Business as Usual
Author: BobR    Date: 11/23/2016 14:03:49

It's now been 2 weeks since the 2nd Day That Will Live In Infamy, and it might already be time to see if any tRump voters are having buyer's remorse. During the campaign, he made a lot of promises that ranged from stupid to unconstitutional to horrific. While most of the coverage of the pResident-elect has been about his Cabinet picks, there has also been a slow news drip regarding the campaign promises he has steadily been walking back.

On of his promises was to root out corruption in DC and "drain the swamp". This one resonated particularly well with voters who see government as one big organized crime ring (this writer disagrees with that assessment). His choices for cabinet picks and advisors immediately belies that ideal. It makes sense, because he is really going to need people who understand government and how it works, since he is clueless in that regard. In addition, while he was campaigning, he registered 8 companies in Saudi Arabia that will be doing business there while he is president:
Donald Trump regularly got on his high horse during the presidential campaign about the Clinton Foundation receiving donations from Saudi Arabia — but it looks like he was eager to do business with the Saudis the entire time.

The Washington Post has found that Trump registered eight new companies during this year’s presidential campaign that “appear tied to a potential hotel project in Saudi Arabia.”

Elsewhere, the Post has found that Trump has started companies that “range from sprawling, ultraluxury real estate complexes to one-man holding companies and branding deals in Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Panama and other countries, including some where the United States maintains sensitive diplomatic ties.”

This is the very definition of corruption: using your elected office to ensure your business dealings make you richer.

Another tRump promise that got his voters blood-lust riled up was his insistence that he would put "Lying Hillary" in jail. Nope - not going to happen

He promised to bring jobs and prosperity back to the middle class, but under a new GOP plan, 20 million people will lose time-and-a-half overtime pay. I remember back when I used to work hourly, and I know that people really count on that extra pay.

Building a big beautiful wall between the U.S. and Mexico? welll.... maybe a fence will do, and yes, we will be paying for it - not Mexico.

Complete repeal of Obamacare? tRump wants to keep the "good parts", which shows that 1) He admits there are good parts, and 2) He doesn't understand how repealing the mandate will cause rates to skyrocket.

How do you suppose all his supporters are going to feel as this becomes more widely reported in the news, and additional promises drop off the "to do" list? In a word: pissed
Kathryn Stellmack expects the world from Donald Trump.

After listening to his speeches and casting her vote for him, she expects Trump to toughen immigration laws, restore lost jobs, upend a corrupt political system, build a wall on the border, and be, as the millionaire put it, the "greatest jobs president that God has ever created."

"We expect him to move forward on all the items he has promised to move forward on," said Stellmack, 69, a retiree in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"And if he doesn't, we will hold his feet to the fire."

After a presidential race fueled by brash but constantly shifting policy proposals, Trump's millions of followers -- from social conservative activists to struggling blue-collar workers to hardline militant groups -- say if he does anything less than take a wrecking ball to business-as-usual Washington, they will be disappointed.

"We'll be watching, Mr. Trump," said Stellmack.
[...]
Mark Morris, a leader of the Colorado-based Three Percent United Patriots militia group, said he understood Trump would need time on some issues, but he expected quick movement on repealing Obamacare and appointing a conservative Supreme Court justice to fill the seat of the late Antonin Scalia.
[...]
Morris warned Trump should not count on his followers to stay with him if he did not produce results.

"People voted with a lot of faith that he will come through," he said. "I don’t think it is going to work out very well if he doesn’t get the things done and he comes back at the end of four years and says I need four more years to accomplish what I need to accomplish."

In other words, it seems like tRump will most definitely be a single-term president - if he lasts that long. His new hotel in DC will be the place to stay for foreign dignitaries visiting tRump after he takes office. That could open up grounds for impeachment:
After a Washington Post report detailed that foreign diplomats now feel pressure to stay at the President-Elect’s hotel in DC. One Asian diplomat said, “Why wouldn’t I stay at his hotel blocks from the White House, so I can tell the new president, ‘I love your new hotel!’ Isn’t it rude to come to his city and say, ‘I am staying at your competitor?’”
[...]
“The contract [with the General Services Administration] specifically says that no elected official of the United States government can share or benefit from the lease. It’s a 60 year lease with the GSA but the language is unequivocally clear.”

In order to open his DC hotel, Trump entered into that contract. Schooner points to this as grounds for impeachment.

He violates the lease just by becoming president. Legally, he cannot make a profit from the hotel AND be president at the same time. Of course - that assumes the hotel makes a profit. He could always cook the books to show it operating at a loss while he's president. Maybe he could even avoid paying any taxes. That's something his supporters seem to be okay with. That's not something most of America would be okay with. At the very least - it would give Congress leverage over him.

Breaking his campaign promises, though. That's something his supporters will not abide. Tick-tock...

If he's saying this, what is the real news story he doesn't want us to pay attention too?

Holy Crap. Ya, no need to monitor actual science - facts will get in the way to the story we want to tell.

Mornin' all! Short day at the office WOO!

I've decided to make "Nazi Resistance & Everyday Survival" gift baskets as holiday gifts this year. Just trying to figure out what to include. I already have...

- Booze of some kind
- Chocolate
- Coffee
- Pepper Spray (maybe?)
- Some kind of civil rights & defense booklet

Still thinking of stuff to include. Gonna try to keep it all fair trade if possible.

A copy of the Constitution might be handy as well!

I know, right? A very handy bit of punctuation. I have my friend Glynnis to thank for introducing that to me. She is a language nerd.

I have a question - say Hillary does challenge those 3 states results, and it turns out that the results were wrong and Hillary did win. What happens next?

Regardless of who ends up in the White House, half the country will consider the next president illegitimate.

That's what I worry about. Then we still have a Repub congress that won't work with her at all and I have to wonder if we would be able to win the congress in 2018 or even just 1 house because of the backlash and we get another 4 years. But then I also worry about the crazies truly picking up arms. I don't know that there is a good way out of this.

Stein Prepares to call for Recount in Battleground States

A third party calling for the recount is kind of better then Hillary doing it, looks like like sour grapes. But then I see she is asking for money so then part of me wonders if its a scam.
