Can't We All Just Get Along?
Author: BobR    Date: 12/03/2014 12:24:54

For the last four years, Republicans in Congress have worked hard at not working, and worked even harder to ensure that government doesn't work. After trying and failing to make President Obama a one-term president, they've ensured nothing of value made it to his desk for signature. They have been labeled the "Do Nothing Congress" and obstructionist. Naturally, they mostly got re-elected and then some.

The new House and Senate don't take over until mid-January, but already they are acting like they are in power. The House is taking a vote to prevent President Obama from acting on his Executive actions on immigration, because that's more important than - you know - passing the bipartisan Senate bill on immigration that they already have. At least they are going to pass a spending bill to keep the government from shutting down. Well hallelujah... I suppose they'll act like they deserve some praise for meeting minimum expectations. Participation ribbons all around!

Meanwhile, some House Republicans are thinking about cancelling the president's State of the Union address. It's doubtful they'd go through with it because it would be horrible PR, but it really shows how diseased the legislative body is. Over in the Senate, a jobs bill failed the absurd 60 votes needed to advance to a "regular" vote. The jobs bill would have spent $60B on infrastructure repair, something that is sorely needed even if we don't need to create the additional jobs. Our infrastructure is a metaphor for our Congress, or vice-versa.

While all of this is going on (or - more accurately - not going on), Iran is working with Iraq to combat ISIS. Yes - two mortal enemies are working together to eliminate a common foe, a foe who Republicans happen to consider a dire threat to the U.S. What makes this even more interesting is that they are using American Phantom jets left there from the 70s when the Shah was in power.

It certainly puts a certain perspective on things. If Iraq and Iran can put their differences aside and work together, why can't the Democrats and Republicans? (or the Republicans and Republicans?).

You know, Iceland and New Zealand's name registry are starting to look pretty good.

This is why we named Javier after his ancestors. Although we had discussed using the Basque spelling of 'Xabier', which is pronounced the same. except in English, so we didn't.

I would have thought it Zah-bier. But you know, Basque.

The POV is similar to a shooter yes. If you've played Fallout 3/NV or Bioshock it's kinda like that. Tho you can change the view to overhead so that it's wider similar to FF or Diablo's real-time fight view.

Haven't played any of those - games that look like they have guns I stay away from. They make me edgy. Tried to play a horror game once (Silent Hill I think) it made me so stressed I couldn't continue.

But since you can change POV that sounds better. So if I like FF I'll like Skyrim? Any female player characters?

Recursion is a valid programming technique if used correctly.

alisvolatile: you can be a female lizard person, the argonians
alisvolatile: i was a lady bosmer archer

short answer, yes
alisvolatile: you can be whatever you want to be!
alisvolatile: the elder scrolls games are 100% about you doing whatever the hell you want to do
alisvolatile: i once did a playthrough for just my after retail job shifts
alisvolatile: where i ran around as a cat person and punched the wildlife to death
alisvolatile: and ate their flesh raw
alisvolatile: it was very cathartic
alisvolatile: got about 10 hours in
