The Transparency is Apparent
Author: Raine    Date: 10/24/2019 13:11:20

GOP claim that the decision to storm the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, also known as a SCIF, was because they wanted the impeachment proceeding to be more transparent. They want all lawmakers access to all hearing. As we all know, even in normal times SCIF meetings do not work that way.
Mieke Eoyang, a former House Intelligence Committee staffer who managed meetings inside the same SCIF during the Obama administration, told me: “This is the kind of thing that, for people who work in national security, makes our hair stand on end.”

The protest demonstrated how rank-and-file lawmakers can be one of government’s biggest cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

Members of Congress are high-value targets for Russian and Chinese hackers who routinely go after their personal devices and email accounts, but lawmakers don't get any special protection for those devices and often don’t have enough training or savvy to protect them themselves.

Google, for example, informed an unspecified number of senators that foreign hackers were targeting their gmail accounts last year.

Even worse, it seems that this was a request from the White House. This was published yesterday:

At this point, it should be abundantly clear that the only reason why they are pulling this dangerous idiocy is because they don't know what is being said and as a result, those involved cannot coordinate their stories. They aren't acting like they are protecting innocent people. What even more reprehensible is many of the people who led the 'protest' charge are actually on the very committees allowed to be present during yesterday's SCIF testimony.

They want people to forget that all of this is going to be made public in a few weeks.

This morning, from judge Napolitano, of all people said on F&F:

They say they want transparency, and boy they sure are showing their asses. At the same time, they are breaking the law and making the entire nation less safe.

I almost used that for the blog this morning.

This is so infuriating.

This entire thread, from a law professor puts together how I am feeling after yesterday. This is really really bad.

Consequences HAVE to happen.

WSJ : Trump can't be impeached because he's too stupid to properly execute extortion.

Erm.. while I would normally tend to agree that he's too stupid, let's be honest he's been doing extortion schemes for YEARS in league with the National Enquirer and he knows VERY WELL how to execute them.

That is the worst defense of all.

He "accidentally" committed a crime because he's so incompetent? Isn't "ignorance of the law is no excuse" a thing?

I just did a little look-see at Matt Gaetz to see which part of Florida he represents. He is the congress critter for the Panhandle, which explains why he so unhinged. Also, he's a member of the House Judiciary Committee. This makes his stunt even more galling.

Good morning, bloggers!

I fear that the GOP has devolved into the morality of the Party in 1984, where O'Brien said that the party has only one goal: power. These members of Congress violated their oath to defend and protect the Constitution by entering a secure hearing room.

As for extortion and corruption, the Wall Street Journal fails to recognize that those subjects are among the few things where Trump shows any degree of mastery. I fear for our Republic.

As for myself, I have a late start today due to parent teacher conferences.

My school, without our principal who left to become interim superintendent, is falling apart faster than the Eastern Bloc did during the late 1980s. There are major fights, with some of my students getting 10 day suspensions. I told a student last week that maybe I could help her log a friend into an online program. The young woman's response was "If you grab that lap top, I will pop you in the eye." While she was removed from my class, she is still in the school.

So, I am checking locally, in Chicago, and I will check the Los Angeles and Boston areas. (The latter may have to wait until later in the school year as I have arranged to stay with a friend in LA for several months if I get a job.) I am weary of Indiana, a state where the governor can find $50 million for a pig barn at the state fair but no money for teacher raises.
