Can't believe it had to be said.

Yesterday, ahead of the NATO Summit, this happened:
Lawmakers on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted in favor of a motion supporting NATO, as President Trump continues to criticize the alliance ahead of his summit in Europe.

The nonbinding motion, which came as the Senate voted to reconcile its version of the annual defense policy bill with that of the House, expresses the Senate’s support for NATO and calls on negotiators to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to it.

The 97-2 vote in the Senate comes as Trump heads to Brussels. He will also travel to the United Kingdom and meet one-on-one with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki during his trip.

GOP Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Mike Lee (Utah) voted against the measure.

Democratic Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.) proposed the measure, calling the U.S. support for NATO "ironclad."

That it had to be said is sad, troubling and deeply worrisome. Perhaps a little bit of 'no shit Sherlock'? No, this morning happened.
“Germany, as far as I’m concerned, is captive to Russia because it’s getting so much of its energy from Russia,” Trump told NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in a fiery on-camera exchange that was nearly without precedent in the history of the post-World War II alliance.

“We have to talk about the billions and billions of dollars that’s being paid to the country we’re supposed to be protecting you against,” Trump said, referring to European purchases of Russian natural gas.
It should be noted that Angela Merkel was not in attendance at the breakfast. he will be meeting with her later on this morning. She has issued a statement.

Just a reminder:

How to unpack this?

- tRump confuses international trade with geo-politics
- tRump is projecting
- Does this mean we are captive to Canada, since we let them build a pipeline through our country?

What a complete asshole. I am sure he sees people protesting him and thinking he must be doing something right to get them all riled up.

I have been upset with people, angry at them, frustrated, infuriated, and more but until now I have never actually hated another living human being on the planet and would not feel any remorse even if they go a paper cut and stuck their hand in lemon juice. I don't like that I've let this happen, it feels like failure.

Mornin' all..

So I heard China may be considering a plan that involves lobbying other countries affected by our boneheaded tariffs to join together & multilaterally fight against us.

He really has no idea the kind of shitburger he's about to force us all to eat, does he?

Do not do that to yourself, Mala.

That is even less healthy than denying how you feel.

I take it as a sign of small hope that the senate passed this resolution as disgusting as it is that it needed to happen. this ever so small pushback is directed at Trump.

It's pretty clear that 's role here is to cause a NATO breakup, because that's what Putin has wanted to happen for probably a few decades.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

Mala, I find that admitting my feelings helps me. I want to see some politicians exposed tried, convicted and sent to prison.

As for Trump, he should be glad that no one brought up his finances and the Russian oligarchs. He should be especially glad that none of the people at the NATO summit was channeling Rude Pundit's likely delivery of such a speech.

If he announces that the US is leaving NATO, how long before the rest of the US media and politicians finally say that he is a Russian puppet?
