So What I want to tell you is this:
Author: Raine    Date: 11/14/2016 14:10:39

I want to tell you we will get through this. I want to tell you it will be fine. I want to tell you that we may be blowing this out of proportion. I want to tell you these things with all of my heart.

The problem is, I can't tell you any of those things with any certainty. I can't say that when we are witnessing hundreds thousands of people protesting the person who is President-Elect of the United States of America.

I am really worried.

Steve Bannon has the ear of the president President-Elect. RNC Chair is his Chief of Staff. The Republican party has merged with White nationalists and much of the media is acting like this is normal.

as I said last week:

THIS IS NOT NORMAL

(ETA: I know John Oliver said it last night)

I was going to write about voter suppression, the electoral college, and the popular vote but I can't. None of that will matter if the path is going down continues. Hillary Clinton now has a popular vote lead that is a larger percentage than the Presidential Election in 2012. That doesn't matter right now.

I pray to whoever is listening, I am wrong.

I want to say good things, but I need to face truth.

and

Raine

Morning

I'm right there with you. Still just randomly crying cause its so overwhelmingly bad and just don't know where to start to try and slow it all down. Still can't listen to the news.

And this morning Mom told me I should be more careful what I post on facebook. Told her we still have freedom of speech. She countered with what are you going to do if someone comes to the door. I said I'd hope we'd fight and besides no one should because I didn't threaten the lives of anyone.

I refuse to censor myself because of other people.

We wore our Safety Pins yesterday while we were watching the game. The bartender wanted one. We gave her one. She told a friend about it and he plus two other women came over to us and asked if they could have some os well.

IT felt very good and very sad that its come to this in America.

Mostly sad.

Yeah. Just feel so overwhelmed, there is so much bad that I even know where to start. We can protest and march and to me that was very positive and uplifting, but what comes after that? Saw a tweet over the weekend about how Repubs are just like 1 state away from being able to pass any amendment they want cause there are so few Democratic control state legislatures. That freaks me out.

Bob Marshall is up for re-election in 2017, I have no clue who is going to run against him. He needs to go. Every time we get closer to get him out but he wins by just a few hundred votes.

Sorry, I so want to feel positive but I guess I'm still spiraling into a dark place.

I went to the protest here on Saturday. It was invigorating. We outnumbered the pro-Trump counter-demonstrators by a big margin. The saddest, most pathetic thing was the lone Klansman all decked out in his blue uniform.

I have not yet built up the strength to do so.

I seriously thank you for this Mondo.

What we are witnessing here is the 'Trumpification' of America. There is much to fear in the coming months.

Well Blair HS kids just walked out in protest.

Thanks, Raine. Considering my at time near-crippling social anxiety, it was a big undertaking. My issues need to be put aside for the greater good.

Wow, Raine, I just saw that tweet from Kurt Eichenwald. Wow. Just wow. How can they not know those are almost all political appointments?

I've yet to read the WSJ piece but evidently that is where the story if from.

I;m really getting nervous about the situation, and that does say something.

“Trump’s children and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who guided him throughout the campaign, appear to have retained their influence in an official capacity. Kushner’s presence at the White House on Thursday drew notice from Obama’s staff when he asked, as they toured the West Wing, how many of the individuals there would remain into the next administration. Nearly all will depart along with the president.”

I am bereft.

I do too. I am hearing a lot of negative comments from too many people.

My rabbi spoke of the need to oppose hatred in all forms after a member of our congregation read from a Torah scroll that survived the Holocaust. Parts of the scroll are perhaps 500 years old. It was disturbing to think of Trump on the anniversary of Kristallnacht.

This ran in the Chicago Tribune: Sinclair Lewis' political satire "It Can't Happen Here" feels current in 2016. I must ask who may be rounded up.

I will not surrender to despair, but I fear that we have a long, hard road ahead of us and I do not yet see the end of it.

Oops, I forget the link to the article on the relevance of "It Can't Happen Here."

It is sad yet almost funny that the incompetence of Trump and his court may limit how much damage they do to our nation and world.

Hmm............

You know.............

The new session of Congress starts about two weeks prior to the inauguration.

Obama could absolutely get Garland onto the bench for at least a year.

I seem to have miscalculated!

In some ways it is terrifying; in other ways it is hilarious. My more populist inclined friends wonder why I think things like term limits a bad idea and having a technocratic governing class isn't a bad thing. They know how all this stuff works. They know how to get things done.

With term limits and no technocrats, the lobbyists are the only ones who know how things work.

Hope all goes well with the Physical, Liv.

Something a friend pointed out to me over the weekend..

Republicans now control or partly control 32 state legislatures and 33 governorships.

The threshold for calling a Constitutional Convention is approval of 2/3s of state legislatures, or 34 states. The threshold for states being able to draft & pass their own Constitutional amendments is 3/4 or 38 states, but 2/3 margin is required for that in each state and that currently stands at 17.

I will be glad to say farewell to 2016. I lost my Aunt Marlene and so many wonderful people who inspired me have passed.

As we need some good news, I have a local English teacher interview on Thursday afternoon.

The saddest part of this presser is that every reporter is basically asking Obama -- *What do we do now and what can you do?*

I wish I was joking.
