Good morning.
Author: Raine    Date: 09/21/2015 13:13:01

Being it's Monday morning, I am overwhelmed by too much news and information.

Still, here in the DC area, the news is all about the Pope coming to visit. Well, that and the looming Government shutdown. DC is pretty accustomed to large gatherings, and this one looks like it will be a huge event. He will be arriving after leaving the country of Cuba.

It's not a secret that Pope Francis played a large role in the thawing of cold war relations between the United States and the island nation.

Having said that, just a few moments ago, this story came across my twitter feed:
For the first time, the United States may be willing to accept a United Nations condemnation of the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba without a fight, The Associated Press has learned.

U.S. officials tell the AP that the Obama administration is weighing abstaining from the annual U.N. General Assembly vote on a Cuban-backed resolution demanding that the embargo be lifted. The vote could come next month.

No decision has yet been made, said four administration officials who weren't authorized to speak publicly on sensitive internal deliberations and demanded anonymity. But merely considering an abstention is unprecedented. Following through on the idea would send shock waves through both the United Nations and Congress.

It is unheard of for a U.N. member state not to oppose resolutions critical of its own laws.

It looks like Cuba might actually be a place to visit in the very near future. and the International Times has a rundown of what the new travel rules mean for Americans.

I am not Catholic, and I deeply disagree with the church's stances on many issues, but I want to give a hat tip to Frances and our President, as well as the Castro government for this amazing change in diplomacy.

I won't be going into DC this week, but I do expect it to be an exciting time.

They are letting us work from home starting tomorrow for the rest of the week because getting into the city and even into this building will be a nightmare.

Hello, I am an idiot and all my brain cells are dead.

My new ride came with a trial subscription to Sirius, which I decided to keep (and pay for).

I only remembered TODAY that Momma streams live on the progressive channel. Which means the blog flagship is coming out of mothballs- I'm back in the race!

Do you know if that's going to be the rule of thumb for fed workers too - trying to judge my commute this week.

The federal government is asking for as many people to work from home as possible.

I unlocked an achievement of semi-epicness yesterday. I got one of the Glasgow roller derby girls to say, "HEED! PANTS!" to me. I was in heaven.

I shall remind everyone that I'm here at a different 'ground zero'. One wonders if His Holiness will acknowledge his minions' love of little boys this trip?

Just wow.. this David Cameron thing. Is the stupid disease that's infecting the US starting to affect Britain as well, or did we just inherit it from them centuries ago?

I have not, but I did read about that analogy. Only problem is Cameron did it as part of a stupid frat secret society prank.

Its the first episode and its disturbing. They really aren't that's far apart, but Cameron, yes, was an idiot. I can't stand these secret societies. Its the freaking 21st century can we all stop playing around?

DWS seems to want to pretend that debates are not important for our party. It pisses me off. If she weren;t so blatantly in the tank for Clinton I might understand, but the reality is this, she is protecting her preferred nominee.

and it really pisses me off.

(video at the link)

Now I preface this with another interesting fact. Back in 2008, while she was a Clinton surrogate, she was calling for MORE debates & and the reason why was that Clinton was behind in the polls. (eta, I will find that link)

Now here is something else really interesting; back in 2008, DWS was very upset that Howard Dean was standing by party rules regarding seating delegates from Florida. This video explains is a little bit.

She didn't like the rules then , but she is sure dismissing debates now.

Andf then there is this.
The DNC approached the O’Malley campaign in February, March, and April with its six-debate proposal, according to Smith, and she said the campaign shot the DNC down each time. And not only was there no negotiation, Smith said, but the DNC also lied about the exclusivity clause, which stipulates that candidates can’t participate in events not sanctioned by the DNC. The party assured the O’Malley campaign there wouldn’t be one, Smith said, but then, an hour before announcing its debate schedule, it changed course.

Asked if Smith believes the DNC is limiting the number of debates in order to protect Clinton, who benefits from having the highest name-ID of any announced Democrat and is not exactly known for being light on her feet in debate, the O’Malley spokeswoman said, “In the absence of them offering any other excuse, I think that has to be the natural assumption.

I am very much against the exclusivity clause, and seriously, I don't want to say it, but DWS is REALLT skewing this entire primary season for Clinton. I am NOT happy with the party right now. It is blatant.

and it's wrong. That the party itself appears to have picked their own candidate without the input or hue ability to see the candidates is terrible. I have said I would vote for whoever our candidate eventually becomes, but right now, the way I am seeing it — the DNC under DWS isn't really pro-choice.

You think? I mean at the end the guy was viewed with sympathy and people loved him but would someone go that far to get the public on their side. Its obviously backfired at this point.

I don't think there is an eating club or whatever the hell it was where they do unspeakable things to a big. Granted, Cameron is a pig and all...

Good day, folks. Have to head out to the Doctor in a bit, but the interesting thing is to discover that BBC America has suddenly decided to start airing Tom Baker episodes which at least can give some people a chance to catch the old series unless you're lucky enough to have Retro TV or one of the few PBS stations that still run the old episodes.

I've been plowing through the Baker era on Daily Motion... All the episodes seem to be there.

David Tennant > all other doctors, BTW. (Ducks brick)

This is not how you do drug research, You don't jack up the price of a generic drug (why does he even have rights to something off patent anyway) to fund the research on the new drug. You charge out the ass for the new one while it is on patent. Something is broken here.

Also it looks like a short term fix to keep the government going is going to happen. Will not include cuts to Planned parenthood.
