"Three major evils—the evil of racism, the evil of poverty, and the evil of war. These are the three things that I want to deal with today. Now let us turn first to the evil of racism. There can be no gainsaying of the fact that racism is still alive all over America. Racial injustice is still the Negro’s burden and America’s shame. And we must face the hard fact that many Americans would like to have a nation which is a democracy for white Americans but simultaneously a dictatorship over black Americans. We must face the fact that we still have much to do in the area of race relations".

We haven't learned, have we? These were we spoken at the Hungry Forum In Atlanta by Dr. King on May 10, 1967.

I learned about this yesterday while watching Jonathan Capehart on his new 'Sunday Show' yesterday and it stayed with me. This is the 3-minute segment. He says what needs to be said and much better than I could.

Racism was only the first of the three evils that Dr. King want to combat, and here we are almost 54 years later and little has changed. I read this essay over the weekend and it gives me hope that maybe that change is beginning, finally.
This is not the chaos of the beginning of something. This is the chaos of the end of something.

Because the 40 years of this plutocratic takeover — of the ideology that said if you're torn between doing what's good for money and what's good for people, always do what’s good for money; these stories about lazy workers and welfare queens; and any number of other fraudulent tales that were meant to justify life in the Hamptons — if I allow myself to feel this way on a good day, it all actually feels like it's burning down.

And on matters of race and identity, likewise, the Trump era doesn't have the crackle of a launch. It has been a mourning. A mourning for white power. A mourning for a time when simply to be white and show up was enough. A mourning for an era in which simply to be a man, and not necessarily an especially capable one, could get you ahead of other people. A mourning for a time when you could be the default idea of an American and not have to share your toys.

We must understand that what we've been living through is backlash. Backlash. It's not the engine of history. It is the revolt against the engine of history. Then we might remember — just to pat ourselves on the back for a second — that what we are actually endeavoring to do right now is to become a kind of society that has seldom, if ever, existed in history. Which is become a majority-minority, democratic superpower.

(snip)

We are living through a revolt against the future. The future will prevail.

“Cowardice asks the question: ’Is it safe?’ Expediency asks the question, ‘Is it politic?’ Vanity asks the question, ‘Is it popular?’ But Conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’ And there are times when you must take a stand that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but you must do it because it is right.” Dr. King on May 10, 1967.

Greetings, comrades.

Well - we have lost one of our furbabies over the weekend. Poor Miss Fantasia quit eating on Friday. She declined rapidly over the course of the day Saturday, and we did end up sending her to her maker on Saturday evening.

They couldn't really diagnose what was wrong. It was a suspected intestinal blockage or twist, and while correctible via surgery, she was nearly six years old and the prognosis for recovery would not have been good to begin with.

Poor thing. She was showing no real outward signs of physical discomfort, but as a prey animal, they generally cover that up until the bitter end.

Lemonade remains.

I'm really very sorry, Tri.

I hope that we will see the future prevail soon as I am still seeing people claim that Antifa was at the coup.

In some sad news, friend and former co-worker Ben Starkey died suddenly of a heart attack in his sleep yesterday. I was stunned as I just chatted online with him Saturday night.

Also, I dropped almost $300 on a gaming monitor yesterday (That's better than mine! - Javi) because I finally got MSFS 2020 running.

Well guess what - now the friggin' thing won't update and I can't fly right now.

Thanks, Macrohard!

(So - on to Star Wars Squadrons, I guess.)

Grumble, grunt, rant, rave...

I've seen some streams of Flight Sim '20.. it's phenomenal! So glad they brought it back.

Scoop, it was awesome. I had a Cessna up over my neighborhood when it was working - flew VFR and followed Main Street from Watertown Square into Waltham and back to 128.

Literally flew over my house and Bentley College.

Got another flight from Hanscom down your way over the JWU Harborside campus, and plunked down at Quonset State - but I haven't been able to fly since then. (last week now.)

Not sure why I can't update it - downloads start, then everything locks up.

Good reminder in today's blog why the impeachment trial of tRump must proceed, even if it's beyond Jan 20th.

I'd also like to point out that 2 very good blogs were posted on Sat and Sun, and are worth your time to read them.

BBC is reporting the US Capitol on "lockdown" due to some kind of direct threat.

There was an inaugural rehearsal in progress, but it's been suspended.

Nice.
