One Week In - On the precipice of the Abyss
Author: BobR    Date: 11/16/2016 14:57:37

It's been one week since The Day The Earth Stood Still (because it couldn't fucking believe that Americans elected the completely unqualified racist, sexist asshole). Inauguration Day is still 2 months away, but it feels like a lifetime since the election, and a blink of the eye until he rolls into the White House with his ego sporting a permanent stiffy. There have been numerous stories already describing how ill-equipped he is for this role (and how little he understood the responsibilities), but that's a blog for another day.

During the campaign, he villainized (or at least minimized) anyone who was not a straight, white, Christian male. His supporters certainly got THAT message, based on their actions in just the last week:

That list only includes those which have showed up in front of me - I did not search for any of these. To be fair, there are some that we can't definitively say are tRump-inspired, although the one's that include tRump's name certainly are. tRump hasn't exactly assuaged concerns or told people to stop it. No, he chose Ken Blackwood - Family Research Council Fellow - to run his domestic transition team. Anyone who had any hope that things would cool down as we got further from the election (and the toxic campaign) should realize that this is the new "Not Normal".

However, those concerned that tRump is going to steamroll the country with all of the things he promised during his campaign can probably breathe a little easier. He's already walking back numerous campaign promises, which hopefully will enrage those who trusted him to make big changes. As for "draining the swamp"? Yeah - not so much. There are also the district courts which have been heavily populated with Obama-appointed judges which will be a firewall against any onerous legislation, and the quick lawsuits they will inspire.

It's amazing how much insanity has occurred in just the past week. There's not much we can do about the shit-show in tRump's inner circle (of hell), but we CAN try to help protect and stand up for our brothers and sisters who have been marginalized by this monster. Power to the people - and Sic semper tyrannis.

Morning

Heard a military thing on TOP this morning about Mosul - the military guy sounded very excited that "more options were on the table" and that Trashhole will "play it close to the vest". All I heard was more troops, more death and destruction, and less transparency (which we are already seeing).

Mornin' all..

If you haven't had a chance to hear this Breitbart underling on NPR earlier, you need to. It's some really frightening shit.

I am glad to see some good news.

As for the rising tide of hate, I am much more aware of my environment now. I fear that we will see such incidents as included in the blog rise. I don't see the more hateful Trump supporters stopping.

I really need to stop reading the comments, but it's hard when you can't help but react to a bunch of idiots referring to these kids as stupid for "having no idea what they're protesting" or lazy because they're 'rather skip school to hang out in the park instead of learn about the electoral college".

I have the same problem. Amazing how many people don't like free speech when its not what they are for.

This is interesting. Professor predicted Trump win, predicts impeachment.

The problem is that impeachment doesn't really mean removal.

No, not unless the Senate votes as well. Trump would really have to screw up to turn the House and Senate against him. Mind you, I do see him capable of doing so but I am not holding my breath.

A wise DNC chair would try to bring O'Malley into the fold as he has done well in his past work with Democratic governors.

Oh I see him completely capable of it - thing is he's a good cover for them to get all their stuff passed in the Congress. With every one yelling at Trashhole, who's watching Pence & Ryan?

Thought I was doing fairly ok (still angry though) until like last night - then it hit me again.

I swear -- I feel so strange.

I do not want to live in a world with Trump as president and yet, i have to.

You're not alone

I suspect it will be like the Bush years, where I felt like an enemy in my own country.

You know before the safety pin idea popped up, I was personally worried about having to explain to most folks I meet that I'm not their enemy. Especially since I look like the stereotypical Trump voter.
