Double Standard?
Author: Raine    Date: 09/12/2016 13:11:52

Here is a video from 2010, of Senator John McCain holding a hearing with then-General David Petraeus. You can fast forward to the 2:12 minute mark.

This was 2 years before he was forced to resign in scandal. He was still in command of the United States Central Command. In 2010 he was nominated to be the commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.

This is 11 hours, of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton being questioned in Congress regarding the events of September 1, 2012.

You don't have to watch it; it's 11 hours with one short break - believe me on this.

in 1988, Senator Joe Biden had two brain aneurysms. He is currently the Vice-President of the United States.

Former President Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer's while President, according to his son. We all know that FDR hid his paralysis from the public. John McCain had cancer and went on to become the Republican Nominee.

I am concerned for our nominee, but the point I am trying to make here is the double-standard that happens with women, and even more so with this woman. The pearl-clutching that the public wasn't told about her pneumonia is truly ridiculous. She is in a no-win situation.

Vox has a good write up about the illness speculation.
For children and adults who are otherwise healthy, pneumonia will typically clear up in a few days after a dose of oral antibiotics and some rest. (This kind of pneumonia is usually referred to as "walking pneumonia" because patients aren’t sick enough to be in the hospital.) For those with more severe infections and complications, it can take weeks to get better, and pneumonia can even be deadly.

"[Pneumonia] kills people sometimes," said Lionel Mandell, a pneumonia researcher at McMaster University. "Most of the time it doesn’t — especially if you’re well enough to be treated outside of the hospital."

The campaign hasn’t disclosed the cause of Clinton's particular infection or her symptoms. (The candidate is 68 years old.) And we don’t have full picture of her health. So let’s stop with the pneumonia punditry.

Clinton rules are different.

According to what I read this morning, the walking pneumonia was brought on by consistent sinus troubles due to allergies. I've had walking pneumonia before - I got over it.

As you said, Clinton rules are different.

I had to turn off Cokie Roberts this morning. All she was talking about was the basket of deplorable and pneumonia.

Here is my headline for her comment re: Trump supporters.

Woman says something true, people freak out.

And now, something a little heartwarming.
Full disclosure, I have met Kane and he is an amazing kid. He's weird AF.

Yup.

I think it was kinda brilliant, and the fact that this was the first time she let press in at a private fundraiser says to me it was quite deliberate.

I'm fine with her walk back -- it wasn't an apology.

I am waiting for the comparison to Mitt's 47% comment.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

I wish Secretary Clinton a quick recovery and a victory this November. I have already seen talk from some quarters (all political movements have some nuts) that she may have to step down as nominee. I supported Bernie Sanders and I am supporting Hillary Clinton as a sane alternative to a neo-fascist, a libertarian whom I disagree with on many issues, and a former councilwoman who has no state or national experience. Clinton rules are indeed different.

As for myself, I have good news. The principal that I interviewed with on Wednesday called Friday. She will call today to let me know when I can come in for a demo lesson. So, I am up to the second step in the process.

Our comedians, like Stephen Colbert, are now our truth tellers. Maybe it is no surprise that the entertainment media is now offering serious political coverage.

Afternoon all! Back from a quick road meeting in Sturbridge. The leaves are still surprisingly green, if a little dulled by the drought conditions going on here. I thought they'd have started turning color in earnest by now.
