It's a Clothing Gap.
Author: Raine    Date: 10/23/2008 12:25:05

Clothes. To some they matter; to others - not so much. In this case, I think it really matters. Sarah Palin, on the RNC dime spent a lot of money on Clothes in September. About $150,000. It leaves questions tho.
The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use.

Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment on Monday, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs.

Now, the RNC has said that the clothes will be donated to charity. Which is great, but by then they will be USED clothes. They won't be worth anywhere NEAR the cost of original purchase. Sarah has done this before... remember her charging the state of Alaska? That was close to $50,000. Once again the Palin family is living high off the hog (with lipstick as well!) on the taxpayers dime. Talk about welfare fraud.

I bring this all up because also this week we have been hearing the meme of not only 'Joe the Plumber', but also 'Ann the engineer', 'Ed the policeman', 'Sue the sectretary' -- Some guy named Tito... McCain/Palin have been touting how bad Obama will be for America, how Obama will tax us more how Obama doesn't understand -- the list goes on.

On the other side of things, we just had a 700 billion dollar bailout. While John MCCain talks of cutting the 'pork' in washington, or having a spending freeze in DC, his running mate went on a shopping spree that most of us will never see in our lifetime. 150,000 thousand dollars is 2-3 years salary for people like 'Ed the Policeman' or 'Frank the Fireman'. It is a truly disgusting image of the have and have nots.

John McCain wants you to believe that he can fix this economy. Well, I ask -- when he and the GOP are busy giving out $150,000 welfare checks to one woman, what are people to believe? The right went apoplectic when they learned about John Edwards' 400 dollar haircut. Where is the outrage now? How many mouths can 150,000 thousand dollars feed? How many children would that have clothed?

It's a wardrobe malfunction of the worst kind. I look at the RNC and feel like they have just flipped the bird to America and told us all to eat cake. That's right. It's the modern day version of "Let them Eat Cake". Well as I have been joking here this week, I won't eat cake. I like pie, and today I am going to vote for the Man who will allow me a slice of that pie. Barack Obama.

In the mean time, take a look at this video, and tell me, who is better at running the economy? Really, sometimes clothes DO tell a lot about a person, and I think this video says it all:

That's right, "Mommy buy's everything at the Gap" For those that can't watch videos... here is a simple picture:

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/44865/thumbs/s-OBAMA-SHOES-large.jpg

It's time America got real about who can really turn this country around, and who REALLY understands what we are going thru. Sarah Palin does not care, and John McCain is too out of touch, the RNC is more concerned with the image it projects and NO ONE benefits from this particular bailout, except maybe Sarah (who will probably have to pay taxes on Gifts received from a political campaign -- but that is another story for another day, no doubt).

:peace: and
Raine

Morning all! Ready to knock another day off the countdown to victory calendar?!

I've got a quick anecdote for'yall this morning from the old online republic.. Back in the days when the Internet was still text-based and we used dialup systems, someone wrote a program called "America Held Hostage" which basically was a ANSI-block billboard for Rush Limbaugh that counted down the remaining days of Clinton's presidency (Version 2.0 was released after Clinton won a second term). I find it ironic that after those good years, and the past eight years of absolute ridiculousness, that the tables have turned right back around on people like this programmer and blathering drug-addled Limbaugh and proven that their legacy, like that of George Bush, will be one of hatred, greed and disregard for humanity while Clinton's will remain one of prosperity, caring and equal opportunity.

It's just reminding everyone that Mr. McCain was a POW.

It does paint him in a sympathetic light again, look at all his sacrifice! (never mind that the wife he loved very much in that video almost died in a car wreck and he ditched her...)

Oh the right wing is going to eat this up... the Hero meme WILL come back. The whole jingoistic he's a POW and an AMerican Hero, and they sympathies and the flaven... not to mention the ultimate distraction from EVERYTHING that McCAin has done wrong, including the 150,00 thousand dollar Sarah Palin welfare check.

THAT is kinda what I meeant. Personally I think they pulled the ULTIMATE POW card out here.

(and I do still think it is premature Elecualtion)

We were playing with some of Javi's Webkinz...he's got both a pink and a white French Poodle. I can't speak French, but I can make "French Noises", and one of them happened to say Guy Lafleur!

There was no going back after that.

The righties would love that. Although by the way he phrased it, he also counted Fox News and himself in that lot which is definitely true that Fox News is a corrupt news organization.

Sounds like the right-wing is projecting their flaws again.

Tips from the 4H Health Department heading down the stretch...

What is Election Exhaustion?

Election exhaustion is one phase of voterthermia, a condition that occurs when a candidate produces more lies than the electorate can dissipate. In its advanced state, election stroke, medical attention is absolutely necessary because of the threat of death. Minor cases aren't life threatening and occur regularly, especially in primary season, but should be treated seriously because election exhaustion can quickly turn into election stroke if allowed to progress.

The pundits needn't be hot for voterthermia to occur. Lies can be created artificially by propaganda or talking points or naturally through listening to the candidates or reading their websites. But as the electorate gets warm, your margin for error decreases, because your spin tolerance will decrease without you doing anything active. This is especially true early in the year when you aren't used to the silly season. Those in a district with an unchallenged incumbent are particularly vulnerable…

To be fair, Obama really hasn't done much in the senate economically. But, no one's perfect.

And i love that he says Palin as more "Economic" experience than the other three. I would think both Biden and McCain have tons of Economic experience being in the senate for well over 20 years.

Ah, ice cream.

Sadly, my hometown ice cream shop was sold a few years ago and is now...a Dunkin' Donuts.

The really good one here in Waltham sold out years ago and is now high-priced houses nobody can afford.

Dairy Joy in Weston (better known for their fried clams, actually) and Cabot's in Newton are still in business.

But then there's Richardson's in Middleton, MA....they front a dairy farm, the cows are out back. Now that's good ice cream!

What is that 3 or 4 locally owned, been around for generations family bidnesses? I wish Jacksonville encouraged and cherished those. I live in if you translate it from the Seminole "Land of the franchised national chain operation."

The one thing I liked when I would go out to the East End is that there were no chains once you got past Bridgehampton other than supermarkets and gas stations. There aren't even fast food restaurants out in that area of Long Island. I also know many people felt it was the end of an era when Kmart opened in Manhattan (there is still one in Penn Station).

Comment by Raine on 10/23/2008 16:55:52
Conservates talk about Why they'll vote for Obama. Pretty powerful, imo.

I bought batteries at that K-Mart. What a dump!

I think it was the end of an era when Times Square became Las Vegas Strip East. When they cleaned it up and opened some nice restaurants, it was fine, but now it's obnoxious with the stores and the flaven. It was much more fascinating when it was creepy and scary.

Comment by livingonli on 10/23/2008 17:12:34
Gentrification and the chain stores/restaurants have sucked the life from Manhattan. I even miss the old out of town newstand that used to be in Times Square that was a good place to see newspapers and magazines from other places.

Just a short walk from us is Paolo's Gelato. Yes, that's the fancy stuff, VERY librul-elite... and delish... and - sadly - expensive. We also have Zestos, although that's kind of a chain. I love getting their chocolate malts, and love that they have a "Heckuva Job Brownie" sundae on the menu. Gorins, Jakes, and Greenwood all used to be local "chains" (if you can call <10 stores a chain), but Gorin's stopped doing ice cream (now just sandwiches), and Greenwoods became a wholesaler. There's still a few Jake's around; they like to specialize in strange flavors ("chocolate slap yo mamma" is delish).
