Bubble wrapped
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 08/10/2008 12:04:23

It is with profound sadness that I inform those of you reading this, that there are many in America that live in a bubble. They do not have the ability to think for themselves; indeed, they have no idea what logic is, and are too apathetic to inquire and analyze information with any sound reasoning. Sadly, their means of problem solving often resort to name-calling, brawls, character assassination and even war.

What is like to live in a bubble, unable to have any critical thought? To form your dishwater strength opinions from the likes of FOX News, Toby Keith and Larry the Cable Guy? And what's his last name anyway? Would he be addressed as Mr. Cable Guy or Mr. Guy?

Anyway, Velveeta is on a mission to investigate the causes of this affliction that affects so many of my fellow Countrymen. Here are just a few of the symptoms of living in a bubble: hypocrisy, apathy, Groupthink and a false sense of security that a corporation, Politician or big box store can save you. The diagnosis can be bleak: you could become a complete drooling imbecile, or worse, a Republican. Becoming a republican can lead to even worse troubles, heart disease, high blood pressure, ulcers and closeted homosexual tendencies.

Here is an example of something that could be a potential problem. I do this as a public service in the interest of alerting my readers so that they can take precautions and protect themselves from infection.

Let’s say you're a Christian. Certainly nothing wrong there! Lets say you also enjoy motorcycles. Again, no problem; motorbikes can be a fun hobby and even more so in these days of skyrocketing gas prices, a reliable source of transportation. Let’s say you want to combine the two. Um, okay, still no real problem. Ride bikes with your Christian friends, so far all-good. Now lets say you want to start a Christian Motorcycle Gang (aka MC). Whoops! You may have just crossed a line here!

Sure, you can blame society; but a “motorcycle gang” has a bad rap. Try as you might, you’ll probably not be able to change that image. Not that there’s anything wrong in trying, mind you. But, if you were to start an MC, perhaps you shouldn’t carry yourself in the image of modern day motorcycle hoodlums; you know, “colors”, gang insignia and clothing, getting into barroom brawls, etc. And certainly you should not fight with, and attempt to kill, members of the Hells Angels!

Here is an case in point that shows us what happens when we don’t use our God-given brains to think and act logically, and succumb to of the signs of groupthink and hypocrisy:

Five members of a Christian motorcycle gang were charged Friday with a variety of felony weapons and gang crimes after high-profile raids this week targeting the Anaheim-based group.

The charges marked a retreat from Wednesday, when authorities arrested seven members of the Set Free Soldiers, including founder and pastor Phillip Aguilar, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder. An eighth member was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The charges were in connection with a double stabbing during a bar brawl with the Hells Angels late last month. Police said Set Free members stabbed two Hells Angels and one Hells Angel struck a Set Free member in the head with a pool ball.

Phillip and Matthew Aguilar also were charged with possessing brass knuckles.

All five were accused of street terrorism for being part of a criminal street gang.

One Hells Angel member, John Lloyd, 41, also was charged with having a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Additional charges may be filed, said Deputy District Atty. Erik Petersen, adding that the Set Free Soldiers are a violent street gang because "they carry on a pattern of criminal gang activity."

Set Free members say they are a Christian ministry that helps rehabilitate ex-convicts and recovering drug addicts. But authorities maintain that they are an outlaw motorcycle gang.

Ministering while stabbing and brawling in bars could be perceived as hypocritical. I don’t think you’ll get any converts nor would Jesus approve.

Now lets take a short test to judge your critical thinking ability, shall we? Its just one question and not difficult at all. Question: Is it fair that insurance companies cover Viagra for men, but will not cover Birth Control pills for women?

Here’s a few actual facts to help you decide. Viagra is taken by men who presumably have difficultly achieving erections, so that they can have a healthy and normal sex life, including, having babies. Birth Control pills can prevent pregnancies. They can also be prescribed for a myriad of related issues such as to reduce extreme pelvic pain, Peri-menapausal symptoms, Uterine bleeding, osteoporosis and even some cancers. The estrogen in birth control pills maintains or improves bone density (osteoporosis prevention) during perimenopause, when bone loss begins to increase. And, long-term use of birth control pills helps prevent endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer.

Now, your answer doesn’t really count here. But, in order to pass this test, you will need an answer. Unlike this guy who wants to lead our country, but can’t seem to think of anything!

[WARNING: This video contains shocking and disturbing images of a man desperately searching for cognitive thought. It should not be shown to children as it may cause nightmares!]

Readers, be forewarned! Those that want to infect you with this horrible malady are out there! This is no X-Files fantasy propaganda, this is the real deal. Here is a peek into one of there latest methods of lulling you into bitter apathy and hypocrisy:

“John Edwards cheated on his wife”! (Gasp)

Shocking, yes. But have you heard that this, while certainly wrong, has also been committed by a man even closer to the Presidency: John McCain? He has cheated at least once. And it led to a divorce. There is also speculation by some, though certainly not by the media, that he has cheated on his current wife (the one he cheated with during his first marriage) with a Lobbyist named, Vicki Iseman.

Your Corporate Media is all over this story. I mean the one about John Edwards. Shocking that a man that close to the Oval Office - at least 4 delegates close - could deceive us like that! Meanwhile, over in John McCain la-la Land, his wife du mois has been vetted by her husband to secure a position in a lewd, topless “beauty” contest. Not much press about that either.

Nice!

I leave you with this thought for your safety in the battle against living in a bubble: The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking. ~Albert Einstein

Now, go read a book.

Good morning everyone.

Velveeta strikes again. I noticed that after the NY Times broke the stroy about McCain's affair it disappeared from the news cycle after two days while the tabloid press harped on Edwards' affair before he announced that he did it.

Although there is one supermarket tabloid that has been reporting on the alleged marital problems in the Bush White House. With the media obsession over Clinton's infidelities during his presidency, why has nothing been said on the allegations that Bush and Rice have been having an affair or that Laura is living in the Mayflower Hotel because she is sick of either W's infidelity or his drinking? There have been different reasons as to why she has moved out.

Excellent Post Velveeta,

Here's a link to some of the past misdeeds of one the men who would be president (none other than John McCain): Arizona Reporter Details McCain's Sordid Past Nice job of bringing up what should be the follow-up story from every reporter who chooses to report on the Edwards affair. Have a great Sundee everybodee :P

How funny is this? Spanish shopkeeper finds Homer Simpson euro:

A one euro coin has turned up in Spain bearing the face of cartoon couch potato Homer Simpson instead of that of the country's king, a sweetshop owner told Reuters on Friday.

Jose Martinez was counting the cash in his till in the city of Aviles, northern Spain, when he came across the coin where Homer's bald head, big eyes and big nose had replaced the serious features of King Juan Carlos.

"The coin must have been done by a professional, the work is impressive," he told Reuters.

The comical carver had not taken his tools to the other side of the coin displaying the map of Europe. So far, no other coins of the hapless, beer-swilling oaf have been found in circulation.

"I've been offered 20 euros for it," said Martinez.

Heya Kids,

I just left the following comment on Maureen Dowd's op-ed piece in today's NYTimes

Keeping It Rielle. Her take on the Edwards affair. I was not really surprised that I was only the second person to mention McCain's infidelity. Oh well, we gotta keep trying to do the M$M's job, especially since they don't seem up to it. :P

Cheers,

mfaye

 & :peace:

MoDo,

Shame on you for not following up this insipid coverage of the Edwards affair with an equally scolding report on the transgressions of the current Republican presumptive nominee, John McCain, who not only cheated on his wife, but didn't wait until she had fully recovered from a debilitating accident. McCain not only cheated on his wife, he left her in her compromised state. Why is everybody ignoring this more important infidelity?

Afternoon, folks!

Ah, Christian Motorcycle Gangs!

Back in the 90s, there was a group called "Mean and Clean" (for recovering addicts) that met in the Methodist Church on the same night as my Boy Scout Troop.

Many of the parents were a bit concerned, but you know what happened?

We offered to do a joint project for the church, we stripped, re-finished, painted, and fixed all the structual problems in the churchs old gymnasium. Once the parents learned who they were, everyone became completely supportive. One of the motorcycle guys even put his kid in the troop and wound up becoming one of our more interesting adult leaders....

Damn that pesky "content of their character" stuff! It would have been so much easier to judge them by the "color of their skin", so to speak...

:peace:

It's August and today's the first day I've been able t o sit outside with the laptop (or anything for that matter). Part of that was that we had to get a new table & umbrella and it's just been too hot/rainy for me to put the things together. Last year I was working 4-10 hour shifts which gave all day Monday to lounge around. I guess the incentive isn't really there this year. Still a few months left to enjoy. I think we're supposed to get more rain this afternoon

Comment by livingonli on 08/10/2008 17:21:59
We're supposed to get rain here today and tonight as well. This summer has actually been kind of crappy. The best weather I had was when I was in Vegas and the few nice days we had here I was either stuck at work or had to do other things so I didn't get to enjoy them.

We had buckets of rain here in Tulsa last night, brought on, no doubt, by the fact that I finally decided to put my Obama (cardboard) signs out in my yard :(

It's only supposed to rain after you wash your car or water the lawn.

So while perusing some forums I used to frequent much more than I do now (because even though it's a forum for a piece of consumer electronics it's taken an even more RW swing than usual), I stumble upon a John Edwards thread. Of course, almost every post slammed Edwards as a despicable person that they couldn't POSSIBLY vote for now (keep in mind politics are verboten on this forum), but NO ONE in 6 pages of posts (until yours truly stuck his nose in) brought up ANYTHING about the affair of the standard bearer for the "family values" party.

gah, I just keep watching the Olympix!

I parked last nite behind someone who had the Rush Limball stickers on their car. It was lateish at the grocery store, not too many people about, but I could still figure out who they were. They were the incredibly loud, white people who could not figure out how to use the self service checkout. and they were young.

Save us all.

Today's afternoon dining features two recipes from the Morocco Pavillion at EPCOT center....

I've chicken marinating in "Moroccan Spices" right now for the grill, and we'll be making a lovely tomato and cucumber salad (from the garden!) with it.

Plus a mountain of leftover birthday cake and hoodsie cups....:urp:

Sounds yummy! You should have cous cous with it.

When I went there with my family we had dinner at the Moroccan restaurant with the belly dancers and the flaven. It was really good.

Here in casa de BRaine, we had chicken marsala last night with caprice salad and fettucini alfredo. Tonight it's pork roast (with potatoes and carrots).

More yum!
