There are no words for this blog today. With over 3800 people assumed dead and probably another 7000 injured the magnitude of this is difficult to imagine.

We were so busy this weekend, we didn't even know about this until midday on Sunday. It's horrific. These are bad enough in areas that are easy to get to - for it to happen in such a remote inaccessible area compounds the devastation.

So remember little more then a year ago I had a friend who ended up going to jail? Well she's out and it seems that her family was not able to hold onto the storage unit where she put all her stuff - lost everything. Right now she's on the search for a cheap laptop, she free lances admin services and needs one to help her save up enough to get a place of her own.

So does anyone know where a person could buy a cheap laptop?

If she doesn't want to go that route, Tiger Direct is pretty cheap. So is Frys.

You don't think a pawnshop would be overpriced? Tiger Direct is cheap, don't know about Frys

In other disaster news, yesterday marked the 29th anniversary of Chernobyl. And Saturday was the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing (It was also ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand).

I've been to the store in Atlanta. They have everything and anything that could be construed as "electronic" (telescopes? freezers? hmmm). It's been over 5 years, though, so my memory fails me WRT pricing.

I r bummed.

On my way home Friday I got a notification for a team meeting at work today. Seeing as we already had on Thursday, I figured it was not good news.

I found we had layoffs on Friday, and our manager was one of the casualties, though he's being allowed to stay on this week. For his part, he's totally OK with it as he's nearing retirement age anyway and as far as he's concerned he's all set. Still, he's the one responsible for hiring me to the position I'm in, and you gotta love a cat person anyway.

I hope it was a one-time housecleaning and not the canary in the coal mine.

Some of those foods I've only ever seen on Chopped. You would be a little proud to know I picked up and item or 2 to try. Wanted to get some of the honey pancakes but the directions were only in Korean XD

This is mostly because Philips is spinning off the Lighting business and keeping the Medical business.

According to the R&D manager who attended the meeting, this is related to the restructuring and nothing else is on the horizon.

And as our manager put it, he would much rather he get the axe than two of us....

I sort of knew that. Since I don't have photoshop any longer I had to have a friend gin up a thing for my office. One of the supervisors is constantly forgetting her phone or drink when she is done with the space. I asked him to use a really offensive font for the text as long as it wasn't Comic Sans or Papyrus. He downloaded Tire Shop just for this project.

I've seen it before, but that was in my pre-font awareness phase. Doing the website modifications has given me a fine sense of what looks good and what looks like crap. There are so many fonts that are just awful. Their awfulness is compounded by the way in which they are misused. I'm sure that Tire Shop looks fabulous when it is used well in a context where it is appropriate.
