Barack Hussein Obama is already leading the country
Author: Raine    Date: 07/17/2008 12:13:09

Barack Obama is already giving us change we can believe in... and don't think for a minute he isn't. Today we learn we are sending Diplomats to Iran. Yes, Iran - for the first time in nearly 30 years. This comes after months of *ush and McCain attacking Barack Obama for being an appeaser for saying said that he would be willing to have diplomatic relations with that country.

They did the same to Barack Obama after he said he would be willing to strike Al Queda in Pakistan. Guess what? Bush did exactly that a few months later.

Barack wants America to remember the other war... Afghanistan... and suddenly, *ush does too. Same policies same ideas... Ones that McCain and *ush and all of the other GOP water-carriers lambasted him for...

Same type of rhetoric happened with Korea... see a pattern? There are many more examples of this.

What I see is a man - Barack Obama - who has the sense to say the unpopular thing at times, but what will ultimately be for the good of the United States and how we're are viewed in other countries. I see a man who truly wants to make this world a safer place. I see a man that is willing to take the attacks from the right because he knows that this country must change course. I see a man that refuses to lead with saber rattling and fear.

I wonder what John McCain will do today when he wakes up and has his wife read him the news about Iran on the computer machine. It was only a few days ago, he joked about killing them all with cigarettes. How very diplomatic.

In the end, Barack Obama is already leading this country, his words are changing the course. It's sad that he cannot really take credit for it, but I will give it to him anyway. I will take a president Obama anyday over a man that doesn't seem to know that Czechoslovakia doesn't exist anymore. That is NOT change I can believe in. I want to believe, again, badly.

:peace: and
Raine

Good Morning, and great post!

I, for one, am ready to hate the new president much less than the old.

The only way it works is with president Obama.

First I am SO slow I didn't know what SYTYCD meant! (I figured it out) but you have to understand I really am not on top of this stuff . . That being said.

I am not allowed to watch - Queen Joy (she's really a dictator) doesn't enjoy my smart-ass comments so I have to go do other stuff. However, I have a little update from her highness. . . .

Mark and Gev are the bottom boys (no inuendo) - Bottom girls Comfort and Kherington. . .

New pairing Joshua and Courtney were GREAT as well as Will and Katee . . .

One of the better shows . . . Totally bugged Comfort was brought back but she did well so . . .

(dictated and recorded thus)

Oh, this USAIR story about pilots being forced to carry less fuel is bullpuckey, BTW.

On any flight, minimum FAA requirements mean you carry fuel for the flight, plus 20% more for anticipated delays, plus more to reach two alternate airports up to 200 miles away.

That's absolute; no commercial plane leaves the ground unless these minimums are met.

Were USAir is cracking down is on the "extra" fuel...often it's easier to carry far more fuel than necessary to cut down on refueling time, but you've got to burn more gas to carry that weight.

Comment by wickedpam on 07/17/2008 13:39:27

John Nance Garner once described the office of the vice presidency as being "not worth a bucket of warm piss." [This quote was Bowdlerized for many decades to "not worth a bucket of warm spit" by the media. The incorrect version is still used on occasion by writers who say they never heard or read it any other way. Garner once described a writer who quoted it this way as a "pantywaist."

Great Diary from Kos:

Senators John McCain and Joseph Lieberman On Meet The Press, October 21st, 2001:

RUSSERT: Would you have any problem expanding President Bush's orders to the CIA to go after Osama bin Laden to include Saddam Hussein?

LIEBERMAN: Well, I leave that to the president. But as a matter of principle and morality, of course not.

RUSSERT: Senator McCain?

MCCAIN: I think Joe's right.

And I would just like to add one additional point. I believe that we will succeed. We will endure in Afghanistan. We will take out bin Laden, and we will take out the Taliban. And then we've got a major challenge of a stable government, but...

RUSSERT: How long will that take?

MCCAIN: I think the longer we give the impression that we're there for, the shorter it'll be. Because, as you quoted from articles earlier, they think they can outlast us. I don't think they can this time.

RUSSERT: Do you believe the American people will continue to stay with that campaign?

MCCAIN: Absolutely, and I think the president is doing a great job in leading America and making us aware of the challenge we face.

But I think the real crunch is going to come after Afghanistan is settled and then we have to address the other countries, including Iraq. That's where the coalition may not be so strong. That's where people like the Saudis and the French and many others may have real reservations.

And so, we're going to have to be steadfast. And again, the president will continue and, I think, very eloquently stated, countries that harbor these terrorist organizations will be held responsible, so it'll be their choice, not ours. It'll be their choice.

RUSSERT: But after Afghanistan, you'd have no problem going after Saddam Hussein?

Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold. For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases, it will have no power to hurt you. So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will then be powerless to vex your mind.

ABC World News noted the White House's objection to Obama's words, but added that "the fact is, they are sitting down at the table with the Iranians," which "is essentially what Barack Obama has been proposing." In fact, former Ambassador John Bolton "said this is like getting an Obama administration six months early. Now, the White House says this is very different. Received postcard from my the guy I buy my pellets from. It provided limited time pricing, which will most likely go up soon.

Message:

Although pellet fuel has grown in demand over the last few years, we are facing so many uncontrollable variables that predicting the future has become impossible. First off, the slowdown in the building industry has reduced the availability of raw materials. The devaluation of the US dollar in the Canadian market has not made it cost effective to import Canadian product at all. And, let's not forget the continued increase in fuel costs, which add to the freight costs exponantially.

The Environmental Effect on Puberty

Obesity is certainly one factor in the surge in so-called “precocious” adolescence, but chemicals are also thought to play a role. According to Erin Barnes, writing in E – The Environmental Magazine,a study comparing the body mass index of Danish and American girls found that the former group hit puberty a full year later than the latter even though their weights were in the same range. Another study found that wealthy girls in South Africa reach puberty a full year after their African-American counterparts. “Many researchers,” writes Barnes, “are studying the relationship between chemical pollutants like PCBs (polychlorinated bphenyls) and phthalates (commonly used plasticizers) and premature development.”

Some researchers believe that the preponderance of synthetic chemicals in more developed societies are interfering with human endocrine development and essentially “tricking” kids’ bodies into going through puberty prematurely. Also, precocious puberty in girls has been linked to breast cancer, as well as higher rates of drug abuse, violence, unintended pregnancies, problems in school and mental health issues.

I think - not just kids. Think of the stuff us 40-50 year olds were exposed to that we might not even know about? (or still consider?) Even fluoride and of course PCB's - plastics - dyes - and on and on

US slips down development index

Americans live shorter lives than citizens of almost every other developed nation, according to a report from several US charities.

The report found that the US ranked 42nd in the world for life expectancy despite spending more on health care per person than any other country.

Overall, the American Human Development Report ranked the world's richest country 12th for human development.

The study looked at US government data on health, education and income.

The report was funded by Oxfam America, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Conrad Hilton Foundation.

The only real thing is life and we are getting less and less - UGH!

American used to be better than this.

Kos: 9 Republicans vote for impeachment hearings

In a stunning development which fell with the silence of a feather yesterday, 9 Republicans broke with their iron-fisted party to put country first, and voted to send Rep. Dennis Kucinich's article of impeachment HR 1345 to the Judiciary, where Chairman John Conyers will hold a hearings on abuses of power by the Bush administration, according to the Congressional Quaterly's CQToday. Ten Republicans abstained in this critical moment, while only 5 Dems did. The vote was neck and neck at many moments, with "Nays" pulling ahead twice.

Those Republicans are (Yea 238 - Nay 180):

Congressman Kevin Brady (TX)

Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (MD)

Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC)

Representative Don Manzullo (IL)

U.S. Congressman Tim Murphy(PA)

Congressman Ron Paul (TX)

Congressman Dave Reichert (WA)

Congressman Christopher Shays (CT)

Representative Mike Turner (OH)

One of the Republicans, Walter Jones, represents Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, one of the largest Marine bases in the country, and one which has borne heavily the sacrifice of the Iraq War.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!

If he would have been (s)elected we would still be in a mess but a lesser one.

Man, it STILL gets my bloodpressure up thinking about 2000.

Why didn't the streets explode when the SCOTUS entered state politics in Florida?

Seems in retrospect the "equal protection" issue was based on Owellian prose:

All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.

Ah, you hit the nail on the head.

The GENERATIONAL distinction comes not with the type of food in your freezer, but in the amount you've got stocked!

My freezer is so empty that, instead of turning on the A/C, i just curl up in there for a few minutes.

I am so sorry for your loss my friend.

There is never any reconciling the loss but fond memories are a salve for the empty space once occupied.

We will mourn with you and celebrate those memories.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

The *resident also believes that Iraq's problems can be solved through an oil revenue sharing law.

Kinda sad... :(

He used to come running (until the last month) every time I put on the SMS in the morning - he'd curl up by the speakers - and sleep, of course (he was old...)

Awww Shane-O I am sorry to hear that. Mrs Mondo was greeted by three very special friends.

Archie: HER CAT she had Archie longer than me, which Mrs Mondo would point out to me on many occasion. Kidney problems, he was 17 years old. A great guy we took him with us to my parent's 50th anniversary which was a few months before he died. One of the guests who came back to the house left a door open and my parent's aging dauchsie wonder back there to check out the cat. Big mistake! We heard a grown, a dog yelp and Oscar came running out of the bed room like his tail was on fire. Mrs Mondo and I went to check on Archie, he was sitting there with a smug expression on his face, licking the dog off him since he had just whapped Oscar across the nose with the claws! :)

Tybalt: The cat we for me. My poor baby he has stones, bladder stones. One got lodged in his urethra so did another one. Our vet, the wife of the former Ambassador to The Bahamas, recommend surgery to "reroute" the plumbing. One of the things the rerouting requires is having the penis removed. Poor Tybbie never really recovered. So we had the black and white Sylvester looking fella put down. He was 12.

Pippin: Oh he was joy we found him and his sister Merry as wee kittens in our backyard. We pretty much has to hand raise them. we fed them around the clock. Pippin grew and grew into a big 15 pounder all it muscle. A sweetheart. He would sleep in the door to our computer room. If there was anything out of the ordinary Pip would growl then hide Mrs Mondo's feet! In July of 2004 I came home from visiting Mrs Mondo in the hospital and I found him in the cat bed. I first I thought he was asleep but it turns out he was dead! Our vet thinks it was either heart attack or stroke. Oh yeah that was on a Thursday night. Since I needed to bury him with Archie and Tybalt in the back yard, I wrapped Pippin up in a couple of garbage bags and stuck him in the freezer in the garage. Some how the dead weight shifted and I found him on the floor of the garage on Saturday morning! He had fallen off the shelf and broke the door latch on the freezer! Stinker!

All three of them are burried in the back yard, each one with a different paver to mark their graves. I miss all them very much. But Pippin most of all, he was only four when I found him. as I write this I would like to think they are with their mom keeping her company.

Mondo - I bet that Sox will have a great time with Archie, Tybalt (sounds like he looked a lot like Sox - a black and white Sylvester-type) and Pippen - wherever it is that kind souls go. Considering how wonderful most cats are, I bet it's a cool place befitting them all. Sox always knew where to hang, so I hope he find them and their Mom.

Thanks so much for sharing that Mondo.

I'm very worried about what the presidential race, political discourse will be like while Obama is traveling overseas.

McCain was SO VOCAL about the fact that he was not going to attack Obama while he was doing his South American (and Mexican) tour. Will Obama respond in kind?

Either way, he's fucked. If he does attack, McCain and the press will rail on him for playing politics overseas.

If not, McCain has a week of free shots at Obama while he's gone. And the press has been all too willing to shill for McCain.

I'll be honest, when I first saw the cover, it didn't bother me. I thought it was a funny commentary about the idiots who believe that drek.

However, when Bill O, on Monday, put up the picture about four times - each time saying "look at this picture" - all I could hear in my head was Jim Ward mimicking Bill O saying, "The Factor has obtained exclusive photographic evidence regarding the Obamas' background."

It was turned around and used as ammo by the right. Especially last night when Bill Salmon (aka "Big Stretch") made the commment that (paraphrasing) - in every piece of satire there is some truth... grrrr!!!!!! He pointed to the fact that Obama's father and uncle were Muslim.

Screw Comcast (they have been restricting bitorrent stuff so they are fixing your content) and screw MSNBC, CNN, Faux and the rest.

Trust me I have some experience with addiction.

People compelled to watch something that serves little purpose for their benefit and could arguably be a source or angst or anxiety yet they can't stop - it is the very definition of addiction.

It took about three months before I got over the "Jones" for the cable news-o-tainment teat. The same effect as stopping any addiction - the withdrawing from the mind-set.

Now I can turn off the local news if they go beyond local news and weather. Even their national "news" is so slanted as to be counterproductive to clear thoughts on serious issues.

At least when KO and Rachel are on MSNBC the content does pick up a bit and there are some signs of actual news reporting. These days, I seem to prefer more the international news services. I get BBC World, EuroNews and CNN International in my area. CNN International is slightly better than its domestic counterpart since it has to tone down the American jingoism due to international complaints about the news coverage.

Now if only you get CBC NewsWorld or France 24 and there would be a much greater variety of news coverage.

Comment by capt on 07/18/2008 00:13:09
I often wonder about what is on the cable news-o-tainment channels these days?

On which cable news-o-tainment channel did you last see a flag draped coffin, a military 21 gun salute at the graveside of one of our fallen? Have any of those channels shown anything in Iraq - other than the green zone? Any blood or guts? Any bodies of ours or the terrorists? Reports of hundreds of thousands dead - maybe a million - 4,500 of our troops dead, tens of thousands injured and the news-o-tainment has nothing?

Are they "reporting" the "news" or selling you on their info-product, all sanitized and seasoned for mass consumption?

Just sayin'

Comment by capt on 07/18/2008 00:16:07

I wonder if anybody can list five things they have gotten from cable news that I didn't also get on the internet within a day or two?

Going back to my cable news days - I can't think of one?

So, is it news, entertainment or an addiction?

Mass media is how the multinationals manipulate the masses. Do you think you are immune? That your personal fortitude somehow innoculates you from the tripe they are selling?

I guess it is possible, but if you can't quit the news-o-tainment relying on your will power to resist professional manipulation is wishful thinking at best.

IMHO

remember you are crazy.

Well, The only thing i can say is that at least Media news has some sort of proffessionalism (Some), while the internet is the home of much more falsehoods and wrong information. Neither are truly reliable sources, doesn't matter where you go, each have a slant.

So...Screw the news all together.

All I know for sure is when I took those evil channels off my remote control the black helicopters cut WAY back and are flying higher than before, I was able to take some of the foil off my windows (ah fesh air) - and I only have to wear a one layer foil hat (three were required before).

A little bit of rain today - not enough to wet the ground but enough to keep the humidity higher than normal for the desert. UGH!

Even Monty Python, consider the attack of the killer blancmange - seems so blatant in retrospect. And the "Prisoner" with the big white ball - clearly a metaphor for something. . .

OK, I have a little bit of news. After a five-and-a-half year dry spell, I am back in the theatre game.

I have been looking for something to do since we moved to the ATL last year, but it seems I found out about the latest production at our local playhaus about a week after it had been cast. We finally found a website that listed other community theatres in the east side, and waited it out.

A couple of weeks ago, we found out that there were going to be auditions for a musical version of "Treasure Island" at one of the community companies. I went and auditioned Monday, and found out Tuesday night that I had been cast as Capt. Smollett! Of course I accepted, and tonight we had our first readthrough.

The show goes up in September. I'll post dates on the forum when I get them. I'm back, baby!

Try is tomorrow or later? I get the message I have to upgrade my Flash - that is an error in error - I am up to date. I ran into it this morning when I posted the kitty cartoons. I got the update error at the youtube but the video played on the board. Something funky with the tubes, I think.
