Did you wake up this morning still feeling it? The happiness the hope and the change that we are making happen? I know I did. I don't have to tell you how historic last night was. What I do want to tell you is that It was, and still is, an honor and a privilege to be able to share it with all of you.

We have a chance this time to not just move away from the failures of the past 8 years, but to be a part of great change in this country. I for one am so happy that I am here to be a part of it. 58 years ago, Rosa Parks was sent to jail for not taking her seat in the back of a bus. Over the past year, Hillary Clinton puts 19 million cracks in a ceiling. Last night, this is what we saw:
http://www.demconvention.com/assets/blogassets/LL-blog-photos/_resampled/ResizedImage353235-Obamas-Bidens.jpg

Amazing how far we have come in this country. That is, imo, a beautiful picture of the America dream.

Those people in that picture do not come from wealth, trust funds or inheritance. They do not come from privilege . They come from the same kind of hard working families that you and I grew up in. They are the people we played house with as kids, or stick ball, baseball, softball... They rode their bikes thru their neighborhood streets. They know diversity. They know what it is like to be you and I.

We collectively, as a party and as individuals, nominated good, decent, honest people that care about the things that we care about. We did it.

Now we have 67 days to make sure we complete what was started so many months ago. We are now in the home stretch, and the finish line to the beginning is within our sights. This isn't a dream, these are the winds of change. They have been a long time coming, indeed.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

:peace: and

WOW! WOW! WOW!

Good morning Raine!

I think I'll take up primary residence here in the morning as I'm fed up with the erratic behavior of the liveblog. If I was home and didn't mind forever refreshing that would be one thing because with one or two exceptions I really like everyone there (and by extension here ). But I can't keep babying a continuously redirecting connection at work.

It sorta aggrivates me that I can't stay awake long enough to see the "main events" each night. I TiVo them but it's not like "doing it live". Caught the first half of Obama's speech last night and loved it.

Got almost run down this morning by an idiot trucker who felt that even though I was in the rightmost lane I should move out of his way because he's too f&*king important to move one lane over. Poor baby must have watched Obama last night, saw the handwriting on the wall and decided to take his frustrations out.

Well Good Morning!

Glad you are safe rabbit! Drivers like that are a thorn in my side.

We are going to be scarce this morning, as Bobber and I will be heading out for our much anticipated vacation. Faye will be filling in on Monday, Shane-o on Wednesday and Random on Thursday... (right?) Friday still needs a filler, so you guys I hope can sort that out... We will be around here and there in between Cocktails, and swimming. Let's hope that Hurricane Hanna goes back out to sea.

I think TriSec said he would take Thurs (since he used to do that back at the old ranch), so if Random™ can do Friday, then we're all covered.

Seriously.. right about the point last night when Obama said "... this has never been about me - it's about you." I completely choked up, got misty eyed and broke this gigantic wide smile.

I didn't think that was possible, especially after the disaster that has been the past eight years.

Movie day today, so I'll be puttering around a bit this morning. Javi wants to see the "Clone Wars" this afternoon. (yes, I heard it sucks dead penguin's dicks...)

One of my biggest driving pet peeves is tailgaters in the right lane. I picked up a couple on I-93 this trip....I'm at the posted limit in the far right lane, but apparently that's still not good enough for these arrogant assholes.

I've been struck by the palette on the convention floor....it's a good thing to see the different shades of democracy (literally) all uniting for a common cause. How much you want to bet the RNC looks much paler?

Where's our resident pollmeister? How's that bounce?

Ah, but on 128 (I-95 to you out of MA'ers) the speed limit is 55, yet this bozo was giving me high beams and the horn even though there's 3 clear lanes to the left. To which I responded by giving the cruise control one click (about 1mph) down.

I intimated a few weeks ago over at the liveblog that I might try a Sunrise Drive this weekend. The road opens at 4:30AM, which means I'd have to leave home somewhere around midnight. I think the wife would go for it (she can sleep in the car anyway), but the 60mph winds would probably blow her away.

HEY! John McCain finally has some celeb support besides that guy who rides bikes and used to date Sheryl Crow:

Finally, we have some good news for John McCain: Reggaeton king Daddy Yankee is a fan! On Monday (the first day of the Democratic National Convention, BTW) he endorsed the Republican candidate for president, and the unlikely duo appeared together at Phoenix Central High School. The teenage girls standing behind him seemed sort of nonplussed until McCain dropped the name of Daddy’s 2004 hit “Gasolina.”

Whoops: Maybe John shoulda looked at the lyrics for the hit song "Gasolina" which talks about, among other things, um, "pulling out to avoid pregnancy" and possibly........ RAPE!

Here are some of the lyrics: (translated)

Pa' la mujeres que no apagan su motores = For women who don't turn

off their engines

Tenemo' tu y yo algo pendiente, = You and i we have something pending

Tu me debes algo y lo sabes = You owe me something and you know it

Conmigo ella se pierde = With me she gets lost

No le rinde cuentas a nadie = She gives accounts to no one

sumale el mambo pa' que mis gatas prendan los motores, = Ad up

mambo so my babes turn on the engines

Que se preparen que lo que viene es pa que le den, Duro! = Be them

ready to catch what's coming, Hard!

Mamita yo se que tu no teme va a quitar (duro!) = Honey I now

you're not gonna go away from me

Lo que me gusta es que tu te dejas llevar (duro!) = What I like is

that you like to be taken away (hard!)

Isn't that .......... sweet? What a nice little old man John is.

I did see him a few times this past week whilst on vacation (checking the am news.) Oh, and livin (and anyone else), direct TV sucks. At least in northern NH, the picture kept fading in and out...cable doesn't do that. And no 'local on the 8s' either on the weather channel.

Possible. I did get one liar-cannon submission I sent to him on the show (with an admonishment from Stephanie), plus I've done a little conversation on the liveblog. I thought I explained who I was in the friend submission. Wierd though, I can see his pictures but can't get anywhere else.

I'm less than impressed with Facebook, since I use many computers I never get the same experience as half the time I won't get into the "new Facebook" and I have to just fly by the seat of my pants. Exceptionally difficult to get photos uploaded. It is a very good way to keep in touch with my niece and nephews down in MS though(they're the ones that convinced my wife and I to join) so I'm just going to have to deal with it.

Proclaimed “America’s Hottest Governor” by an understandably prejudiced Alaska Magazine, Palin is the perfect choice for VP. Not only is she conservative, she is considered a “maverick” which would make her and GOP nominee John McCain a highly compatible duo. She was born in 1964 which would add just the right May/December touch to McCain’s seasoned 71. Not only would she bring a much needed bundle of joy to the ticket, she would also bring her 90% approval rating along with her!

Seriously?

Sooo...she's only 44. Pfft! Well, she can't possibly have enough "experience" to step in and be President if she had to.

Just checked Boston.com.

He really picked Gov. Palin?

:thud:

Quick wikicheck: (all snippets)

Brought to statewide attention because of her whistleblowing on ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders,[2] she won election in 2006 by first defeating the incumbent governor in the Republican primary, then a former Democratic Alaskan governor in the general election.

In 1984, Palin was second-place in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant after winning the Miss Wasilla contest earlier that year, winning a scholarship to help pay her way through college.[9] In the Wasilla pageant, she played the flute and also won Miss Congeniality.

Details of Palin's personal life have contributed to her political image. She hunts, eats moose hamburger, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane.[10][11] Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association. She admits that she used marijuana when it was legal in Alaska, but says that she did not like it.[12]

Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, she challenged the incumbent mayor, criticizing wasteful spending and high taxes.[9] The ex-mayor and sheriff tried to organize a recall campaign, but failed.[9] Palin kept her campaign promises, reducing her own salary, as well as reducing property taxes 60%.[9] She ran for reelection against the former mayor in 1999, winning by an even larger margin.[9][18] Palin was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.[15]

In 2002, Palin made an unsuccessful bid for Lieutenant Governor, coming in second to Loren Leman in a four-way race. After Frank Murkowski resigned from his long-held U.S. Senate seat in mid-term to become governor, Palin interviewed to be his possible successor. Instead, Murkowski appointed his daughter, then-Alaska State Representative Lisa Murkowski.[9]

Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission,[19] where she served from 2003 to 2004 until resigning in protest over what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders, who ignored her whistleblowing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest.[9] After she resigned, she exposed the state Republican party's chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners, who was accused of doing work for the party on public time, and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail.[20] Palin filed formal complaints against both Ruedrich and former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes, who both resigned; Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine.[9]

Palin is strongly pro-life and belongs to Feminists for Life.[12] She opposes same-sex marriage, but she has stated that she has gay friends and is receptive to gay and lesbian concerns about discrimination.[12] While the previous administration did not implement same-sex benefits, Palin complied with a state Supreme Court order and signed them into law.[37]

She supported a democratic advisory vote from the public on whether there should be a constitutional amendment on the matter.[38] Alaska was one of the first U.S. states to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage, in 1998, along with Hawaii.[39]

Palin's first veto was used to block legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to gay state employees and their partners. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska's attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation.[40]

Yeah, great pick Senator McCain!

DK reporting about Palin's misuse of office..

Palin is in the middle of a scandal right now. Her sister was married to state trooper Mike Wooten and is now involved in a bitter child custody battle with him. Palin tried to help out by asking the state Commissioner of Public Safety, Walt Monegan, to fire Wooten. Monegan refused so Palin fired him. Even the Republican controlled state legislature had a problem with this so they appointed retired prosecutor Steve Branchflower to investigate. McCain really doesn't need a running mate who is under investigation for abuse of power.

Fuck yea.. she's the next coming of Richard Nixon.

The fact of the matter is, this is a "Flash in the Pan" news cycle. People don't pay attention to the Veep for too long. The Veep's job is to be the Wing (wo )man and fight the battles that the candidate is too busy to fight themselves. This contest is still about Obama and McCain!

On the other hand, it's good that the wRight finally made a clear example of how chauvinist and mysoginistic the Left is. :sarcasm:

Quickish drive-by from work:

McCain’s VP Choice Is Under Ethics Investigation For Abuse Of Power In Alaska

Here are a few interesting points about Ms. Palin:

1. In 1984, Palin was runner-up in the Ms. Alaska beauty pageant.

2. In an earlier pageant, Sarah played the flute and won "Miss Congeniality."

3. She has tried marijuana, but says she didn't like it.

4. She's a lifelong member of the NRA.

5. She eats moose burgers.

6. Her husband works for BP (the oil company).

7. She wants to drill in ANWAR.

8. She's "strongly pro-life."

9. Doesn't want the gays to marry, but likes them just the same.

10. People like her.

11. She is female.

12. She's 43 years old--28 years younger than McCain, 3 years younger than Obama.

13, She's a champion of ethics reform.

14. Her administration is under investigation. Accused of trying to get a former brother-in-law fired from his law enforcement gig.

Driving out again before I'm caught.

Soooo, McCain picked a chick who is a conservative right wingers wet dream. The dumb bitch didn't mention Shirley Chisholm when she was thanking the women who paved the way for her - Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro. I guess the black ones don't count. I don't expect much from a woman who probably named her daughter after her favorite alcoholic beverage, Bristol Creme. Her one talent seems to be giving her daughters stripper names, who will be stripped of their rights if mommy ever gets into power.

Republicans are idiots. As long as someone hates the gays and is ProLife, they're good to go. As Star would say, "FUCKERS!"

Heh.

Did anyone else get the email from B-Box today?

As you may have heard, John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for President, has chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Below is a statement I made today about Senator McCain's decision:

The Vice President is a heartbeat away from becoming President, so to choose someone with not one hour's worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice.

If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken.

The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart.

Senator McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a woman on his ticket, such as Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison or Senator Olympia Snowe -- they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice.

In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature which makes this more incomprehensible.

*snort*

And there's a new poll out that was taken Tuesday showing Obama with a 6-point lead nationally. I wonder what it is today?
