There are many things that are being said about last nights Commander in Chief Forum Hosted by IAVA. There were seemingly minor foibles such as this, as reported by the Hill:
"Mr. Trump, I wanted to ask what your plan will be to stop 20 veterans a day from killing themselves," said Rachel Fredericks, who served in the Marine Corps as an aviation operations specialist from 2008 to 2010.

"And actually it's 22," Trump responded during the forum hosted by NBC News and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

Fredericks, identified as an undecided Republican who is leaning Trump, grimaced and shook her head.

Trump then added, "And it's almost impossible to conceive that this is happening in our country. Twenty to 22 people a day are killing themselves."

Although the rate of veterans suicide was previously estimated to be 22 a day, the Department of Veterans' Affairs updated that number to 20 in August.

Former Secretary of State Clinton got the number correct.
LAUER: Sergeant, thank you very much for your question. Let’s talk about veterans and suicide.

CLINTON: Yes, let’s, please.

LAUER: It’s an alarming, alarming story. The population of veterans has a rate of suicide far above the general population.

CLINTON: Twenty — twenty suicides a day.

LAUER: What are you going to do to stop it?

CLINTON: Well, this month is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. And I’ve spent a lot of time with family members, survivors, who’ve lost a loved one after he or she came home, sometimes suffering from PTSD or TBI or sexual assault, being handed bags of opioids, not being given an appropriate treatment to help that particular person, which is something, to go back to the sergeant’s question, we have to change.

So I rolled out my mental health agenda last week, and I have a whole section devoted to veterans’ mental health. And we’ve got to remove the stigma. We’ve got to help people currently serving not to feel that if they report their sense of unease, their depression, that somehow it’s going to be a mark against them.

Donald trump mansplained to a member of our military, and he got it wrong.

Then there was this, from the transcript linked above.
QUESTION: Mr. Trump, I have a daughter who is interested in joining the service, but when she researched the military, she saw the stats on sexual assault and decided not to go. I have a concern about the rape of women in our armed forces. As president, what specifically would you do to support all victims of sexual assault in the military?

TRUMP: It’s a great question. And it’s a massive problem. The numbers are staggering, hard to believe, even. But we’re going to have to run it very tight. I at the same time want to keep the court system within the military. I don’t think it should be outside of the military. But we have to come down very, very hard on that.

And your daughter is absolutely right, it is a massive problem. But we have to do something about that problem. And the best thing we can do is set up a court system within the military. Right now, the court system practically doesn’t exist. It takes too long.

LAUER: In 2013, on this subject, you tweeted this, quote, “26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military, only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men and women together?”

TRUMP: Well, it is — it is — it is a correct tweet. There are many people that think that that’s absolutely correct. And we need to have a…

LAUER: So this should have been expected? And does that mean the only way to fix it is to take women out of the military?

TRUMP: Well, it’s happening, right? And, by the way, since then, it’s gotten worse. No, not to take them out, but something has to be happen. Right now, part of the problem is nobody gets prosecuted. You have reported and — the gentleman can tell you, you have the report of rape and nobody gets prosecuted. There are no consequence.

I literally cannot even begin to comprehend how anyone thinks this man is fit for the highest office in our nation. Trump said: The V.A. is really almost, you could say, a corrupt enterprise. and this: We have a depleted military. We have the greatest people in the world in our military. But it is very sadly depleted. and this: Well, they’ll probably be different generals, to be honest with you.

There was this tidbit about Libya, from the GOP Nominee: Hey, Matt, again, she made a mistake on Libya. She made a terrible mistake on Libya. And the next thing, I mean, not only did she make the mistake, but then they complicated the mistake by having no management once they bombed you know what out of Gadhafi. I mean, she made a terrible mistake on Libya.

Really? we have video these days and it is easily searchable:

There is plenty more that I can say, but I am still astounded at what we saw last night. This is just one fact check piece about it.

Morning

I just followed along on twitter and it seemed like a train wreck for him but I bet he will get a bounce from his ugliness and non-answers.

there was also this:

TRUMP: The — and I think you know — because you’ve been watching me I think for a long time — I’ve always said, shouldn’t be there, but if we’re going to get out, take the oil. If we would have taken the oil, you wouldn’t have ISIS, because ISIS formed with the power and the wealth of that oil.

LAUER: How were we going to take the oil? How were we going to do that?

TRUMP: Just we would leave a certain group behind and you would take various sections where they have the oil. They have — people don’t know this about Iraq, but they have among the largest oil reserves in the world, in the entire world.

tRump also said (with regards to the problem of rape and prosecuting those responsible): "But we have to do something about that problem. And the best thing we can do is set up a court system within the military."

The other thing about last night's abortion of a forum was how bad Matt Lauer was. He spent an inordinate amount of time on Clinton's emails, and - per the fact-checking link - did not call tRump on his easily refutable lies.

That was astounding.

Just maddening.

Good morning!

I had to do a few things last night, including write thank you letters for my interview. So, I missed the forum.

As an ex-reporter, I am distressed that we are not seeing hard questions asked of Trump, fact checking during interviews, and the acceptance of non-specific answers by him. I think that Thom Hartmann is probably right in that the media wants a horse race in order to make money off of ad dollars.

I saw PLENTY of people railing on that issue, so I chose to go with the actual things that that trainwreck of a pustule actually said.

Mornin' all

So yeah that vet suicide number thing where T went out of his way to 'correct' Matt Lauer on the statistic? He was wrong, of course.. it's 20 not 22.

And that didn't stop Politifact from claiming T didn't go out of his way to give the wrong number.

and, then there was this shit:

LAUER: Did anything in that briefing, without going into specifics, shock or alarm you?

TRUMP: Yes. Very much so.

LAUER: Did you learn new things in that briefing?

TRUMP: First of all, I have great respect for the people that gave us the briefings. We — they were terrific people. They were experts on Iraq and Iran and different parts of — and Russia. But, yes, there was one thing that shocked me. And it just seems to me that what they said President Obama and Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, who is another total disaster, did exactly the opposite.

LAUER: Did you learn anything in that briefing — again, not going into specifics — that makes you reconsider some of the things you say you can accomplish, like defeating ISIS quickly?

TRUMP: No, I didn’t learn anything from that standpoint. What I did learn is that our leadership, Barack Obama, did not follow what our experts and our truly — when they call it intelligence, it’s there for a reason — what our experts said to do.

LAUER: Hallie?

TRUMP: And I was very, very surprised. In almost every instance. And I could tell you. I have pretty good with the body language. I could tell they were not happy. Our leaders did not follow what they were recommending.

What the hell is this? how does one fight back on that crap?!?!?

It does seem that Americans want the dumbest people in charge just like Idiocracy, which seems to explain why Trump is polling so well despite the fact that he doesn't know a thing about most issues and pretty much lies about everything, but somehow they think Hillary Clinton is the bigger liar.

Charlie Pierce....

One of the major party candidates is a boastful ignoramus. This is now beyond dispute. This is the one immutable fact of the matter from now until November. This is now the challenge for our political system, including the journalists tasked to cover it. There no longer is any reason to give him the benefit of the doubt on any question. He will not pivot. He will not moderate. He will not learn. He knows everything he needs to know. Just ask him. He doesn't know what he doesn't know and he's proud that he doesn't know it.

"I think under the leadership of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the generals have been reduced to rubble. They have been reduced to a point where it's embarrassing to our country. ... And I can just see the great, as an example, Gen. George Patton spinning in his grave as ISIS, we can't beat…I have great faith in the military, I have great faith in certain commanders certainly. But I have no faith in Hillary Clinton or the leadership. ... We need change, Matt. And we have to have it fast."

Holy fcking hell. He's planning to turn the Joint Chiefs into an episode of his old television show. It's Seven Days In May in reverse, and rebooted as slapstick.

I think a good ad against Trump would be pointing out that the "Freedom Kids" who performed at those Trump events have not been given the pay they were promised and they have to sue him to get the money they were promised.
