17 Dead in Florida
Author: BobR    Date: 02/15/2018 14:03:29

It is sad, nauseating, disgusting, and depressing that I have to write this blog... again. Once again, a deadly school shooting dominates the news cycle. Seventeen kids died in Parkland Florida yesterday, in what might be the new Valentine's Day massacre. Once again, a person who showed the warning signs of being a threat was still allowed to have guns, especially the kind that have no place in our society.

Already this year, there have been 18 school shootings, and we are only 45 days into the year. That's one every 2.5 days. That is insanity. This is NOT what our founding fathers fought for.

The 2nd Amendment has been a golden ticket for the NRA and every yahoo who wants to shoot up trees in their back yard. The NRA has used it and any attempts by "liberal gun grabbers" to limit firepower (and/or access to it) to scare people into believing that only they (the NRA) can save the populace from being able to defend themselves. The Supreme Court got this wrong years ago, and we are WAY past correcting it, and sending the death merchants down a black hole.

The full verbiage of the 2nd Amendment is rarely quoted by the "my cold dead hands" types:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The "militia" mentioned in the 2nd Amendment is referenced in the Constitution several times, including Article I, Section 8:
To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

Article II, Section 2:
The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States;

Of course - this is all meaningless, since DC vs Heller has neutered any common-sense interpretation of the Constitution. Since the SCOTUS has determined that owning a gun to protect one's home and property is a right, the only option to overturn that is a constitutional amendment to do so. That has as much a chance of happening as one that declares businesses aren't people.

Which only leaves creating laws that make gun ownership difficult and onerous, but not impossible, and/or limiting the type of gun one could consider to be used for "protecting one's home and property". That is slightly more doable.

There have been 239 school shootings since the murder of 20 elementary school kids at Sandy Hook school, with 438 shot and 138 kids and teachers killed. This of course doesn't include the non-school shootings (such as Las Vegas). How much more blood must the NRA (and the congresspeople who take their money) get on their hands before they reluctantly agree that regulations are required?

Don't answer that - I think I already know.

Until control of the NRA is seize back for the normal people who get that there is a problem, this will go on.

No time to talk about mass murderers. The NRA is too busy laundering Russian rubles for Donnie Littledick.

Oh....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MALA!!!

TRIGGER WARNING

Can we stop conflating this:

"any time a firearm discharges a live round inside a school building or on a school campus or grounds, as documented by the press and, when necessary, confirmed through further inquiries with law enforcement or school officials,"

With seventeen kids being killed in a school. When you say that there have been X number of school shoots since the January when there is a mass casualty shooting you are not being accurate.

Okay I am done now. I am going to sit in my corner and glare at people. Its been a morning.

Are you seriously trying to say that a gun fired in a school shouldn't be worthy of attention if no one was killed?

IF there is a shooting in a school, it's a school shooting.

I know you are in a bad mood, we all are -- but this seems a bit insensitive, at least to myself.

Eight of those 18 shootings that you think are irrelevant resulted in no injury or death. The other 10 - yes, injuries and/or death. So hey - 10 Mondo-approved™ shootings in 45 days. That is SO much better.

BTW in case you missed it in the other thread, I'm gonna be dedicating my Twitch stream tonite to discussing this shit, hopefully get others to take a stand as well, and to direct people to charity efforts for the victims.

Political chatter is usually frowned upon by game streamers, but I feel like it'd be a total injustice to not speak up. Then again, I'm still pretty bad about doing spontaneous conversation by myself heh.

In other news: Taylor Swift’s Lyrics Are Too Lame to Copyright, Judge Hilariously Rules

In the early 2000s, popular culture was adequately suffused with the concepts of players and haters to render the phrases ‘playas… gonna play’ or ‘haters… gonna hate,’ standing on their own, no more creative than ‘runners gonna run’; ‘drummers gonna drum’; or ‘swimmers gonna swim,’” he wrote. “The concept of actors acting in accordance with their essential nature is not at all creative; it is banal

Mondo has been a-pondering. I was being a jerk. I think sometimes my rationalist data parsing personality gets in the way of things. There is a time and a place for that and when kids are killed it isn't that time.

SKETCHY AF, indeed.
Some with long personal and business ties to Russia practically elbowed their way into the campaign.

Manafort, a longtime Republican operative, had not been involved in a U.S. political campaign for years until he tracked down one of Trump’s oldest friends, Thomas J. Barrack Jr., not long after Trump lost the Iowa caucuses and asked to be connected.

“Paul came to me and said, ‘I really need to get to [Trump], I think I can be really effective at the convention,’ ” Barrack said in a recent interview.

Skechity Sketch

After leaving the Trump-boosting nonprofit America First Policies in March—as former FBI Director James Comey officially announced an investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign team and Russian officials—Gates is now working directly for Tom Barrack, according to eight sources in and around the Trump White House.

Barrack, a millionaire and former Trump fundraiser who went on to lead the presidential inaugural committee, is a longtime friend of the president who still sends Trump friendly emails to remind him that, “YOU ROCK!” The Trump ally was also instrumental in bringing Manafort into Trump’s political orbit during the campaign.

Since the inauguration, Barrack has remained in close contact with the president as one of his top outside advisers, and has visited the president multiple times. Barrack’s name has been floated for senior White House positions, including chief of staff.

And when Barrack stops by to meet Trump in the West Wing, he has brought Gates with him, according to multiple sources familiar with the meeting. Late last week, Barrack was again at the White House, with Gates in tow, two White House officials confirmed.
