Thank-you
Author: BobR    Date: 11/05/2008 12:28:23

Thank-you America...

In your darkest hour, you chose hope over fear, light over darkness, the future over the past. You turned out in numbers too large to ignore or suppress or steal. You saw the importance of this moment and did what so many have failed to do in the past - show up and vote.

America has turned a page to a new chapter in this infancy of our third millennium. It's the morning after in America. The hurricane of the last 8 years is moving on and the sun is shining. There's a lot of damage to clean up, but like the good people in the small towns across America, we offer each other our hands and our sweat and whatever else we may have to give to help our neighbors in need. The sparks we've created together will shine a light down the hallways of the next century.

Thank-you Obama for seeing the responsibility we're asking you to accept, and - knowing the enormity of the weight - willingly hoist it upon your shoulders and ask for our help to share the burden.

Thank-you to all of you on this blog. You've helped keep me sane, let me spew my turgid prose upon this electronic page... You are all important nodes in this vast electronic web, spreading the message in all directions. Although it may feel this way at times, we are not an echo chamber... we are a way station on the information superhighway, and our voices are carried on by all those we contact on a daily basis. We are a voice in the crowd, but it is all those voices in the crowd together that have brought us to this momentous occasion:

President-elect Barack Obama.

Yes, we could.
Yes, we did.

Thank-you

YES, WE CAN!

*drinks kool-aid*

PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!

Random is more than just a little out of it at the moment.

Comment by Grumpymann on 11/05/2008 12:46:10
The Campaign was nothing it was a cake walk.

Now the REAL work will begin soon.

We need to clean out the filth and muck, now only to defend ourselves against the most sleazy shit slinging RightWingNutJobs this country has ever seen.

On a personal note my thanks you YOU Bob. You gave me a place to vent my bile. My thanks to Raine for ... well keeping me as civil as I managed to be. To WP for making me smile with kind words. Tri for his calm intelligence and reminding me of my proud scouting past. Liv for being Liv. Shaneo for making me laugh. Mondo for his quiet strength. Star for shinning. Velveeta for for her calming affect on my often volcanic moods. Random for being ... well random. Scoop, Clint, Ibitsy, Will, M you were not forgotten. Thank you all for being here and a part of my life.

Now that the group hug is done and gone "Lets get to work!" Real work not "Hard work."

Morning, Comrades!

My face hurts.

Seriously....I was standing in the shower this morning, still tasting the cigar I smoked at midnight last night, wondering if it was all for real.

Then I got that silly grin again, and my face hurt. Really.

Has it been that long since we could smile and be happy that those all-important "smile" muscles have atrophied?

Well....we made the hurdle. Like our ticker says, Bush will leave office in 76 days.

Back in July, I rolled the dice and made a reservation at a motel in Greenbelt, Maryland. I'm going to be on the mall January 20 to see history with my own eyes.

I can hardly believe it's true.

:danke:

<-- this belongs to all of us again!

Comment by BobR on 11/05/2008 14:47:32
Voting results of the 4 closest-to-Atlanta counties:

.......Total.......Precincts...Barack....John.......Bob

.......precincts...reporting...Obama.....McCain.....Barr

Cobb.......188.....173.........65,804....94,719.....2005

DeKalb.....196.....120.........57,711....23,400......792

Fulton.....344.....232.........80,823....58,249....1,158

Gwinnett...165.....161.........68,214....100,353...1,727

The still uncounted precincts are largely because of the count of early votes (from what I've read). This means that Saxby's numbers will likely go further down... not enough to lose, but a runoff looks like a certainty. I only hope that we get the turnout for that...

Good morning everyone

I still stayed up late. Hopefully, I can get a day job and get my body back on my normal schedule.

On a side note, I cast my vote for Obama on the Working Families line in New York State as a progressive who wants this country to move to the left and away from the far right.

And unfortunately Long Islanders are still stuck with Peter King, and Carolyn McCarthy's opponent made a big mistake by modeling his campaign logo after McCain's. :haha:

Hi Shelagh. I hope you're back with us. I missed Mondo and Shelagh's calls by that much.

McCain did sell his soul to become President and by veering so hard to the right and coarsening the dialogue, he contributed to the problem. Maybe by losing the election, he realized the damage he did to his reputation, but the reaction of the yahoos in the crowd show those ugly tendencies of that 20-25% that would still want to see this country under right-wing Republican one party rule.

I just hope that maybe in a year or two, there can be a vote in California to reverse Prop 8 and beat back the wacky fundies.

Comment by Scoopster on 11/05/2008 15:40:27
Hmm.. there may be a way out on this Prop 8 thing.

When the gay marriage issue when before the CA Supreme Court, the ruling was that marriage equality was based on an existing provision in the state's constitution.

Since this amendment would revise the state's constitution to remove marriage equality, technically it should require a 2/3 supermajority vote to pass.

So now there's going to be a challenge of Prop 8 that it is not a new constitutional provision, but a revision. Oh boy this could be pretty big!

Alaska has either a state law or a line in their constitution that says Senate replacements are done by special election. So sorry Sarah!

There was a change in the Alaska constitution a couple of years ago after the then-current governor stuck his daughter in as a replacement senator. I got it straight from my friend in AK.

There's a bunch of DK diaries on it, based on the county results from the BOE.. Chambliss leads by a little but he's still under 50% with about 8 precints in Fulton and Dekalb Counties not reported yet. That should be enough to reel in Martin's deficit and force a runoff.

Oh and there's something about 600k early votes that are still being figured into the total.

After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said.

this part slayed me:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family--clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

I take it you're referring to Fatty and the Forehead (or Dennis and Callahan) 'EEI's really nothing more than the Boston Herald on the air nowadays.

Entercom's running into a bit of financial difficulty, helped along by the indigestion from the huge Red Sox contract - with the real possibility of losing arguably WEEI's biggest star Glenn Ordway, who was incensed when he found out how much Howie Carr was making. Hopefully that indigestion is fatal.
