Honestly I had to do that just to distract myself so I wouldn't endlessly bang my head into a wall. Why you may ask? Well, apparently Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan is on a 12 day trip to Japan and was "wow"ed by the maglev train. He called it the "future of transportation".

MD Gov Wowed by Fast Trains with Big Price Tags

Yes, if the "future" was more then 40 years ago.

Did you know patents for maglev technology started showing up in 1905 and 1907? Yeah, I didn't either, but apparently people have been curious about this for a long time. In 1913, there was a demonstration in New York with rail cars. But it was the '60 there things really started to take off.

1969, Japan starts operating two independent maglev trains. They have been improving on this tech since most of us showed up on the planet. Ten years later Germany gets its first maglev train.

Wikipedia - Maglev

That Republicans seem impressed by old technology says so much about their party. And why we need fluffy, cute, baby animals to keep the rest of us from going ballistic.

Good morning!

I am really afraid that Hogan is going to undo all the good done under O'malley.

I don't doubt it. Still trying to figure out how he won.

I had no clue either, originally I thought it started up about the 70's cause I remember my teachers being very excited about saying soon all trains would be like that. How disappointing that it never happened for us.

Hi all. Back from a busy morn.

I have been poked, prodded, and de-blooded by my friendly Oncology department for my 6-month checkup. Everything seems in order.

Then I've been by four schools this morning to distribute flyers for a summer recruiting push for the cubbies.

And now back for lunch and a lazy afternoon before heading out to the store this evening.

And never mind maglev - think about the French and their wheeled TGV. They hold the current speed record for steel-wheel rail at about 360 mph. Compare that to a WWII era fighter...the P-51D Mustang had a cruising speed of about...360 mph. (But could go faster in a dive or otherwise.)

And the top speed of our fastest train is around 150, on 3 sections of track totaling no more than 33 miles through RI and MA.

The documentary is amazing. I stumbled on it on HBO a few years back.

Actually - 150 is faster than I thought we were capable of. I've been on train in France going about 170, and it was smooth sailing

I know a friend who has gotten ahold of this. I hate her. :mutters fucking Legs...:

10.7% AVB in 22 oz bottles? This could happen.

For some perspective - that's the same size as a bottle of wine, and several points lower on the alcohol scale. Generally, though - that's a bottle for sharing.

Big bottles of beer have made the blog stuporous?

Comment by TriSec on 06/05/2015 19:02:02
So, I've been sniffing around my old flight sim again recently. I'm reading about the Doolittle Raid, and have just been to an airshow, so I'm getting a little itchy.

I was able to get a fully-loaded Douglas A-20 "Boston" off the ground at about 75 KIAS last night...and I am pleased to report that I have pulled "The Maddowan" out of mothballs and our old blog flagship is ready to take to the skies again!

(Historical note: Yes, I know they were B-25s. I don't have one in the sim, and the A-20 is similar enough to mess around with.)

No one will see this, but re-brewing an APA for the party, because the original batch managed to pick the plasticy smell from a brand new garden hose.
