I am just going to drop this piece of horror here:

U.S. Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens was killed in the raid on a branch of al Qaeda, also known as AQAP, in al Bayda province, which the Pentagon said also killed 14 militants. However, medics at the scene said about 30 people, including 10 women and children, were killed.

U.S. Central Command said in a statement that an investigating team had "concluded regrettably that civilian non-combatants were likely killed" during Sunday's raid. It said children may have been among the casualties. (snip)

The U.S. officials said the extremists’ base had been identified as a target before the Obama administration left office on Jan. 20, but then-President Barack Obama held off approving a raid ahead of his departure.

A White House official said the operation was thoroughly vetted by the previous administration and that the previous defense secretary had signed off on it in January. The raid was delayed for operational reasons, the White House official said.

US military officials told Reuters that Trump approved his first covert counterterrorism operation without sufficient intelligence, ground support, or adequate backup preparations.

As a result, three officials said, the attacking SEAL team found itself dropping onto a reinforced Al Qaeda base defended by landmines, snipers, and a larger-than-expected contingent of heavily armed Islamist extremists.

The Pentagon directed queries about the officials' characterization of the raid to US Central Command, which pointed only to its statement on Wednesday.

The US officials said the extremists' base had been identified as a target before the Obama administration left office on January 20, but President Barack Obama held off approving a raid ahead of his departure.

You're doing great Liv, this is going to help you bunches. Don't forget you can look in different areas for jobs.

Atlanta comes to mind as an area with a lot of cable channels. However, it's wise to take time to ensure your resume is polished, and do some practice interviews with the out-placement agency (if they offer that as a service). Job interviews are always a little nerve-wracking, and it's something you don't do enough to be good at it.

So, I've been watching a BBC documentary recently on "The World's Worst Disasters".

I just saw the episode on the Boxing Day tsunami, where it went on to note the relief efforts provided by the United States, and featuring some brief comments by a very Presidential looking George Bush. (Ya, I never thought I'd write those words, either.)

One wonders how Mr. Trump will react to the first significant natural disaster on his watch.

Urgh, Trump's soil is going to get all over the Grand Dame of Palm Beach. My aunt is complaining that traffic is being restricted to and from all weekend, to say nothing about flights in and out of KPBI.

The Trump administration wants to revamp and rename a U.S. government program designed to counter all violent ideologies so that it focuses solely on Islamist extremism, five people briefed on the matter told Reuters.

The program, "Countering Violent Extremism," or CVE, would be changed to "Countering Islamic Extremism" or "Countering Radical Islamic Extremism," the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.

Such a change would reflect Trump's election campaign rhetoric and criticism of former President Barack Obama for being weak in the fight against Islamic State and for refusing to use the phrase "radical Islam" in describing it. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for attacks on civilians in several countries.
