Lost man in a lost campaign. Where in the world is John McCain?
Author: Raine    Date: 10/02/2008 12:23:51

At this point, Most of us are aware that the Senate passed a version of the Financial Rescue Bill. (I believe that is what the kids are calling it these days.) I am sure that we will hear more details about it today and tomorrow as it heads to the House for their review and vote.

Yesterday, I watched C-Span, and saw some amazing speeches from our fine Democratic Senators. I must admit I don't know much about the bill, but they certainly inspired me. Some details:
Treasury’s $700 billion rescue plan for the financial markets passed the Senate Wednesday night, giving the White House new confidence it has turned the corner and can win final approval from Congress by Friday.

The 74-25 roll call endorsing the package featured a rare joint-return appearance by the two major presidential candidates, Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain, both of whom supported the measure.

The Senate galleries, usually empty at night, were packed with visitors on the left and right, and senators voted from their desks as if to underscore the seriousness of the legislation. Shortly before the vote, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tried to capture the moment for posterity, calling this breakthrough “one of the finest moments in the history of the Senate. This is the kind of vote we are sent by our people to cast.”

Majority Leader Harry Reid added that “each United States senator this evening is facing a critical test of leadership.”

A second vote was needed immediately after to complete final passage, but that is not in doubt. The first vote Wednesday night was the bigger test and the administration is betting that with this bipartisan showing, it can marginalize the remaining opposition in the House, due to vote Friday....

[T]he revised Senate package blends in more than $100 billion in popular tax breaks as well as aid to rural schools important to House Republicans. And to build support among small town community banks, the bill raises the cap on insured deposits from $100,000 to $250,000.
I am sure our members here, along with our progressive radio friends will find the devil in those details. Please note, tho, that there seem to be no 'money quotes' from John McCain. Granted, I may have missed him... But I have not been able to find what he said on the house floor, or anything after, before or during his time in DC yesterday.

I also saw last night Senator Barack Obama giving a speech on the senate floor. What I did not see was John McCain. One would think, that during this bipartisan debate about a very important issue facing America, McCain would have spoken. He did after all suspend his campaign last week and run oh-so-quickly to save the country from certain economic meltdown, didn't he? Didn't? ok, well he ran right away after canceling on Lettermen and giving Katie Couric an interview. Then he ran quickly. Why, we nearly had to postpone democracy it was so very important.

So where was he yesterday? Oh, he gave a fabulous interview to the Des Moines Register, He then proceeded to praise Democratic Prsident Harry Truman, where he promptly gets lost on stage:

I am getting to a point of deep concern here. I am VERY happy that Obama is shooting upwards in the polls, and I think that we will have to work very hard for the next 33 days. There is however a frightening chance that this man can still win this election. We have been hearing that now that it's the fourth quarter in the 'game' things are bound to get craptacularly dirty. This man is not well. He is not healty.

And that scares me. I call for John McCain to release his medical records NOW and to get to a doctor because between the erratic behavior during a crisis last week, sometimes incoherent speech, a mean spirited nasty interview (from a newspaper that endorsed him), his missing from giving a speech on the senate floor, I don't want him as president. I want stability from a leader in unstable times and John McCain is just not doing that. I want a person who can make decisions in times of crisis and not run away like Sir Robin in Monty Python.

Tonite is the big VP debate, I am sure the news cycle will be centered around that, but I call on you, tell me, Where in the world is John McCain?

:peace: and
Raine

Raine - I really like this post. Correct me if I am wrong, but, we (well, I) care for the PERSON, John McCain - however, our country is too important to trust to him... with all of the unknowns? And scarier - the KNOWNS!

Comment by Raine on 10/02/2008 12:41:26
I agree. At this point I am really concerned about these unknowns.

With BOTH people on the republican ticket, truthfully.

Mornin' everybody! One more day and I'm off for fall break. I'll actually get to listen to Steph next week!

Also, according to Electoral-vote.com, it's a 338-185-15 race today. What I find most surprising is that Georgia AND Texas have moved into potential play. IF you take all the barely and weak Republican states, as well as NC's tie. Barack could wind up with 435 electoral votes come November 4.

I can has REAL mandate?

I have to say - and I'm obviously not the "happy-clappy liberal" type...

I really have hope -- seeing the poll numbers in the electoral map.

I hope.

Obama crossed over into enemy territory.

He walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain.

McCain shook it, but with a “go away” look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama.

I found John McCain... he was on MSNBC a few minutes ago, and all he is saying now... is "She'll be just fine, just fine" over and over.

And boy -- he looked miserable.

He is really a pr*ck.

Even during the most tense moments of the primaries, when Obama and Clinton were on the senate floor they were cordial.

And he is supposed to bring this country together? Like I said, I am concerned about this man... mentally and physically.

Right-Wing definition of "gotcha question" --- any question Palin doesn't know the answer to...

What really gets to me is that when Chimpy tried to burn his child HIS CHILD!

McCain gave Chimpy a hug.

Obama told THE TRUTH.

And McCain has to be EMBARRASSED into shaking his hand.

I have no knowledge that McCain is a racEist.

I know he has said some racEist shit in his life but this episode makes me wonder.

Morning all! :coffee:

So tonight we get to see what all the hype was about. Was it just a regular ol' Alaskan snow job? Is this lady really as special, knowledgeable and motivated to lead as trusty old John McCain says she is?

Okay then.. I think I'm gonna order up a pizza and a six pack and watch some UFC instead.

Yes! Absolutely!

No I'm not being sarcastic. I wish more people would consider casting their votes for third party candidates. Then just maybe we'd have some real conversation in this damn country about our real issues instead of this constant bickering between the greedies and the pussies..

(arrr! someone alert Hannity - scoop is a angry unhinged unAmerican socialist sympathiser!)

I saw and heard that. They were talking about it on Morning Edition this AM. Considering how Saxby gained the office, I won't be sad to see him take the fall.
