want to do that?”

Boy: “I'm going to be the police!” (emphasis added)
This was two years ago, and today, on the day of Michael Browns Funeral, the NYT reports this garbage:
Michael Brown, 18, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel, with public records and interviews with friends and family revealing both problems and promise in his young life. Shortly before his encounter with Officer Wilson, the police say he was caught on a security camera stealing a box of cigars, pushing the clerk of a convenience store into a display case. He lived in a community that had rough patches, and he dabbled in drugs and alcohol. He had taken to rapping in recent months, producing lyrics that were by turns contemplative and vulgar. He got into at least one scuffle with a neighbor.
On the day his body os going to be put in the ground, dead at the hands of a police officer.

When will it ever stop? As our media continues to spread such garbage, is it any wonder why racism is so misunderstood in this nation? Racism is real and right here is a very good example of how it is institutionalized, again.

Morning, comrades.

I have been allowed to play in the sandbox today; I'm working from home. (Car is in the shop, and Javi has an appointment this afternoon, plus soccer practice.)

Those two stories in the blog are amazing, discouraging, and sad.

Wow....

Good morning, bloggers!!

As a former print reporter, I have been wary of TV news as they have limited time and often can't go in depth. What horrific editing and reporting. We are having reporters engage in editorializing on the front pages of newspatpers and in broadcasts.

Raine, here is something that ran at the Daily Kos yesterday. The media is the tool used to misrepresent black men for a purpose.

If, like Moses, I live to be 120, I may see the end of this senseless bigotry.

Ya know, we still use PAINT around here. That plastic peel-off junk wouldn't last through one snowstorm.

Tape is generally used in construction zones I guess.

That peel-off stuff is used in construction zones so they don't have to paint black over them when they're done.

FYI - we get snowstorms here too.

As we could use some good news, here is a story from Mother Jones -- with video.

These Israeli And Palestinian Kids Would Rather Sing Than Fight.

I don't like the ones in the stores, almost too evil looking. Like my graveyard to be fun. Everyone stops to read and take pictures XD.

Sal T. Andburn was the only one I wasn't sure of - made that one up myself.

Good day, folks. Sounds like Mala's tombstone names could have been used in a "Treehouse of Horror" open.

I'm sure they are much more clever. Couple of mine could have come from the Haunted Mansion not sure - found a list on Halloween Forum.

One of the drawbacks of working from home is that all my good snacks are in my desk.

OTOH, I can have that 3-martini launh.

So let me ask this question, Why is Rand Paul in Guatemala performing eye surgery when he's not licsened to do so in the USA?

LEt me put it this way? Why not get licensed to perform eye surgery in the USA?
