The officials said it had been difficult to find a contractor willing to enter the apartment to clean it and remove bedding and clothes, which they said had been bagged in plastic. They said they now had hired a firm that would do the work soon. The Texas health commissioner, Dr. David Lakey, told reporters during an afternoon news conference that officials had encountered “a little bit of hesitancy†in seeking a firm to clean the apartment.
The delay came amid reports that as many as 100 people could have had contact with the victim, Thomas E. Duncan. And it came a day after the hospital acknowledged it had misdiagnosed him when he first visited.

Distressing news yesterday. my godson, Alex has relapsed back into his addictions and other issues. His current whereabouts are unknown. His mom has cut off contact with him. I don't know if his dad has or not. I will be finding out later.

Indeed. Shouldn't the CDC be all over this? But one must wonder how much their budget has been cut, or if the sequester (remember that?) has played a role here.

To be serious, I think the way the disease outbreaks like Ebola are handled something like this: The CDC provides the epidemiology support and disease research. The county/city health department handles stuff like the quarantine and decontamination stuff. The whole national, state and local thing.

Or maybe it's because this is Rick Perry's idea of a hazmat crew.
SERIOUSLY A POWER WASHER?! WHAT THE HELL!??!?!!?
Quote by Mondobubba:
Can we all stop and take a deep breath, please? How to we know this is the crew cleaning up the complex where the family lives? It could be anywhere. Yes, Rick Perry is a ginormous asshole, but even he isn't that irresponsible. We are all playing into our worst stereotypes about red states and Texas in particular. Yes, Ebloa is a scary disease, but remember it is hard to get.

In all seriousness, I get that I'm maybe letting my political bias add into this mess.
And yeah I realize it's hard to catch this bug. However I just feel that the response here is seriously lacking respect for the basics.
The virus is spread by contact with infected bodily fluids. Yes, that includes vomit, which was on the sidewalk there. Yes, it was out into open for a few days, baking in the sun which given enough time can break down the virus. Neighborhood residents and pets have come walking by. I'm sure there's been at least one curious dog near there, despite any constant police presence.
The virus is destroyed by bleach, and concentrated bleach is needed depending on the amount of bodily fluid present. However, there's no confirmed reporting about whether the vomit was treated/soaked with bleach (or even if there was bleach in the power washer). And cmon.. the cleaning crew should at the very least been wearing fisherman's gaiters.
Gotta have proper respect for what this thing can do. Not panic.
