Thanksgiving Eve
Author: BobR    Date: 2019-11-27 13:00:00

So tomorrow is Turkey Day, a day when we are supposed to think about all the things we're thankful for. Ever since Nov 2016, those moments have been few and far between. It seemed that tRump's claim he could shoot someone on 5th Ave in NYC and get away with it was bearing true. Evangelicals are treating him like the second coming of Jesus. Backwoods rednecks are believing he's just like one of them (in reality - it's only the white supremacy part).

In fact - it's that white race Uber Alles aspect of tRump that appears to be the main attraction for his cult supporters. Well - that, and being an obnoxious asshole to "own the libs".

It's pretty obvious that the only reason the Republicans in Congress aren't flushing him like the turd he is, is because either he's got something on them, or they see him as a useful idiot that they can manipulate to do their bidding. That includes Lindsey Graham (the former) and Moscow Mitch (the latter).

With the recent revelations that Rep. Nunes was working with Ghouliani's Goons, it's clear that the entire party is bought and paid for by Russia, via the NRA and the previous Ukraine leadership. Their only motivation is maintaining power, and it's apparent they'll do anything to hold on - regardless of ethics or legality.

That's why this year I am thankful for Rep. Schiff and the rest of the Democrats who finally spined-up and are holding tRump's feet to the fire. I am thankful for the career diplomats who have put their patriotism over party. I am thankful for those who work for our government and try to do the best job they can, regardless of who is in the White House. I am thankful for those who still believe (and live/work by) the notion that we are a country of laws - not a country of men.

It's been a bright spot in a dismal couple of years. I hope it keeps getting brighter.

What are you thankful for this year?

Good morning, bloggers!!

I am thankful for this community that has survived many changes as well as my other communities. (My gaming group also has been through a number of changes.)

Last night, I was at an interfaith community service with several of my fellow Jews, as well as Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians. It was a moving service. The donations collected went to Sojourner Truth House in Gary, that works with homeless women and children and is one of Northwest Indiana's largest food pantry.

I am sorry that my absence here has been more notable than my presence as work is getting busy and worse. My co-teacher, who should be in helping special education students, is being pulled for testing, conferences, and to fill in for absent teachers. Student referrals have skyrocketed. I was struck in the back by a cough drop Monday and called security. No student admitted to doing it, but one gave me the name of the quarterback. I was thankful that I called security. A few minutes later, two girls jumped another girl a few doors down in the next hall. (I have a whistle with me which I used to help clear the crowd and summon more security.) One of the girls was wrestled down by three security guards in the room against mine.

So, I will likely see about getting a letter of reference next week and trying to move on. I do have licenses in Illinois, Indiana, and California. The Massachusetts license technically ended but the state said it never activated. So, I will see where the new year leads me.

Raine, I am trying to do so. If anyone can think of a state that pays decently and has good schools, I am willing to move. (The average teacher salary in Indiana is about $50,000 and all the surrounding states -- even Kentucky -- pay more. ) I fear that someone will get seriously hurt. I plan to do some local job hunting this week and go into high gear with the new year.

We lost our principal who became interim superintendent. Now, the kids fear no one and it is getting worse. We had one day where 700 of the 1075 students were out and referrals have increased about three fold from last year.

I hope to be gone sooner than later but I can tough it out until June. (Several teachers expect layoffs due to declining enrollment and revenues.)

Hi guys

I'm going to extend Blogger Joe to over the weekend and organize names on Monday instead of Saturday. Just want to make sure I have everyone's info who would like to participate

Thanks!! I look forward to Blogger Joe!!

I used to have a long term substitute teacher position at Aspire College Academy in Gary. A former employee, whom I remember, has been charged with child molestation. Maybe I should sleep and try to wake up in a better alternate universe.

Good.....afternoon?

Obviously I am thankful for all you guys, and that the Mrs & I were able to see some of you at Bob & Raine's get-together (and we definitely want to be there next year)

I'm thankful that we haven't had any politics-related flareups in our family and I expect a fun, restful Thanksgiving.

So I'm home today because I ordered a couple of Shoo-fly pies for Thanksgiving because I wasn't feeling up to making a bunch of cookies with "helpful" felines around. They were a big hit last Christmas so I ordered some and I moved my vacation schedule around to be home today when they arrived.

Since the box was clearly labeled "THIS END UP" and "KEEP FLAT" you know how it was delivered. Naturally all the filling moved over to the side. I can only imagine what would have happened if it had been sitting around in that position instead of me getting it almost as soon as it was dropped off. Anyway, I pushed the filling back into position, rewrapped the pies and we'll still enjoy them tomorrow. I sent Amazon feedback to the vendor just to let them know. I don't know what else they could have done except maybe to gyro-stabilize the box.

I'm not going to post it but our 'beloved' Cadet Bonespurs just tweeted a picture of his head photoshopped on Rocky's (Sylvester Stallone) body.

Wouldn't this be more accurate?

Will, might a career change be in order? It worked wonders for me.

Seriously - I'd be glad to have you in Boston.

Hmmm.... Very interesting

A former Deutchebank executive who signed off on tRump's loans "hanged" himself in Malibu last week.

I suppose that's better than getting a polonium tea or falling down an elevator shaft onto some bullets.

The last three years haven't been that good to me. I had hoped things would get better for me, and right now they are getting worse. Maybe things would have been better if the orange shitgibbon had not been 'elected". I really wish I hadn't taken the buyout.

That might be tempting. I should PM you on pay and benefits, but I do love teaching. Also, I should check with the Massachusetts Department of Education on my license. Technically, the 5 year license expired in 2017. However, an official told me it was still valid as it was never active. Maybe I can get it renewed.

Boston or Los Angeles are good choices for me as I have friends there. A friend suggested checking Las Vegas, but I have only one contact there. (Also, years back a teacher at a job fair said he worked there but that the school classrooms are over packed.)

And I was just notified by the company (Amish Tastes) that they issued a refund. Hopefully they'll square it with FedEx.
