I didn't watch it; I couldn't watch it. Tuesday night, pResident tRump held a rally in Arizona and delivered a speech that has been described by Republican strategist Rick Wilson as "a shitshow of the highest order". You can read the whole thing here if you want to see his words as spoken and make up your own mind.

Right of the start, though he commented on the number of people there, saying "What a crowd... A lot of people in here, a lot of people.." And then "You know I'd love it if the cameras could show this crowd, because it is rather incredible. It is incredible." Despite tRump supporter claims to the contrary, his "crowd" was decidedly underwhelming:



After thanking everyone, he said this: "Our movement is a movement built on love. It's love for fellow citizens. It's love for struggling Americans who've been left behind, and love for every American child who deserves a chance to have all of their dreams come true."

By "every American child", of course, he means the white ones. He talked a lot about "we" and "our" and referenced the military. It was a bit alarming, sounding like he was trying to put together a citizen army.

Then he castigated the media, of course, and like good little Germans, the crowd booed them.

He defended his remarks on Charlottesville, and then declared "What is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order". That certainly sounds ominous. It sounds familiar too.

He went back to demonizing the media, tossing off insults like "little George Stephanopoulos", then somehow bounced back to his comments on Charlottesville, and then took credit for the unemployment rate. He made the claim that he has created "way over one million" jobs since he took office. I am sure that will be fact-checked.

The comment that is getting the most attention is this one:

What did he mean by "our" history and heritage? Who is "our"? Who is "they"? Generally vague language like that is used to allow the listener to fill in the blanks in their own minds.

In this context, it appears the "they" is the media, that the evil, lying media is trying to use the "antifa" to take away "our" history and heritage. Having just spent the entirety of his speech up until then talking about Charlottesville, the only logical conclusion is that by "our" he means White People (represented by the Nazis, the KKK, and the various white supremacy groups).

After a few more lines demonizing the media, he says "The only people giving a platform to these hate groups is the media itself, and the fake news." By "hate groups", of course he means Antifa and others trying to remove confederate monuments (celebrating those who fought against the U.S.) from publicly owned lands.

He spent several more minutes calling out the NYT, WaPo, CNN... he actually said "FOX and Friends" was the most honest show on TV.

He pivoted to "Sheriff Joe" [Arpaio], saying:

translation: I will pardon him in the future.

He talked about The Wall, and once again equated immigrants (Mexicans) with crime. He actually claimed he coined the term "Extreme Vetting".

He talked about the Senate, and how he can't get anything through Congress because they don't have a 60 vote supermajority, with people booing Senator McCain.

He moved on to jobs again (and NAFTA), this time showing just how ignorant he is regarding coal:

They're going to clean it? Does he think they just wash the coal?

After all was said and done, the question needs to be asked: What was the rationale for this? He could have just addressed the nation from the White House. That would have saved the taxpayers a lot of money, especially since he's driving the Secret Service into bankruptcy. Was it a campaign rally? If so, why was he using White House staff, a direct breach of the Hatch Act.

Regardless, his behavior and words once again demonstrated how unpresidential he is (as if we needed a reminder). It seems obvious that terrible people make terrible presidents.
