Fumble and Turnover.
Author: Raine    Date: 02/05/2018 14:00:42

I'm not talking about the Superbowl. This morning it has been revealed that a member of the Department of Homeland Security fumbles documents that CNN recovered and turned them back over to DHS for comment. Specifically, an employee of CNN found "For Official Use Only" documents in a seat pocket on an airplane.
CNN decided to withhold publication of this article until after the Super Bowl after government officials voiced concerns that publishing it prior to the game could jeopardize security for the event. A DHS official told CNN that areas for improvement identified in the draft reports had been addressed prior to Sunday's game and that the agency had "great confidence" in its preparedness.

"This exercise was a resounding success and was not conducted in response to any specific, credible threat of a bioterrorism attack," said Tyler Q. Houlton, an agency spokeswoman.

Juliette Kayyem, a former DHS official who now serves as a CNN contributor, said it was not surprising that the documents highlighted deficiencies.

She said such exercises are designed to expose gaps in planning and preparedness so that authorities "are better equipped if something bad were to happen."

Nonetheless, she said, the misplacement of the documents was "a really stupid thing."

"Who knows who else could have picked this up," she said.

"The biggest consequence of this mistake," Kayyem said, "may have less to do with terrorists knowing our vulnerabilities and more to do with confidence in the Department of Homeland Security. In the end, confidence in the federal government at a time of crisis is what the American public deserves."
This was a lazy mistake and thankfully CNN took special caution regarding it. It does lead me to question how seriously these issues are being taken. DHS was luckier than the Patriots when it came to fumbles and turnovers, and I hope this was just a one-off mistake.

Congratulations to the Eagles for winning Superbowl 52. What was your favorite commercial?

It's Monday, let's buckle up and get this show started.

and

Raine

Morning comrades!

Not being a raging football fan like some others in this space, we'll leave the punditry to others better suited than I.

I will go there twice, though. First off, if the rumours are true and Mr. Butler was benched over a contract dispute and/or disciplinary issue, I daresay Mr. Belichek be fired, as he allowed his personal feelings to interfere with the greater good. A single defensive stop would have made the difference, but the Patriots couldn't have stopped the Saugus Sachems from scoring last night.

On the day after, we find the Hub of the Universe in quiet repose after a superbowl loss.

Meanwhile, the City of Brotherly Love revels in their victory.

There are already more important things to consider - it's Truck Day already, and the first leg of the Beanpot is tonight!

Morning

I was rather happy to hear of an Eagle's win

mornin' all..

Wha... there was a football game yesterday? Who won Man U or Chelsea?

Comment by livingonli on 02/05/2018 14:34:40
But who noticed the 30 seconds of black when there was supposed to be a commercial break? I would hate to be the operator who had to write up that discrepancy.

Oh, I had to look that Butler story up.

What the hell happened?

Liverpool tied Tottenham. Also, Man City are going to win the Premier League title unless the entire team dies.

BTW, as I posted elsewhere on the Book of Face...

Of all the Prince songs he could have covered, he picked "I Would Die 4 U"??

Awkward...

I heard that was a commercial touting the major accomplishments of the current Administration over the past year.

Stock market opened down another 300 points, currently only down 225.

*The stock market isn't the economy. The stock market isn't the economy. The stock market isn't the economy.* The stock market isn't even a leading indicator of economic health.

There has been talk of a market correction for a couple of weeks now. What you should be discussing is the fact that the market tanked on Friday because of the rise in wages. On what planet is people having more money a bad thing. Yes, I know the whole cycle is based on fear of inflation which would cause the Fed to raise interest rates.

Comment by Scoopster on 02/05/2018 14:55:42
TBH, I'm only focusing on the stock market because not even a week ago was touting it as proof that HIS economy was booming.

That said, Belichick should be smarter than the 'doo

Heh, heard rumors on SportsRumorLetsScreamAtEachOther Radio that Belichick was leaving and that McDaniels was not going to the Colts. Anyway, I hope Lions fans took a good long look at their new head coach and got real scared.

If it does turn out that Butler didn't play at all (instead of being sat down a quarter or half) because Hoodie threw a fit, then maybe it IS time for him to go.

There were no commercials I really cared for. They should have just had a commercial of someone eating Tide Pods and be done with it. DILLY DILLY, what a stupid ending for a stupid series of commercials.

Oh....I'm very happy for the Eagles and their fanbase...it's always good to see a team win the Owl for the first time.

Fitting that Brady threw for 500+ yards and STILL lost because the defense was an absolute disaster. I hope it royally pissed him off.

Jesus Fucking Tap-Dancing Christ on Toast Points! Devin Nunes is the dumbest dumbfuck in the Dumbfuckistan. I mean he's not a mouth-breathing dolt like Louie Gohmert, DEVIN is an entirely different level of stupid. The picture of Popadopolous has been on on the interwebz for fucking ever. Yet DEVIN is there repeating the easily refuted lie. I wonder if he finds living in Cheetolini's ass crack comfy. It must be nice and warm.

Comment by trojanrabbit on 02/05/2018 15:22:46
I was hoping to watch one quarter of the Owl in glorious monochrome on my now 70 year old set. But apparently something went wrong in the time since I last powered it up, even though the picture was decent, it was running at maximum brightness and I couldn't control it. Hoping it's something "simple" as opposed to a shorted CRT (although there are ways of getting around that too).

And with the way things are going, it's not like most of us can afford to retire. Replacing pensions with 401k's has turned out to be a big step backwards.
